Halo |OT2| Hyper-Athletic Speed And Mass And Weight and Power

We will not be talking about ranking or progression in detail for a while. We are not using TruSkill in the same way Reach did. That's about all we can say for now.

Suffice it to say the game will match people appropriately - Tashi to Kyle, for example, and me to WalshOgreSkrillexTwinBlains.

Watching Formal play Halo 3 from earlier today. Struggling a bit with the sniper. Funny how different sniping and BRing is in Reach. Leading BR shots is still absolutely terrible.

Reach sniper is too easy; Bungie themselves described it as 'idiot proof'. Hoping Halo 4's sniper is at the difficulty level of Halo 3's.

CoD has a similar system to Reach, but rather than it being based on time played, its still based on kills etc. Thats a very individualistic system though and I think for Halo I would like it to be more team based. I.E. if your team wins you get a significant bonus, not the tiny bonus you get in reach.

COD's system is vastly superior to Reach because although it is quite based on individuals, at least it rewards you for playing well. The overwhelming majority of Reach's progression system just comes from completion points based on time played.

How did Bayonetta get away with that, then? Paid Namco? Also, what about games that load while the game is being played?
The patent is kind of limited and it would hard for the patent to hold up in court considering there were games that did it on the C64 before the patent was registered apparently.

I was hoping when they said 'idiot proof' that they were proofing it against idiots not for idiots.

And just because I'm in the middle of a stats grab, I feel like presenting the Sniper data again.

Code:
Halo 3 Sniper kills: 2583
Halo 3 Snipe medals: 1350
Halo 3 headshot rate: [U]52.26%[/U]

Halo Reach Sniper kills: 2702
Halo Reach Snipe medals: 1777
Halo Reach headshot rate: [U]65.77%[/U]

I'm all for bringing it back to Halo 3 levels of difficulty. I would have considered myself average with it Halo 3, but in Reach I feel I'm extremely proficient with it.

I never thought about looking at sniper stats like that. Pretty interesting.

Halo 3 Sniper kills: 9687
Halo 3 Snipe medals: 4639
Halo 3 headshot rate: 48%

Halo Reach Sniper kills: 4420
Halo Reach Snipe medals: 2856
Halo Reach headshot rate: 64%

I have about half of amount of kills in Reach as i do Halo 3, but still, that's a pretty significant bump in headshot rate.

I think that has a lot to do with hitscan vs bullet time. Headshots in general are more common in Halo 2 and Reach. Though it seems Reach and Halo 2 have a fair bit more magnetism.

In Halo 2 there was no reliable way to get Headshot data. The post game carnage report recorded how many headshots you landed, but it never gave a medal specifically for headshots. It wasn't like 3 either where you could subtract your snipe medals from your headshots to figure out how many BR/pistol/Carbine headshots you had. Halo 2 was great for getting stats started, but 3 and Reach upped the ante for it. The one thing I wish Halo 4 will do from Halo 2(that 3 and Reach didn't) is bring back the shots fired/shots missed/accuracy%.

The Pit, one of your favorite maps in the series, had attic spawns. But that's okay!

The difference being that I don't act as if Halo 3 was some perfect game and bring it up in every single one of my posts as what should be the inspiration for the next Halo.

Hey

Hey, Hydra

We're just speculating, bro

we're guessing, paco

we're just shooting the shit, as the kids say

Chill out, man

Hydra doesn't get paid to just sit around, he has to spin something.

Fanky you hinted that forerunner vision ( what the fuck at all the horrible names in Halo 4 lol) had limited functionality and won't be the ultimate tool. Will the other AAs be of very limited use like that too? If they were there but took a backseat to regular classic gameplay (shooting, throwing grenades, punching, etc), maybe they could work and they wouldn't feel so frustrating. Still sucks that once again people won't be spawning on even ground (rip you beautiful halo staple) and that no matter the implementation, frustration and the feeling of being robbed after certain deaths will still be there.

Also how fast is the regular speed of the player without sprinting? And the acceleration? (I'm not convinced by the vidoc gifs) Will there be changes to sprint to reduce the coward getaways? Why am I asking stuff if you just won't answer?

Why were they so adamant that the Chief was wearing a thruster and not a jetpack in the reveal trailer, if the jetpack was actually back in MP? Active Camo being back as a thing anyone can pick is a stunning thing as well, camo snipers are the worst. Juices secretly masturbated to that bit of info.

As long as the game doesn't have atrocious hit detection like that game did.

Your post earlier today asked why do fans who enjoyed 2 more than 3 feel that way. Being one of them, I said why. It didn't stop you from bringing in the "lulz rose colored glasses" line for the umpteenth time yet again later.

It probably is a thruster pack. Having played Halo with some of the GI editors they probably don't know the difference.

I completely agree. Don't forget guys camping around corners with camo and a shotgun.
The annoyance of potential invisible sprinting double melees was brought up here earlier. I don't suppose Frank can confirm or deny that you can use sprint+other AA's simultaneously?
Because seriously, that would be the worst.

Something I'd be ok with in terms of AA's:

You can spawn with them and upgrade/customize/etc them, but you have a finite supply of how many times/how much you can use it. In addition to the "random weapon spawns", make "AA power" refills spawn in random areas of the map. Or you could have static, predetermined areas where these refill stations lie, like the health stations in Reach.

This way, the AA's would exist, but not necessarily dominate how people play the game.

I really think you guys are worrying too much about AAs returning. I doubt Frankie and David have spent two years reading all the complaints about them to let them return unchanged. I'm sure they are more balanced now.

But dat's wut the X-Ray Vision is for ;)

That's what I'm expecting. It's just that I really can't think of how you can counter something like being invisible.

I didn't ask why they enjoyed 2 more than 3, I said I find it funny how people act like they were enormously different games mechanics wise. At the end of the day, 3 was as close to 2 as one could get without exactly copying the code of 2 and porting it over again. Yes the BR had a spread, yes the jump was slightly floatier, and you ran a little slower. We're talking very minimal changes though. The spread being the biggest, and it sucked, you can find a million posts from me in the Halo 3 OT saying as much. It's not like the Halo 2 BR was perfect, the host's BR absolutely dominated in that game, and BR/PP combo was more offensive to me than probably anything in this series ever. The PP would literally curve around structures/walls to track you.

If we're talking umpteenth times of someone saying something, if I had a dollar for every time I've seen you post how Relic, Terminal, & Zanzibar were the series peaks in map design, I'd be a millionaire.

It's just hilarious to me that the flaws of 2 are completely over looked by most people in here who spout it as the gift from the gods.

People spawning with no AA juice and having to fight for it like power weapons, I think I would dig that a million more than the current unlimited AA bonanza for everyone the entire match. I'm really hoping 343i surprises in the podcast with something like this. AAs returning by 343i's hand as they are in Reach is just perplexing. If you say "Don't worry", you better have a good reason to.

vhfive where's the picture of you wearing the "Halogaf" shirt?

I'm different!

Halo Reach
Sniper Kills: 3978
Headshots: 1324
Ratio: 33%

Halo 3
Sniper kills: 7282
Sniper headshots: 3327
Ratio: 46%

where do you find these stats? (or are you just calculating them manually)?

anyway, im running about 50% for each, but i find it is easier to get headshots in reach, but easier to noscope in 3.

I used to do that, but then I felt cheap doing it. It's too good.
Besides, good snipers don't get spotted
By "used to" you mean the other day? You were totally abusing that shit on Hemo the other day. :p

That was you, right?

Did they add killcam or final kill cam?
I would seriously love both, but if it had to be one, please make it final kill cam.

Eh, I wouldn't doubt if the Jetpack operates more of a jump pack compared to its iteration in Reach.. GI's coverage was very lacking in details and context, it was filled with one hell of a lotta fluff. Guess thats what their website is for? Even so, this wasn't their best coverage of a game IMO.
