I searched and didn't see a thread about it, but this is my first OP so forgive me if there is.

I've probably seen 16-17 of them, and there is no doubt in my mind that On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best of them all. This has a lot to do with George Lazenby being my favorite 007 actor. Sean Connery and Roger Moore were both fine, but Lazenby acts much more like the Bond from the books IMO. There's not as much wisecracking and antics; he is a serious man doing a serious job. Pierce Brosnan is a good runner-up, but that is an entirely different era.

On a separate subject, Tom Jones' Thunderball is my favorite of the theme songs.

I agree wholeheartedly On Her Majesty's Secret Service is my favourite too. People overlook this movie too much.

I think twine sucked, it's just die another day was way over the top. I think tomorrow never dies is better than twine, and tomorrow never dies plot is pretty ridiculous. Also Denise Richards doesn't make for a convincing nuclear physicist.

"I thought Christmas comes only once a year" lol

Tomorrow Never Dies has a few neat moments. Like when Bond drives his car sitting in its backseat by using his iphone. I also liked Elliot Carver as a villain. So cheesy but that's exactly how I pciture Robert Murdoch, standing in front of massive screens manipulating the news stories of the day.

Elliot Carver: Mr. Jones, are we ready to release our new software?
Jones: Yes, sir. As requested, it's full of bugs, which means people will be forced to upgrade for years.
Elliot Carver: Outstanding.

Yea, that bit was awesome.

I'm also a Street Fighter fan. I'm starting to see some tiers here, lol. Casino Royale, Goldfinger, and Goldeneye are God tier, i feel most would agree.
definitely top tier. If theres a God tier, I'm betting it'd be one of those but replace goldfinger for From Russia with Love.

What is so good about Casino Royale? i thought it was quite good but Craig always looked so damn mopey...

Craig's Bond is a cold bastard, and he portrays it well, but that's ultimately what makes the romance poignant. And it's probably the flat out best action movie that's been done within PG-13 constraints.

Fair point, i never really thought about it like that.. I'm still a little iffy but i do totally agree that for its rating some awesome shit went down :D

Guess I'm the only one who loves the campiness of Moonraker eh?

I also prefer Roger Moore as Bond though, so that puts me in a WHOLE different camp.

Diamonds are Forever and Live and Let Die. I really liked the ones with that Southern Sheriff.

Sheriff J.W. Pepper: There's that son of a bitch. I got him.
[to Bond]
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: What are you? Some kinda doomsday machine boy? Well WE got a cage strong enough to hold an animal like you here!
Felix Leiter: Captain, would you enlighten the Sheriff please?
State Trooper: Yessir. J.W., let me have a word with ya. J.W., now this fellow's from London England. He's a Englishman workin' in cooperation with our boys, a sorta... secret agent.
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: Secret AGENT? On WHOSE side?

I think that Lazenby had the potential to be a better Bond than Connery. He was definitely better from a physical/combat standpoint.

Regarding Die Another Day, I thought that ice palace thing was cool.

But that airplane ending... wow. That was just... god... it was theater-leaving worthy. If it wasn't the end, I would have walked out.

I didn't much care for Halle Berry in it either. Which was weird because I used to think she was attractive before that movie.

I think the best ones are already mentioned. CR, FRWL, OHMSS, Goldfinger, etc.

Shout outs to Tomorrow Never Dies. That movie KNEW it was going to be a cartoon and super campy, so they picked a villain that out-did anything seen in the Roger Moore era while still managing to have some dark moments thrown in.

I do like parts of Moonraker (the fight with the anaconda was hilarious), but the way they turned Jaws into a joke was really a mistake.

Yeah, his fight scenes were awesome. I think it really speaks to his character that he chose to do just one film too, he could have been a household name if he had continued.

Who?

Those were like the lost years of Bond. Bond got replaced by a cheap Miami Vice franchise until PB came along.

Pshhh....Dalton is a boss, plus he was vengeful Bond before Craig. Only guy to do an R-rated Bond. I think Goldeneye may be better than both Daltons films, but if I'd rather watch both of Daltons movies than any combination of Brosnans movies, maybe it's nostalgia.

I like Moore but it got a bit too campy. Live and Let Die and the Man with the Golden Gun were great. But it started to get out of control with campiness after that.

Surprised no Solo in this thread yet.. or is he banned again?

Anyhow, my favorite tends to alternate, but think it is usually From Russia with Love, Licensed to Kill and On Her Majesty's Secret Service in my head

Goldfinger is boring as fuck after the first half hour or so.

I'd probably go with Goldeneye.

I wasn't a huge fan of Casino Royale. That sequence of hands would never happen. It ruined the movie for me.

Re: Dalton - I thought Living Daylights was a perfectly good installment. License to Kill was a catastrophe though.

I have a special place in my hearth for The Spy Who Loved Me, The Man With the Golden Gun and Tomorrow Never Dies....I don't expect many to agree. I like the campier stuff. Whatever.

Definitely need to see FRWL again (apparently), as I really don't remember much of it.

I do agree the campiness did get out of hand, it was parodied pretty well to with the In Like Flint series.

Moore just oozed charm to me though, he really took the suaveness to a new level, and then as you mention, eventually just turned it into campiness.

Casino Royale, followed by FRWL.

I have a personal soft spot for The Living Daylights.

Edit: My one problem with Casino Royale is how much that movie beats the most basic rules of poker over your head repeatedly. I also still find security footage on Blu-ray in 2006 pretty funny.

I'm so happy so see all the GoldenEye love. I'm sure it is a bit N64 tainted but I'll take it. It really was the seminal reboot of the Bond franchise in the modern era. Even PB could never match it in later films (although those later scripts were not as good so he didn't have much chance).

Roger Moore is my favorite Bond, but then again, that's what I grew up with, I saw all his movies in the theater (except the first, Live & Let Die, too young).

Dalton is, without a doubt, sexy as hell but I just didn't care for him as Bond. Far too angry and violent, and not nearly as smooth as Connery.

I think it was the scripts for his movies, they were much more serious than the Roger Moore ones, yet as his performance in Flash Gordon showed, Dalton was more that kind of actor, rather than the gritty grim angsty type.

If I was to be completely honest (and I seldom is, I usually go with Goldfinger or Live and Let Die) I would have to say The Man with The Golden Gun.

Yeah it's silly.
But silly James Bond is best James Bond.

It got one of the best songs ever, a midget, Christopher Lee, chicks karate, and did I mention a midget?

Casino Royale > FRWL > Dr. No > Quantum of Solace

There's a few more good ones, then they generally get a little bit silly.

How do so many people not know about the Peter Sellers 60s Bond?!

For me it would be either Goldfinger or Goldeneye, although Casino Royale and A View to a Kill are right up there.
