I rather like the idea of having an FPS/RTS/MMO hybrid, where the TV is you in FPS mode, doing quests and gathering materials, and the touch screen is your base that you build while you're out and you have to defend it from other players. You can build at any time, as long as you have resources.

Very cool. I'd also like to see some multiplayer coop version of this. Maybe one player is playing the overall strategist/RTS player, and the other player(s) on the main screen are actually assisting with the orders.

So for instance the Subscreen user might want to assault an enemy stronghold, so the Wii Remote player ((s) in split screen) could move with the AI squad to assist. Or just wander off and do their own thing in FPS mode but it would be better when they worked together or else you might find yourself alone.

In fact, thinking about this, there's a shit tonne of games that could work with this asynchronous gameplay. Will allow tried and true genres to get a bit of a freshen up!

Would be a great fit for a battalion wars sequal.

I understand and I appreciate the irony. But, I still don't enjoy it.

That's cool. I don't really disagree with you either. Watching clips of it on YouTube these days can be pretty cringe worthy.

But it's bones as a game were solid. I'd love to see a similar concept, with writing done by someone other than the game designer, on Wii U. I dunno if Nintendo would ever go for it again though.

I played Conker for the first time this year and thought the dialogue was pretty funny.

Very dry English humor. And the delivery of some of those lines were just hilarious.

Who is this guy talking about? Ideaman? Did he ever post here?

I dunno who he's talking about but this dude was banned for trolling one of the Vita launch threads. IIRC for some reason he somehow got caught up trying to defend the 3DS launch lineup which of course people called him out on and then he got mad and started saying dumb things and slamming Vita fans, saying they're 'on drugs' ect. He now seems to solely use YouTube to "talk" to Neogaf.

The thing about Conker is that it was technically genius.

I can't believe how many hundreds of lines of dialogue they were able to cram into a single cartridge. And the graphics were really well done and the game didn't even need the expansion pack to pull off the graphics.

And the parodies of different movies like Saving Private Ryan, Reservoir Dogs, The Terminator, The Matrix, Dracula, A Clockwork Orange, and Alien were all awesome.

People can say what they want about Rare, but that game was an amazing way to end the N64 era.

The multiplayer was brilliant too.

Where the hell did this iTunes on the Wii-U shit come from? And nobody would give a fuck about playing music through it. The only real advantage would bet he video content, and in that capacity it would be the same as the PSN's video store, the Zune Store, Vudu, CinemaNow, etc. Come to think of it, it would possibly make more sense on the 3DS since iBooks and the music would make more sense on that platform.

Even thinking Apple would do it though is kind of insane. Why isn't iTunes on the 360 or PS3 yet? Plus, as someone else already said, Apple probably already has their own plans for the living room. The Apple TV is just the firs step. They'll either release a new generation of that box or a Television set. There's no reason for Apple to ally with another hardware manufacturer.

First bolded point: iTunes content is not on Sony or MS systems because Sony and Microsoft are directly competing with Apple with their own content delivery services and would rather push their own services than someone else's for obvious reasons. Nintendo doesn't have that kind of investment that competes with them. Thought that point was FAIRLY obvious.

Second bolded point: If there's anything more ridiculous than iTunes on a Nintendo console, it's Apple making a fucking TELEVISION. Also, Apple TV is now in its 3rd iteration, so to call it a "start" is a bit of a lie, since they've been at it since 2007. JUST SAYIN'. If you were to bet money on Apple doing their own thing, bet on them making set-top boxes that operate IPTV through cable providers, but that isn't happening until cable providers get their shit together regarding IPTV.

What? I thought this was the next big Apple thing.

Yeah, cuz Apple LOVES throwing its money into a giant hole and then setting it on fire. Sounds just like them, doesn't it?

The TV retail market is so volatile, with upgrade cycles that are longer than CONSOLES, with obscene production and shipping costs, would require Apple to double the size of its stores to accommodate larger stock rooms, would need to set up home delivery services at its stores, would be price-gouged for TV display panels from vendors to keep Apple from competing in THEIR retail market.....

There's a reason that there's only 2 manufacturers making money in the TV market and why Sony is phasing themselves out of it.

I'm interested.... who?
I'm guessing one of them is Samsung

If you upload images in the the 3DS 3d image format do they show up in post in 3D when using the 3DS browser?

Pretty sure. That's what http://www.3ds-screenshot.com/ is for.

The sucky thing is that my 3D phone uses the other 3D jpeg format (one is basically two jpeg files concatenated together, and the other is the two pictures side-by-side. Which sucks, because it means I can't view 3DS-generated images, and a 3DS can't view pictures I take on my 3D camera. Raaargh!

Btw, I accidentally had a life today and am a bit behind on geekery. Any interesting news? I skimmed through, but all I could find is Square Enix sharing a character with Nintendo
Warning! Challenger Approaching!
and something about the Wii U being more powerful than previous Nintendo consoles, which is just silly.

Prediction time:
$299.
October Japan launch. US/Europe/rest of world-November.
Zelda-launch title
Nintendo Universe-Nintendo mmo announced/revealed
Nintendo HD line announced/shown.
Half Life 3
Borderlands 2
Duke Nukem Forever Special Edition
Sonic

I've reeled in my expectations and suspect we will not see
any games that will significantly look better then current gen.
This does not mean it wil be weaker/underpowered, just that
the early launch titles will not tap into what the system can do.
As the case with most home console launches. :)

LG is the other. Basically, Korea PWNZ the TV market now.

Havent Vizio (US) been the number one selling brand in the US by far for the past several years?

They havent been around in the market very long and shows that a new entry isnt impossible.

Apple probably wont get within a football field of their prices though

for some reason I never trusted LG as a brand that reflects quality
I had bad experiences with LG products in the past... nice to see they're doing fine
Always liked Panasonic tho :)

All prediction lists should include a 5th Gen Pokemon Battle Simulator (like Stadium, Colosseum, XD).

The best thing about Stadium was Dodrio Gameboy Tower. I'm trying to 100% Stadium 2 right now so I can play GSC at 4x speed.

There's no incentive for me to play Colosseum, XD, or any future Pokemon battle sims =(

Next gen transfer pak, drop the bomb Nintendo!

Imagine, 3DS revision/6th Gen carts that allow communication with the NFC capabilities of the Wii U. Download Pokemon instantly!

And buy figurines (4.99) to use in-game! Game comes with free 'random' figure. Can be used in Gen 6 games or the battle sim - transfer between the two to upgrade your character!

Wow. Dude's made quite a few videos talking to NeoGAF. I've heard of people doing this, but I don't think I've ever seen it done to this extent. Impressive.

I know this is OT, but what would you all recommend I get from Club Nintendo? 640 coins at the moment.

(it's going to be an awesome feeling when I register my Wii U and it's vast library of games)

Yeah, I've been watching them for about half an hour now, alternating with AVGN when it gets too meh.

If we were to ever get Half Life 3, I'd love to see 1 & 2 brought over as well someday.

And a Nintendo Universe MMO? Third parties would cry and say "we told you so!" But if ever done and done well, I'd be all over that!

This. Captain Rainbow was the new Conker's Bad Fur Day, so of course it never left Japan.

Fat Little Mac, for example.

Difference was (from what I've heard from friends who imported the game), was that Conker was fun, Captain Rainbow was just a very weird bad game.

If available, go with the posters. The Zelda ones especially are quite nice - very suitable for framing. I ordered several sets of each and have been keeping them in their tubes for when we finally own a home.

I also like the DS pouch very much; I have the blue one, and it's been quite handy for traveling. I'm very tempted to grab the red one for my custom-made GBA SP.

I'm also holding-off on about 500 points' worth of registrations right now so that I can hit Platinum Status easily again. With Launch Day purchases, that should be quite easy. I hope they find a good way to integrate one's Club Nintendo acount with whatever online system they concoct.

I'll always mentally associate LG with air conditioners, washing machines, and kimchi refrigerators, never TVs, because those are the only products of theirs I saw while growing up :p

There was actually a Pokemon Trading Figure Game that died a quick death. Imagine something like that, but with NFC and tied with the mainstream 3DS game at the time.

8 year old me would have shit bricks and bought every single one.

Real missed opportunity for Nintendo if they pass this up.

Quote from the Ars article linked above. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/...les-looking-so-weak-lately-blame-nintendo.ars

"Ten years ago, Nintendo largely catered to kids and Nintendo fanboys," Creutz said. "There was about a five year period they could expand their market beyond that, and now I think they're back back to the kids and Nintendo fanboys again. It's not a bad market but it's not a market that's going to grow enormously."

Didn't the Wii just expand the gaming market a lot? Or even the DS?

On what basis? There is zero basis to expect them at launch. Pikmin may be a launch window title but expecting anything at launch is like playing the lottery.
One thing is that Nintendo usually has pretty good launch window lineups (~3 months from launch) for their home consoles. Previously in the US:

Super NES
-Super Mario World
-F-Zero
-Pilotwings
-Sim City

Nintendo 64
-Super Mario 64
-Pilotwings 64
-Wave Race 64
-Killer Instinct Gold
-Cruis'n USA

GameCube
-Luigi's Mansion
-Wave Race: Blue Storm
-Pikmin
-Super Smash Bros. Melee
-NBA Courtside 2002

Wii
-Wii Sports
-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-Excite Truck
-Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
-Wii Play
-TONS of Virtual Console games

I think the problem is a lot of that market has moved on to mobile.

The nice thing though is that consumers are never set in stone (though they can certainly become entrenched for long periods of time). The Wii showed us that it's possible for any compelling product to break into that delicious mainstream market regardless of the product's origin, just as the PS3 showed us that brand pedigree alone wont move units if its not well suited for the market.

Ah! Thanks for the recomendations. My girlfriend already got the posters, and since I'm moving in with her next year I don't think I'll need to get my own. :p But the pouch looks nice... I'm probably going to grab the Hanafuda cards, after thinking about it.

Hope they stick some damn figurines up there someday. My wishlist:

Red Pikmin (hell, all the colours)
Paper Mario
Isaac + djinni
Deku scrub
Yoshi and Baby Mario

I know I always bring up the figurines. I never had these things as a child though. :p

Oh, I forgot about the PTFG.
I expect something like this to make a return with the 5th Gen Sim/RPG.
I'm, personally, expecting it to be a launch title, but it may be delayed. Probably won't be very pretty since it's a Pokemon spin-off that started life on Wii, but whatever.

Holy shit, Speculation Thread 4? Yall are some prolific speculators.

About 13.4% of posts in the last three threads have been pointless comments about the amount of posts being made, or the speed of posting, however, so it's not like it's all 'our' fault.
