Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

Just realized this, but we're all bashing our beloved Halo for copying aspects from CoD...

But two of CoD's newest maps are called "Sanctuary" and "Foundation"... they want to be as good as our Halo 2

Soon CoD will start playing like Halo, and Halo will be just like CoD. The world will never be the same.

My 101 Perfections would give me dat max rank in a heart beat.
And my zero perfections will match me up with mouthbreathers just like me!

"We want you to feel like a super soldier, with the way he moves, sprints, etc."

Ok, so why is this super soldier being effected by recoil on a battle rifle?

A super soldier who is not even subject to the laws of gravity given that the whole MP experience exists in a hologram simulation thing on a spaceship.

Gimping the BR to try to protect garbage kids is so lame.

The "Spartans should be able to run," line says hi.

Mix between lore and gameplay balance. Sounds fine by me.

Doesn't really sound that gimped. Sounds like a gun. Heck, maybe we should wait to see it first. /crazynotion.

Listen man, Chief can survive falls from outer space, jump higher than Michael Jordan on crack, but he runs slower than a peg leg pirate.

It's time this combat...evolved.

I'd prefer something along these lines:

It was since they 343 felt the lower skilled players couldn't handle it.

Uh, they didn't say "lower-skilled", they said less-experienced or "newer". Again, it's knowledge, not skill. Skill is co-ordination with teammates, and execution in an encounter. Not knowing where or when a power weapon will spawn.

I have a question about insta-spawn. In the time that is takes to insta-spawn vs the time until a normal spawn (You don't hit X to spawn) does your spawn location change based on what's happening in the game during those ~5 seconds. What I'm getting at is that can I potentially choose where I spawn just based on where my teammates are dying?

Man, I must be the only person that grabbed a power weapon when it was there, and didn't have any idea of timing. I must have done it wrong.

I would just casually run by, and if a rocket launcher had spawned I'd grab it and use it.

I was not really worried about the MP. The Sparkast made me a bit nervous about the weapon spawn. Otherwise it hyped me a lot for the Spartan Ops mode.

I hope the E3 presentation focus on ingame stuff of the first mission and show the press the Spartan Ops mode. I do not want to find out how the new enemy is before Nov. 6.

Can I get my legendary with a four foot plastic glow in the dark promethean. Thanks. And a making of DVD. And a t- shirt.

Look, experience is worth something when competing in these games: knowing how to move around a map, developing muscle memory, etc.. All 343 Industries is doing is taking one of the cheaper bits of knowledge experienced players have over newer players. It's not degrading the value of player and team skill in an encounter, it's taking away a freebie that you probably didn't need in the first place.

Haven't gotten a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but I'm wondering if they're gimping the individual player so some BK's can play GI Joe with the AR.

I agree with others on not being sold on the whole "weapons drop" idea. I see it as ordinance weapons are currently in Reach Firefight. There are set spawn locations that are possible areas for spawning.

When they do spawn EVERYONE knows exactly where it's at and when. Taking away the point of knowing the maps and best routes to take and when to start heading over to the weapon spawn :/

I hope you can just shut it off all-together though.

OK, after listening I am now fully on board with Spartan Ops. And reading between the lines, as well as taking literal words literally, I'm getting a sense of how it all fits together into a cohesive whole, and that's nothing short of fuck-awesome.

All of this sounds similar to a far more ambitious and story driven P.E.C. system from Rainbow Six Vegas 2, something I've long wanted to see developed further.

I also like how you can "grind" your unlockables in the other game modes (at least in Spartan Ops) and use those unlocks in the other multiplayer modes, as well as vice versa.

The main question for me now is really story based - what the relationship is exactly between our customized Spartan and the Master Chief. But I'm fine with finding that out when I settle into the game proper.

PS - Assault Rifle is a best eh? Love it.

Both of which help you become a better player.
Keeping the pure mechanics based skill gap while lowering the knowledge gap sounds like nothing but a positive.

Knowledge makes you a better player (more skilled).

Shit I forgot about the Podcast logo voting. If you've got any, I'll take them until the end of the hour. 6pm the voting will open and I'll post what I have so far.

I'm not at a computer with Photoshop, can someone take Devo's thread banner slap some mics and add "radio" underneath "HaloGAF"?

Fuck I'm too busy today to follow the news like I'd like!!! AAARGGHH

hi5 to my Nov6 bros!! Have the prizes being distributed yet?

Really liking what I'm reading on these summaries about Sprint getaways and double melees being nerfed!! And confirmation of faster default speed than Reach and higher jumps! Anything mentioned about acceleration yet?

Also liked the bit about learning lessons from Reach AAs and that they're all different now.

BR being pwned by DMR across map makes sad. Will BTB open spaces be ruined again by the DMR? And having to play a bunch to even unlock them too.. wtf

The RvB video was terribad. Not liking how the spartans looked there, at all. Probably because of the rubber undersuits being painted the same color as the armor. Liked that the armors were shiny and popped out of the screen like Halo 3.

Knowledge makes you a better player (more skilled).

It's an aspect, and one that still requires skill be applied at the movement/encounter level - but if I set up a game where the secondary weapon is Rocket Launcher, unbeknownst to the rest of the team members, guess who usually gets the first kill? Why did I use that example? BECAUSE I OFTEN DO THIS.

*sigh*

Surely you can see the difference between a more deeply-developed skill based on experience, (like being able to navigate around a map without looking in the direction you are moving), and a surface-level skill (like "I know where the Rockets spawn on this particular map and they don't--*tee-hee*)?

Seriously, if you're a good player, this is a trivial thing to fight over.

Or maybe an hour or two.

Long time.

They should obviously just come out and say how long it takes to primary the BR/DMR once you start the game, because I'm imagining it to be laughably short.

See, Over, Frankie agrees with me...I think.

1. One of the reasons for this "random weapon spawn" is to take away the advantage of knowing the layout before the map starts, but honestly, how is that a big problem? Maybe a couple weeks into the game but after that players know the maps. Still not sold on the idea, and what about Needlers and plasma pistols? Where do they fit into everything? Still not sold.
2. Weapon drops can kill you? :/
3. Slowdown mechanic for shooting at sprinters. Thank you!
4. Certain maps are tailored to certain objective gametypes but can support all. This is very good news.
5. DMR has a longer range than the BR. This better not mean that it has 3x scope. Please no 3x scope...
6. Forerunner vision doesn't sound that bad.
7. More rock, paper, scissors. Le sigh.
8. Not convinced about AAs with loadouts and stuff.
9. About instant respawn: I like the fact that I can have the time to select a different loadout (Reach doesn't give you that option), but nothing in the podcast sold me on the idea either.

Overall disappointing. All the information release so far definitely points the multiplayer in a direction that I don't like nor, so far, have been sold on. I need to see some videos or something.

There's always campaign. Come on, Campaign, be amazing...

Kinda sounds like you want Halo 2 back, which is fine.
Just because someone has a problem with all the changes doesn't mean that person wants a certain game back. I'm getting kind of tired of these implications. There's a better way to implement AAs and progression system compared to what 343i is doing now. Make AAs pick up with a progression system to be able to use them when you get to them in the game. I'd much rather see that.
