The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Does anyone have any tips? The single "a"s and "I"s are easy enough, and I usually try to build on 2 and 3 letter words from there.

I wrote a very basic beginner's guide on another forum. It's worth reading through the rest of the thread a bit too because there's a lot of hints for various puzzles that might also apply to puzzles you're stuck on. Be sliiiightly wary of spoilers, but all my posts in there are definitely safe as are most others.

This is right up there with my favourite stuff on iOS. It's the only game I play every single day without fail, and it's always the last thing I do before I head off to sleep at night

What's the difference Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies and Call of Duty: Zombies? The later is on sale for $1.99

Also one for SmokeyDave, Trainz Simulator is on sale for 99cents on iPad.

Regular Zombies has Nacht der Untoten, Shi No Numa, Verruckt, and Der Reise. Black Ops Zombies has Kino der Toten, Ascension, and Dead Ops Arcade.

Saw Enscripted praised a few pages back. I'd never heard of it, but I checked it out and had to have it. I've always wanted to do those cryptograms in the newspaper, but have never had the patience to do it with pencil.

For those not in the know, Enscripted ($.99) is a cipher word puzzler. Each puzzle is a quote from a movie, and that movie's title, which the player must solve by swapping letters until the quote finally makes sense. You get a new puzzle everyday for a year, and the old ones stick around too, so you can bounce around between multiple puzzles if you get stuck one.

I just bought this game, and it's kind of annoying. I beat the eight provided puzzles in twenty minutes and now I have to wait until tomorrow to get a single new one? What happened to the months of puzzles that have already gone by since the app was released? It's fun but the way it parcels out puzzles is bullshit.

Confused...why does this have Gamecenter support...you get achievements for viewing stuff?

I actually deleted this app-but they do have quizes that you can take-and the GameCenter achievements are tied to those quizes and their categories. They appear to be fan-made, I believe though-so a lot of the time the quizes are dumb and the answers aren't even correct...

January 30th has its own puzzle. You'll get it on January 30th. It's just that you get it next year where I got it this year. That's what happens to the months that have gone by.

Personally I like the one a day thing, I like that I've got something to do every day with it rather than smashing through fifty at once and getting sick of it. If you're that impatient you can just set your clock forward and do more.

I finished playing Lost Winds this evening and I can definitely say it's worth the 69p I paid for it. It was short but sweet, took me about 4 hours I guess. It's a really gorgeous metroidvania game and it's simplicity is made up for by it's charm in most places. It's easily the best looking platformer I've played on the iPad, the art style was quite lovely.

The controls were weird to begin with, since for the most part you control the wind rather than the main character. It's clumsy to start with but is good when you get used to it. The only thing that really annoyed me was having to move rocks with the wind and getting caught up in it, leading to a fair amount of frustration. But it passes and you get used to it. When you get the cape in the last section of the game it really opens up though and travelling becomes really fun rather than a chore. I wish the end sequence was a bit longer really, the possibilities of flying around with the cape were never really explored to their fullest.

But all said it was really fun and I'm looking forward to the next one.

I guess a Dungeon Raid iPad version is never happening? It seems to have been out for way too long now, I guess if an iPad version was going to be made it would have been by now.

Sometimes following this topic regularly pays off with a good laugh - thanks for that!

Anyone know of a game that uses the camera to create a game world/environments?

Just a random thought; the iPad has keyboard support, has anyone ever made a keyboard only game? I guess it wouldn't get through submission at the moment but it would be interesting if apple allowed it, there would be potential for a lot of pc ports. Will probably never happen.

Someday SEGA will port over Typing of the Dead, someday.

Seriously though I am surprised. I would have sworn a typing game to teach kids would have been made by now, a Mavis Beacon typing at least.

Was it worth it?

edit: beat like a Vita

So, I've been on vacation out of the country for the last week. Because of the mobile switch I can't just jump to my last read post. Any good releases come out this week?

But guise!! I said it wos worth it in the first sentence! :p

I would say it's not only worth the pennies but also worth the time I spent on it :)

Can't say the same for Crow though. I just finished it twice in a row, finishing up the Hard run that I had trapped myself into and then play the game on 'normal'. Normal was way better and much more fun, especially in the ending section, but I felt the game itself was really tedious, and the story, such that it was, was laughable. The game promises MULTIPLE ENDINGS!! but all you get is a flyover of some levels, and the monsters are either thre or they're not. I had no idea why I was doing what I was doing and the payoff was not nearly worth the journey to get there. Most disappointed.

I bought Crow at full price because of that fucking Kotaku article. I played the first level, thought "well, this isn't very good at all" and deleted it.

Is Real Racing 2 actually any good or is it just another pretty face?

That was your own fault. ;)
You'll be impressed with how much content is in RR2. The game was gorgeous when it came out, but it's not as uniquely beautiful anymore. The game controls well, but don't expect GT.

In short, if you're looking for a robust sim racer for your phone/iPad, do it.

What? It is easily still one of the best looking games on ios. I'd be pretty shocked if someone wasn't impressed by it.

I kind of like the way this looks. Might get at $.99.

Yeah, at most. I went ahead and tried it. Not necessary sorry I did because the art is really quite beautiful. It actually has many layers of parallax art like Muramasa, and the game is quite fun. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer much variety in terms of gameplay, and there are only three songs/levels. It says nine, but it's really only three, each with three levels of difficulty. It's a cool game, but kind of a rip-off at $2. Then again, it's still more than what you typically get from a $2 game on the eShop.

It's been the best sim racer on the iPhone for at least a good three or four years.

Its pretty amazing what they did.

Went from games like word fu and rolando to real racing...
