So are we expecting this game to contain characters from first and second party titles only, like Nathan Drake, Kratos, Sweet Tooth, ect. or also from third party games that have been on the PS at some point, like Dante, Final Fantasy characters, etc. I really hope its the ladder or else I just can't see my self getting excited for this, Sony's stuff just wouldn't make very interesting fighting game characters imo.
I expect it will mostly be Sony characters with third party guests like Brawl if we're lucky. I would also like the ladder, it could be a good melting pot of major characters if the gameplay is done right.
But I would be okay with an all Sony cast, they have a good amount of properties to draw from. If that's the case maybe they'll get guest characters for a sequel if it does well enough.

I would prefer 3D movement rather than a 2D plane.
But either way, it could be very cool. I love smash bros and I'll love this.

I've never seen one been put on streams or allocated precious tournament brackets in place of the other major fighters on a regular basis in the last 3-4 years. Then again smash was some time ago.
I don't see this having long legs in terms of events and tournaments.

I think they actually might, but the demise of whoopee camp might have put everything into disarray there. Either that or I'm misremembering stuff.
Good list. Well, except maybe Crash and Spyro. I used to absolutely love them during the PS1 days, but they probably be like their current incarnations instead (yuck). I think their spots should be given to other 3rd parties like a Final Fantasy rep (Cloud/Lightning), Scorpion (Mortal Kombat), or Kazuma (Yakuza).

I'm not 100% on this, but I think I looked it up sometime last year, and the Tomba IP was owned by some other company. I might be wrong though. Either way, I hope Sony gets going and puts up the Tomba games on PSN soon.

This blog post from last year mentions Tombi as one of the games going through the clearance process for emulation. Something might have stopped it from getting through since it's been so long and we haven't heard anything about it.

Would kinda like to see Specter and or Forty-Five as DLC to represent Socom.
Though with Drake/Elena, Snake(if he shows up) and hopefully Gabe Logan, that would probably be too many gun users.

There's no excuse for him not to be in there. I doubt that there would be much resistance from Sega considering that the is exclusive to Sony platforms.

But for a game like this, you must be able to jump, have more than just one kind of attack. Specials, etc.

Power Stone would be the best direction that they could go in. It would separate it from Smash Bros while still allowing it to have accessibility. I'm actually surprised that no one has even tried to make a new Power Stone-style game given the rebirth of fighting games in this generation.

that name is just too long and "precise". another thing is, that the appealing of the word battle is brutal or shows sth. competitive. i would name this sort of games like nintendo do. smash is simple and smashing stuff makes fun and on the other hand a battle is hard and tough. the title should contain words like crunch, shatter, crash, dash, break , etc. instead of fight or battle.
Power stone-style gameplay would definitely work, but i'm pretty sure the rumors said that the game is a 2D-plane fighter.
