But, the important question is... will Kevin Butler be in this game? We all know he should be in it.

A great, well founded post but too long to quote

While I agree with you 100%, I think the main target of this game is to reach Sony fans, who want to play it casually with friends. I don't think they're going to the competitive side of things.

I may be wrong, but that interview and gameplay videos gave me 0 competitive hints.

I think MS bought twisted pixel. I may have dreamed that though.

Personally I think it would have been more interesting if they made this a little big planet branded game, little big fighter or something, and have all the characters sack boy versions of themselves, probably in the minority on that one though.

I read then forgot if he was talking about Smash only so started again, tried to rush through because it didn't seem like much PSAS talk. Didn't want to read a Smash vs SF/2d fighter argument.

"- The game discourages tactical evasion. The player that does not participate head on is at a distinct disadvantage because they are less likely to score points. This makes the game considerably less interesting because it narrows the different types of play styles that are viable. It forces players to engage opponents similarly to what you would expect to see in a flat 2D fighter, which is a damn shame. "

Don't a lot of the characters have ranged stuff, mines, and more? Parappa was the only one mentioned to need to be close up, and he even has his boombox if he is too far away or he can use it tactically to lure people in and stun them with the boombox's sound waves.

Sly Cooper is evasive, he can sneak, teleport, and float/jump high well all while raining down missiles and getting his crew to do more stuff.

Yeah, like I said in that very paragraph, I think evasion will still be a part of All Stars, just that I think it will be significantly de-emphasized.

Anywho, I know it's a huge wall of text and I don't fault anyone for being too lazy to read it all. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

Who the fuck let these juniors in?

Beats me. I know these jokers are a minority but GAF could use a moratorium on accepting juniors until they actually l2r another member's post rather than post a tumblr gif, meme, etc.

Anyway, was there a timeline given for development? A target date? Or will we likely get all the info at E3?

Reading is hard, right guys?

Nope not at all. But I'll be frank here and I mean no disrespect to anyone. All I get from most of the posts posted above are

1. It has a different gameplay style than SSB. A poster loves SSB style. Anything that deviates from it worries them
2. People are focusing on one aspect or the other and are ignoring everything else. This ranges from sony haz no memorable characterz and ignoring millions who grew up with PS to one aspect of gameplay like combos and actually ignoring character specific moves such as Parappa's boombox move.

Wall of text or no wall of text. It's the same thing over and over again. People just seem to not be capable of accepting others have different expectations from games.

I'm a bit disappointed in GAF and even in this thread because it was initially filled with baseless hate and whining and now it's filled with clashes of gaming philosophy. I wish we could talk more about the game itself for a change without being sidetracked.

Can we stop talking about SB now. The enjoyment of that game all comes down to personal taste. And this game and the enjoyment of its characters all comes down to personal taste. If you dont like Sony characters then this probably wont be the game for you.

Well some jokers should realize those who post most images and gifs are the members.

The Buzz questions are awesome, watching them wait on the platform they think are the correct answer then be hit off just before it finishes, getting buzzed out. This is going to provide a lot of laughs.

What do you get for answering the questions correctly again? AP? And is there a penalty?

I've heard the rumors about this for a while, but haven't followed it very closely as I'm not into Super Smash Bros. or games like it. Just looking at the videos, though it is painfully obvious that it's a Super Smash Bros. clone.

It might be a good clone. It might even be a superlative clone. But unless something changes, it's always going to have the "clone" stigma as a dark cloud hovering over it.

Regarding the game itself and its very existence, I've got mixed feelings about this. Like I said, I'm not a Super Smash Bros. enthusiast, so the initial hook isn't there for me. Regardless of the existence of Super Smash Bros., though, on its own the game doesn't look very appealing. I can't grasp what the appeal would be as either a fighting game or a pseudo-platform game. I do like the idea of "all my favorite PlayStation characters" in a single game, but other games have already offered that, most notably LittleBigPlanet.

People have mentioned Crash Team Racing as being derivative of Super Mario Kart. The difference is that there have been other racing games with powerups/weapons before CTK (and even before SMK), and the premise of the game on its own is easy to grasp without having to make direct comparisons with SMK. This game doesn't seem to have that distinction--I have a difficult time summarizing the concept without being forced to mention "Super Smash Bros." somewhere along the way.

On the other hand, it's SSB, on a PlayStation platform. Some people have been pining for such a game for a while, so I suppose it's good that Sony delivered something to satisfy them. I just hope that the developers can do more to distinguish the game besides being "just like that Nintendo game, now on your PlayStation 3".

Is there a Vita version? I thought they've been working on this for more than 2 years now.

Yeah, you'd think something like this would also appear on the Vita. 2 years is plenty of time to plan for a Vita version. 3DS is getting a SSB game, and if Sony's going to go ahead and bring out a game like this, then they might as well show they're serious about the Vita and bring it there as well.

As someone who greatly enjoys the fighting genre as well as many of Sony's properties, I'm not allowed to voice my concerns for the game as a competitive fighter?

Kratos denied Parappa's skateboard, and killed all 3 people. High priority, or Parappa's skateboard has a long vulnerable startup.

Yes, and I do like the aesthetics in that game. That game has a cohesive homemade crafts look. I don't see what that has to do with this.

When you said mish mash I thought you were talking about the LittleBigPlanet arena, which looks like... well, LittleBigPlanet.

The platforms with incorrect answers get pies thrown at them (taking away AP). I think the correct platform gives you AP.

ooh very clever idea from the devs then. Risk and Reward system. Do we know how much AP we need to fill up the bar for those special moves?

I was not really talking about you. The huge retarded argument about the competitiveness of SB was my real target.

Came back in here to see if the chaos has died down a bit. NOPE...

...It's just that the last few pages have been comparing it with SSB on a competitive level and I wanted to chime in having been a long time competitive SSB player.

great post, very enlightening!

Yeah I'll say my only concern is I'm not a big fan of health in these types of games along with being forced to jump in the fights. Also not quite sold on mashing up stages with different game themes. Also focusing the game around their supers.

I just want to tell you despite me joking about the wall of text bit for your post I did read it. There are parts I agree and parts I disagree (such as the avoiding mechanics) Just please know my comment that followed was not aimed at you. I saw your posts earlier as well and you were a good sport about things.
