Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

Won't be either of those things.
Anything from Google for the Wii U will likely be in the form of a lightweight web based background OS that can run in tandum with the full OS that Nintendo creates, which will allow you to pull up specific features from predetermined webhosts (like say, a Video website or a blog type site) at any point on your controller.

Ah ok this makes more sense. I've seen posts about Android on Wii U which doesn't sound good at all. That sounds much more exciting...

You're all way off, so stop guessing. This is why we can't have nice things.

...and the hype is killed.

Speaking of Ninja, he usually posts about first party affairs so I would assume he is speaking about that front, but it could be both.

All this OS talk has gotten me excited. I was pleasantly surprised with the 3DS, but more like the Vita would be wonderful IMO.

Edit: I'm speaking more about menu navigation then anything. You guys seem to be onto something else...

What's with all the info we're getting tonight. IdeaMan, get the controller info you had up on here so tonight may officially be known as wednesdayton.

I'll take this.

Scene: Camera Zooms out to reveal a guy playing the Wii U on a coach
Scene: Wii U logo appears
Commenator "Straight fun, no installs, just pure hardcore fun".

Scene: Back to the guy on coach. The guys freind appears next to him holding a bowl of popcorn

The Wii U will likely have a lot more active background things.
Think Spot Pass, but on steroids.

tadaaaaam

the guess is strong in this one

oh and i see that a google employee may have just confirmed in a way my info about the software layer/os features of wii u !

btw, i need to sleep, it's late here !

Since Ideaman likes to encourage people having ideas, I'll bite with a scenario.

From your Friend's List you can choose to contact either one person, a few people, or the whole group. You will have options to send a text, voice, or video message to the selected person(s) or to start a voice or video chat with the same selected person(s). This is done through the controller, though the main screen could be used as well. If this is done for a chat, on the sender's end it shows some type of pending or connecting message as it tries to connect and it could show beside each username attempting to be contacted. The sender will also be able to setup a "timeout" feature. If the attempted contact is not connected after a determined about of time, the sender then has the option to leave a voice or video message. The sender will also be allowed to "hang up" if they change their mind before the others pick up. If only a few in the contact group answer the call, the sender will have the option to record the session and send it as a message to the ones unable to respond at that time.

On the receiver side if they aren't on the console, when they get on they will see a message(s) has been left and they have the choice to listen/watch, save, delete, etc. If the person is on Wii U and surfing the Internet, playing with apps, playing a game, etc., a small portion of the controller screen and/or screen (I'll say top, but it would be customizable) will say incoming message or chat. If it is a message the receiver can choose to listen/watch at that time, save it for later, or delete. If it is a chat the receiver can either accept or reject the chat. If the receiver rejects the chat they will have the option to send a reason as to why they rejected or request a recording.

This was a spur of the moment thing so I tried to at least cover the gaps within this idea.

This was kind of a given considering you told us that the OS needs a lot of RAM. I'm still not getting exactly what kinds of features we might be getting though.

Not to impugn Shikamaru at all, but I don't think we share the same tastes. IIRC, he was pretty excited about Steel Diver, as well.

Hey, I liked Steel Diver!!! :p
it should have been a $10 digital title I admit.

I can't really speak for anyone, but for me a new IP from Nintendo was exciting in itself, especially if you weren't aware of the lack of content. Too bad it didn't pan out like most wanted it too....

They hired Denise something-or-other (Kegler I think?), but she left after about a year or so. Now they have some guy whose name I can't remember

Ugh, Denise Kegler was soooo boring and stuck to her PR scripts like a drone, her IGN Q&As were pointless. Cammie was bad for E3 but at least her interviews were interesting.

It's like every day some new guy comes in with mysterious sources and does cockteases, knowing how easy it is to hype people up over nothing.

Also, if you read my post backwards and listen to the SML2 boss theme, you'll get a HuGE hint about a launch time for the Wii U!

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
My sources told me the Wii U comes with an ancient riddle master and if you pass his trials you unlock the secret processing core that gives you 4k resolutions at 60fps.

i heard the Wii U launch line-up includes a game named "Megaman X Returns" or "Megaman Origins" or something like that

source: my dreams

i was going to say "Megaman Legends" too but.. ;_;

A lot of speculation about the OS, the Controller and the Ram but i feel the most important piece of hardware in Wii U will be the GPU.

It will truly dictate how the system holds up against Sony and Microsofts next console in the years to come, 512 MB's of less Ram would be ok for developers to work around but a GPU that is 500 teraFLOPs weaker than PS4/720 would not.

@Ideaman

Do you know how many teraFLOPs the Wii U GPU is ?, im not looking for an answer but it would be nice if you did know ;).

Im guessing the Wii U GPU will be 500 - 750 teraFLOPs in power (Xbox 360's is 250 for comparison).

I fear the PS4 / 720 will be 1200 - 1500 tho :(.

Isn't this Cynthia Gordon chick working at Nintendo now?

Nintendo of America has announced they have hired Cynthia Gordon as the new vice president of Corporate Affairs. The new hire was previously working for 360 Public Relations as the Senior Vice President. While working for that company, she worked with clients in the video game industry.

In her past, Ms. Gordon has worked with companies such as Universal Orlando Resort, Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin-Robbins, Togo’s, and Chrysler Corporation. With no vice president of Sales & Marketing replacement for Cammie Dunaway found as of yet, Ms. Gordon will have to report to Reggie Fils-Aime who is managing the position for the time being. She takes over for Denise Kaigler who left approximately sixteen months ago to spend more time with her family.

I swear we saw her at the beginning of Nintendo's E3 conference last year walking through some hallways in a video.

You would have to hold the controller very awkwardly so that it would be capturing the plushie instead of you. That or tie a plushie to your face.

In game video chat would be a KILLER feature if they pull it off. Especially if it streams 4 or so video feeds simultaneously.

He's talking about always-on features. This is the part where we speculate about what kind of always-on feature might be clever for Nintendo to have. It's a speculation thread, it's what we do.

My idea from a few days ago came from that talk about buying "cards" at the retail store then going home to the Wii U and scanning it in. I thought that was really cumbersome.

We had just discovered that Nintendo may have a device which represents your Wii U in StreetPass (or was it SpotPass??) type situations. Why not just make it so that when you go to a retail store, you pay for a game, present the device to be scanned, then the retailer's computer basically sends a few packets to Nintendo's servers, enabling the immediate download of the game you just bought to your system if it's not actually depowered. That way, whether it's in sleep mode or being played by your little brother, the game you just bought will be sitting on your storage device when you arrive to play it.

I think that would be the most convenient possible scenario for getting a game. And it would enable retailers to sell any quantity of any title without the risk of running out of the cards for each game.

On another note: Hey, guys, I just heard that a second person who may not have been confirmed by a mod said something extra optimistic about Nintendo in the vaguest possible fashion. Let's assume the words are totally true because they're what we want to believe! ;O

Wait, what?

I don't get the jump in logic, if anything they will use Opera on the Wii U

They just ditched Opera for Netfront on the 3DS.

We've heard rumblings that it's at least 1 tflop. Take that with a HUGE grain of salt though.

God damned bubbles.

IIRC a lot of people were pretty excited about Steel Diver. Nintendo resurrecting an interesting-looking demo from the DS days, deep 3D effect with a cross section of the ocean, it sounded great until we started getting previews.

It could've had an actual Advance Wars-esque story mode and not been entirely touch-controlled, it could've explored more strange underwater environments, had powerups and leveling, who knew at the time.

Az987

all good things
I have no idea if anyone's asked or if its been said already since I don't really look at this thread much and have no desire to dig through all these pages but has Nintendo said anything about having a Virtual Console on Wii U?

I'm probably in the minority here but the main reason I bought a Wii was for VC games and even though there are still a lot of greats games across all the older systems missing I don't regret buying it for that reason at all.

I think I own about 50 or so VC games and obviously I don't want to buy the ones I own all over again but I'd love it if Sega CD and Saturn games were available for download at $10 or so a piece. That would probably be reason enough for me to buy a Wii U.

Another thing I'd really like to see is a Super Gameboy type add on that plays DS games since the controller is a touchscreen.

Supercomputing next gen consoles confirmed!

I think you meant giga, not tera. :)

Actually you are lowballing the PS4/720. They'll be higher.

But the Wii U GPU is still up for debate, but is a primary factor in determining the gap. The problem with accurately calculating this for Wii U is going to be due to Nintendo modifications. It is plausible in my opinion that these mods could easily double the performance over it's standard usage.

In game video chat would be a KILLER feature if they pull it off. Especially if it streams 4 or so video feeds simultaneously.

I really do believe they will try to have cross-game voice/video chat.

This would be freaking awesome. Hopefully retailers would be willing to set up the infrastructure necessary to do this in each of their stores. It shouldn't really take much.

Well

They didn't use Opera on 3DS............despite the DS browser being Opera

And I haven't been following Wii U news too much but it seems like it's structure internally isn't at all too similar to the Wii thus Opera wouldn't necessary have an experience advantage over another company. If anything NetFront or whatever the 3DS has is more likely........./shrug

EDIT: Looking at NetFront, it seems like their specialty is mobile, I don't think that would apply to WiiU.
