Multiplayer gow? Really? Like uncharted, who really likes the mp part compared to single ?
Uncharted 2 had the best multiplayer, in my eyes, when it first came out. I put probably about 5-600 hours into the open beta and the first few months that it was out. I know many other GAFfers did the same. Of course, ND fucked it up and everybody pretty much quit playing it at that point.

Todd thanks this will be better looking than GOW3.What do you guys think?

Also are you fine with the game being GOW1 length?
I'm not expecting a huge jump in visuals outside of lighting but the brighter color palette and hopefully a more steady 60fps will still make it look very nice and visually distinct from 3.

GoW1 length is perfect. Longer than 3 but not as long as 2. 2 isn't as replayable because of it's length and I don't think that with the amount of time and effort that current gen assets take they could keep the pass up for that long.

I think the lighting and the textures will be improved over GOW3.

Bigger creatures and maybe more on screen at a time will add to that I think.

Level system for armor, weapons and magic. Buffing and healing. Sounds great so far.

Mini-games = Quick Time Events, right?
Yeah.

Oh yeah, I forgot about textures. Definitely room to improve there. I also feel like by not trying do stuff like constantly shifting levels on the Titans in real time that they can save a lot of processing power for other things.

A bit OT but still GOW related, you guys watch Spartacus? Coz this guy could totally play the role if the game had a movie

Some more details:
Calling it "the next big thing in the God of War series," game director Todd Papy provided a glimpse of the competitive multiplayer during a hands-off demo. The mode that was demoed is called "Execution," God of War's take on domination, a staple in a majority of multiplayer games. Two teams of four battle AI-controlled adversaries in an attempt to control two points on the map. As soon as the predetermined points are controlled, the spirit of Olympus -- a powerful spear-like weapon -- plummets from the sky, granting the team that controls it an advantage over the opposition. The mode then morphs into an attack-and-defend battle as human-controlled players square off, culminating in a faceoff against an enormous Cyclops.

The choice of weapon intersects with the character's chosen patron god, offering something close to a class system. Players can select from Poseidon, Hades, Zeus and Ares at character creation and each offers a different progression tree of skills, weapons, items (including themed armour) and magic, with experience points (XP) earned for taking part in battles and achieving objectives. Santa Monica Studios is working on a system where levelling up can happen mid-fight, leading to one team earning a distinct advantage in real time rather than waiting until the dust has settled.

Players are also given a secondary attack that uses a weapon collected in the arena or, if they've not collected one, delivers a kick that pushes back opponents."We've put in a kick button," says Jason. "It makes sense. 'This is Sparta,' right? There will be weapons around the level that you can pick up and use, and if you don't have a weapon, you've got to kick. There'll be a lot of things to pick up and use in addition to your primary weapon."
Developing God of War games is a challenge made harder with every iteration, as the creators need continually to push the scope of one of the largest and most visually impressive titles on the market. I ask Jason where the series can go from here, and if he reckons the team has hit the limit of how big they can make a Cyclops.

"Well, this is the biggest Cyclops we're ever had, obviously. But I think we can go bigger."

The secondary weapon stuff would be cool.

Not sure how the kick woudl work though.

Ghost of Sparta had an unlockable kick attack. I think it was L1+X. In previous console GOW games that was the command for Icarus Lift, but since Kratos won't have the wings, they can replace it. The wingless lift from GOW1 was kind of redundant and looked sort of stupid to boot.

In GoS it was overpowered because it was an unlockable special, but it could be changed into a less damaging push-back move.

Really glad to hear they managed to integrate weapon pick-ups in the game. One of my favorite features in multiplayer games since they create better flow throughout the match and add hot spots. Too few games this gen do it anymore, but I guess that's part of why Warhawk and Uncharted 2 are among my favorite multiplayer experiences this gen.

Oh I did not know that,I have to play the prequels.

new God of War series with new mythology and characters next gen. They're just doing this boring prequel shit for the remaining days of the PS3. And testing out multiplayer modes with it so they can go full on for the next series.

How on earth can a game be boring when nobody's played it yet? This attitude boggles the mind!

GOW1 is really short, there is even a trophy to finish it in under 5 hours!

Of course average gamer will take 6-8 hours, but still short. GOW 2 is around 10-12 hours. On average at least 2 hours longer then the first one. GOW3 is there in between. Still longer then the first one.

Besides GOW2 isn't all the other ones about the same length wise?

Probably. Chains of Olympus and 3 felt pretty short too now that I think about it.

2 was great though. Tons of cool bosses and locations. Even with the simpler GoW combat I wouldn't care if they made it a 20 hour game if they kept throwing awesome bosses and locations at me.

You can finish GOW 3 in under 5 hours also so that trophy really don't mean much .

I felt GOW2 was a little too long. Don't get me wrong, it was very good, but it could of been shortened without losing anything major. There was a lot of filler.

Regardless GOW3 is at least an hour, an hour and a half longer for an average gamer. I said GOW3 is somewhere in between. GOW1 is short. It's clear now that resources went to MP, which I feared

GOW3 was great as well even though it was shorter.I think over 6 hours is fine for a game like this.

Like I if all but one of the GOW games were 6 to 8 hours,I don't see the problem here.

So what about Gow,or the 2 PSP titles with no multiplayer? They were are the same length as well.

It has nothing to do with multiplayer.

Well back in the PS2 days, I guess people were more tolerant. Now you get 3 games in one, like in the case of Black Ops 2. People always complain how short COD campaign are (on average 6-7 hours) but when it comes to GOW, now all of a sudden it's okey.
When it comes to PSP, again different standards, and games were not 60 USD.

Length isn't really an issue for a game like this. I mean, is it still a deal breaker for people these days? I always play these games more than once. As long as the scenarios are great, it doesn't matter how long the game is.

I normally replay the GOW games also but for 3 i really did not feel like doing it .

I dont see the issue either all of a sudden.

Anyways it always took me longer to complete these games,I guess because I search for those damn gorgon eyes and feathers.

I never played powerstone, but from what I seen it looks very fun.

So if that game is an inspiration got something else to look forward to.
