NHL '12 Playoffs |OT2| NHL ratings up 50%; GAF ratings down 90%

Man the Kings really look unbeatable. I think the Rangers will give them a series, but I dont think the other teams in the east will. Henrik versus Quick would be such an intense series. The NHL must be celebrating like crazy, the 2 teams in the most financial trouble are leading their 2nd round series, and it looks like LA versus NY fin the SCF. This is working out like it was the NBA.

This. As someone whose team didn't even make the playoffs, a Rangers/Kings Cup final would be the most interesting to watch, mainly because of the goalie matchup.

The Yotes could spoil the party, though. I suppose it's possible the Rangers won't come out of the East, but I think they'll do it.

I thought this post on CSN Philly made a lot of sense., although the takeaway is that for the Flyers to win the series they need Pronger and Mezaros to come back fully healthy on Sunday.

Painful to watch, but deja vus all over again, really. The Flyers coaching staff is getting absolutely schooled.

Folks are going to attack the individual Flyers defensemen, but that's not really the problem.

The Flyers' "system" all year long has involved gaining control of the puck down low and trying to make break out plays up the middle. Unlike teams like NJ, the Flyers do not make use of the boards much to clear the zone and the Flyers forwards do not cover the points (i.e make sure pucks fired around the boards get out). This is a beautiful idea, and I guess if you have Pronger, Timonen, Meszaros, Carle and Coburne playing huge minutes, you can do it. Unfortunately, we don't. We have Lilja. Bottom line: Larry Robinson has got the Flyers' defensive "system" absolutely booked and he is ripping it to shreds. If the Flyers continue to try to start their offense from behind their goal line, they are toast.

You can blame individual players like Carle and Lilja all you like, but you're missing the point. This has been a glaring problem all season long, and the Flyers coaching staff has done nothing to fix it. I've really come to admire Lilja this season: the guy is a step away from the glue factory and he's doing his best. You cannot expect him to do what the Flyers are asking him to do. Same with Carle.

FWIW: this is why our genius coach Peter Laviolette was fired in Carolina--he was incapable of adapting once teams had figured out his "system."

The Flyers are a very simple team: if they can move the puck out of their end effectively, they are unstoppable; if they get hemmed in at all, they fold like a cheap tent. The Flyers forwards are working hard trying to defend, but they are lost. The Flyer's hung in this game but were really never in it: right now the Devils own the Flyers D. The only question is whether the Flyers can quickly figure out a way to get the puck past the NJ forecheck and integrate this into some kind of offense.

The Flyers do go with a more high risk high reward approach then most teams, but it worked great for them against the Pens, and has worked well at times this series. Their problem is the they are just making so many bad turnovers, even on plays when they are not being pressured, and Bryz isnt going to erase all of those mistakes. If the Flyers just clean up the turnovers and start carrying in the puck against the Devils, rather then always dump and chase, they will be fine. Marty hasnt exactly been a wall this series, the Flyers just havnt been able to sustain pressure so far.

Yotes have done all the party spoiling they're going to do.

Hey we dont need that cocky stuff here. Just tip your cap to the Yotes and talk about how good they are.

I know you are just trolling but this doesnt even make sense. The Flyers could go to the SCF, which would be much further then they went last year, and lose to the Kings. If the Flyers did or did not improve has nothing at all to do with how far the Kings go.

I'm actually NOT trolling. The goal is to win the Stanley Cup ASAP. If the Kings do that this year, then the trades made the Kings better, not the Flyers, as the players the Flyers sent the other way put the Kings over the top.

Radulov will be unhappy to hear that.

It isnt an either or proposition. Both the Flyers and Kings can improve their team even though at most only 1 can win the cup. If the Kings get to the SCF but lose to the Rangers are you saying that they didnt improve at all, does only 1 team per season improve?

I hear you. It's full of errors. Belfour could conceivably be behind a bar, but only so he could drink straight from the tap.

Also Radulov should have a coke in his hand.

Whatever happens this year, the Flyers turned Jeff Carter into Couturier and Voracek and that was a massive upgrade long term. The fact Carter made his way to LA and is now along for the ride with a great playoff team doesn't change that.

The Richards trade is much more debatable because the Flyers sent him directly to the Kings and he is a much better player, especially in the postseason.

Schenn is still having a really good playoff, the surprise is that Simmonds has struggled so much. During the regular season even when he wasnt scoring he was hitting and doing the little things. In game 2 he had 0 hits, and he has looked lost and slow this series. Hopefully the extra day off before game 4 helps all the guys get their legs back.

"Real Hockey" happened last night when the Kings beat the Blues. There's also real hockey tonight when the Coyotes move within 1 win of going to the Western Conference Finals!

Man, the Kings are playing really fucking good. Whoever comes out of Preds/Yotes will have their hands full with a team firing on all cylinders.

shitting in the alley outside your window
kings would look like Mariano Rivera trying to field a ball in batting practice if they had to go up against the preds

Did the Preds play them after they got Carter? Not that regular season is much of a barometer, for example see Bryz v Devils.
yea, twice. kings won both but preds shat the bed in the 3rd in one and other was a 5-4 game where rinne got yanked

The article posted by Curufinwe is bang on, which is sad.

A pretty one-dimensional team which lavy is to blame.

Really, we could pull this one out just by getting pucks to the net and getting some bounces, but it's gonna be hard if we continue to play the same style we have been all year. You know Lavy in the locker room is going "KEEP PLAYING OUR GAME" :/

If we run into the rags next round, we get swept. They know exactly how to play us and matchup perfectly against us.

This is only the second time in Kings playoff history that they are up 3 games to none. The first time in playoff history was against the Canucks last month.

So there not being punished but they are being benched, lol. I guess they just didnt want to deal with the NHLPA over a multigame suspension?

You always go with the winning lineup until they lose.

With those two in their lineup their record is 0-2 and without 1-0.

Small sample size, plus istn it a pretty common thing for a team to pull together and play better in the short term when they lose a good player, but it isnt usually sustainable long term. Maybe they plan to switch them back in after a lose but they are in a tough spot. One more lose and they will be facing elimination. An example that is almost the same was the Pens had Neal suspended for game 4, they won that game which was their first win of the series, game 5 he was right back in the lineup.

Coaches do that all the time, just because it's Radulov doesn't change anything, I don't see how you explain to the 2 guys you have to take out that you're putting him and AK back in after a 2-0 victory. It's also pretty funny watching Elliot finally get exposed.

Quick has stuggled historically against Nashville so the Yotes would be a better matchup. During the regular season Bernier got most of the playing time against Nashville and he has gone 6-1 against Nashville but I doubt he would see any ice time in the playoffs.

I hate hockey so much right now...

I hope USA has a good showing. They have Fowler, Ryan, and Palmieri from the Ducks. Getzy was named Team Captain for Canada and got 3 assist earlier today. No goals from ExMVPerry though.

freaking queens...

Whoops, new thread:

Hey guys!

Just got back from my 1week-vacation in the Dominican, is anybody still watching? -cough-

What are some memorable events/gifs that I've missed? I'd appreciate any kind of bringing me up do date, for what it's worth. Thanks!

As a sidenote, I saw someone indigenous wearing a Higgins-21-Canadians shirt, made me lol a bit.

Nice. So pathetic. All hail the Kings i guess. The last team from the west I saw play with that look in their eye were the 07 Ducks. We are just out matched. Brown is the most skilled agitator I've ever seen play the game.

If the Kings play like this through the rest of the conference finals they will steam roll NY.

It has been hurting too much to look in these threads as a Blues fan. We've completely fallen apart. It feels like all of our momentum vanished when Pietrangelo got hurt and that short handed goal was scored against us.

I hope we can get at least one win, but if all else fails we always have the Cardinals.

Fuck that. I want a Blues Cup win just once before I die. I'd like to think we could make it go to game 5 or 6, but realistically we're probably getting swept. :(
