Namco Bandai Targets Two Million For Tekken Tag Tournament 2

In an earnings presentation today, Namco Bandai said that 27% of its games lost money in 2011. This was actually a boast. As recently as 2009, 50% of the publisher's games lost money.

You can see Namco Bandai's presentation materials here.

The materials reveal some of the publisher's sales targets:

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Over 2 million
Soul Calibur V (North America): 650,000
BEN10: 400,000
Naruto Narutimate Storm Generation (North America): 300,000

Soul Calibur V and Naruto's Europe and Japan targets were included in last year's forecasts.

So, do you think they can reach it, or are fighting games starting to decline in sales?

Game will be godlike...but that's a stretch. Possible, but it will be a slog to the number.
With the number of fighting games out there, I don't think they will replicate the successes T5 and 6 were.

Tekken 6 did not do to good if i remember right but 2 million for TTT 2 is very possible if it's good and the fan base still there .

Didn't seem to help SFvT

What ever happened to Sfxt was on Capcom's part not Namco's. But I reckon most of that games sales came from brand name as the game is filled to the brim with broken game faults and horrible business decisions.

For sure. I'm just saying it won't succeed on the name alone, and the genre is getting fatigued again badly.

For 2D fighters? sure. For 3D? not so much, and Tekken has lots of fans that don't care about 2D games (and didn't care about SFxT).

I get that, but Tekken sells really well in regions SF don't. TTT2 has also great buzz behind it while SFxT had a horrible one.

Genre fatigue or not, I think had Capcom not messed up the game so bad, SFxT would have met its target sales

So what's that game in the lower right corner? AKB48 game?

Yes.

TTT2 will do 2m easily. It also won't receive the type of backlash that SFxT had to go through

"As far as DLC, we don’t have concrete plans yet, but the way I’m thinking though is that the characters and such are like pieces that are necessary for a chess game," Harada continued. "So you wouldn’t want to sell them, because some people would have them and some wouldn’t. If we have DLC characters or stages, they would be free. We might use them for pre-order bonuses though, because the retailers really like it. That doesn’t mean they’d be exclusive forever though. That just means you’d get it earlier, for a certain period. So the players, they get to see a variety of different characters from the different pre-orders and such. The retailers get their pre-orders so they’re happy and if the retailers are happy, we’re happy. So that makes everyone happy."

I also forget to mention that Tekken does really well in the arcades in east Asia and is a big chunk from the profits from each Tekken title.

According to Harada's twitter they sold 3.5 million copies of T6 worldwide

Edit: Dammit AAK!!! :)

Yes, when Capcom or Namco says what they sold, it's what they (the publisher) sold.
That means what they sold to retailers, not what consumers bought.

As evidenced by the NPD, Media Create, and European data, there's no way it adds up to anything close to what they ship.
Which always makes me wonder how retailers keep buying into them.

If you want to play that game, I can also claim that those numbers don't include the GOD Tekken 6 sales either.

Street Fighter IV's sales (by consumers) is much better though.
Capcom doesn't ship nearly as many abundant copies as Namco does.

I will double dip, but what I really want is a PC version. 1080p, anisotropic filtering, anti aliasing and so on instead of blurry pixelated sub-720p.

Yes, I know there's no way that will happen, sadly.

How do you know those figures are shipped and not sold? Harada explicitly says SOLD not SHIPPED.
