I think this brings up an interesting point. What makes you think it wouldn't be about robots fighting in space? Did space not exist in ancient eras? :)

This can totally be the Turn A Gundam of ZoE. Trick us into thinking it's set in the past when it's really the distant future.

They have acted pretty cautiously on everything related to this franchise lately, but maybe Kojima Productions themselves are underestimating how attractive a new game can be, like how the enthusiasm from the public on the TGS 2011 SPECIAL STAGE event for this series they organized apparently caught them by surprise.

Maybe they have been burned out by the average sales of the previous games (I don't know what were KONAMI expectations exactly), and thought people would have somewhat forget about Z.O.E having passed all this time, but I think all this wait has instead sparked the interest of many.

If this is announced exclusively for the 3DS, I along with many other fans of the series, will be disappointed. No one wants a new ZOE game that will look worse than the first two games. The 3DS turned Snake Eater into an unplayable mess. Oh, and saying that the 3DS will do it justice because the PS2 did, is a poor argument; When ZOE2 was released it was one of the best looking games on the planet. If ZOE appears exclusively on the 3DS, it won't be one of the best looking games on the planet. This deserves to be played on a big screen.

Anyway, this news is massively exciting!

I'm sure they're very passionate about this franchise themselves, and they were/are trying to measure fan response to it until now. Now they've moved on to next stage where they want to see how that fan response pans out in actual sales from the hd collection and are preparing to build further on that with this enders project announcement.

Yeah, because MGS3 port was 3DS fault, not because of it's low-budget-i-dont-care nature.

Pretty certain this has begun actual development

Kojima will probably go quiet about the idea for a year or so, and then BAM crazy launch trailer that blows everyone away

The problem is that Konami is a business, and that a ZOE sequel is not likely to turn a profit if it's developed on a full HD retail budget.

A console DD release would be more plausible, though.

1) Fox Engine isn't on 3DS, which is what they showed the renders in. This obviously won't be a 3DS game.

2) MGS3 3DS is a surprisingly decent port, leagues better than MGS2 Xbox was. The Naked Sample shows a ground up 3DS MGS would probably blow the doors off anything PS2 could manage anyway.

Yeah, they sure are eager to show what they can do, and at the same time extremely expectant of the reactions.

Extremely happy to hear of this but not so happy at the long ass time we will have to wait for this (if it gets made at all), considering how productive KojiPro has been this gen.

That's just the KojiPro smartphone site. You get that message because it detected that you're not using a phone.
But the thing is that I've also accessed it from a mobile phone, and without modifying the 'User Agent' option from the browser.

Could someone try accessing it as well, please?

What is this weirdness. The orbital frames in ZOE1/2 weren't ancient relics.

Anyway, I do hope it becomes a real game.

Hopefully this won't be MML3 all over again. (I think will get made, Konami has nothing else going on and this would be a good way to start their next-gen.)

Lovely art.

Any kind of footage would be more than enough for me even if the game won't be coming out any time soon. Kojima and co's initiative shows their determination to see this project through, which gives me some hope.

Looks like Shinkawa "Izubichi'd" his design quite a bit. Strange.

Also, no Crotch-pit. Which helps the design quite a bit. I like it, not sure if I like the sculls and "organic" look as much as I liked the old design for Jehuty though.
