E3 signage starting to show up in LA

Nintendo wasted no time covering up
Given it's Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if the *first* thing they do is erect the curtains.

Have there been any mutterings about the mysterious booth 5054 yet? Would that be an exhibitor who didn't want to be announced or simply something reserved by the convention centre people for their own purposes?

Are those tables at the top roughly to scale? Might give us an idea about how big things actually are.

5054 is still just listed as reserved on the E3 site with no further explanation. Could be an area for overflow seating for lunch or it could be a booth owner who is staying anonymous for now

Didn't notice 4044 over by Sony, too; same principle, I guess, although that one isn't appropriately-placed for overflow seating.

The bit that strikes me is that those are *large* blocks. Hmmm. If the rumours are true, could 4044 be Gaikai?

Gaikai does have a meetings booth in the meetings area of the convention hall.

I thought the Gaikai-Sony thing was crushed by the Samsung reveal?

Microsoft has such odd booth placement though them being Microsoft it doesn't really matter.

Moment you enter the hall assaulting your eyes ahead is Sony and Nintendo. Have to go in and look to the left to even see Microsofts booth

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Nintendo covering everything. I hope no one thinks it's worthy to take a look behind the curtains...'cause looking there would mean dying istantly.

If you make something that's incredibly obviously a joke it's not bannable, especially given the context of his post.

It's easy to underestimate how "obvious" a joke image is though, people online are often pretty bad at detecting sarcasm. If you're going to make a fake image you should make it as obvious as littlegator did.

Seeing a beautiful, wonderfully architected glass building being covered by gaudy action shot posters is really too bad. :p

MS was the last to join the game industry. Sega used to be in the main hall with Sony and Nintendo. When MS joined there was no space so they were put in the second hall. When Sega stopped making hardware they didn't need that huge booth anymore so the floor space was sold to other companies. MS slowing worked their way to the main hall and this year I believe is the first year that they are in the main hall. Thats why the booth is oddly shaped.

Companies pay for placement. The bigger the booth, and more obvious the placement to the crowd, the more money the company paid for it.

Hmm, I've been going to E3 for years, and I never considered that the "main" hall, there are always just as big publishers in the other hall, and both get just as big crowds. It was always just the South Hall, the West Hall, some little side hall, and the long lost Kentia Hall (oh how I miss you!).

BTW, you can't really see Nintendo or Sony from the entrance, those booths up front block the view.

This is the first year since 1997 Atlanta that I'm not going.

I consider it the main hall because it was where all the first parties were. Even though the third party booths are in the other hall you can still play those same games in the first party booths. Its like one stop shopping.

Where are the boxes? If the booth are getting build up, they must be here by now!
Well, deadline for air freight was:

May 16, 2012 for delivery to the advance receiving warehouse
May 23, 2012 for delivery direct to show site

And for ocean freight:

May 9, 2012 for delivery to the advance receiving warehouse
May 16, 2012 for delivery direct to show site

Sure, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony all have North American departments, but I assume some things (demo kiosks) are to be shipped from abroad. All relevant crates ought to be there by now anyway. Ah well, we will know soon.

Would be awesome if one of the booths were for Rockstar, announce GTA V at one of the conferences then be playable or demoed at the R* booth.

You never considered Microsoft a first party? And from my experience, there's very little crossover between the first-party booths and the developer/publisher booths, only the biggest titles do that.
