Wii U framerate drops to 30fps if using a second GamePad

GAF's moving both fast and slow so please lock if there's already a thread on this:

Update: In a follow-up, Nintendo Japan has posted on Twitter that there's a price to pay if two Gamepads are active. Frame rates drop to about 30 fps if two are active; any games that really want that extra controller won't be quite as glass-smooth. On the upside, it's possible to switch one off with a smooth transition; there won't be a need for theatrics just to switch to a solo game.

Wii U looks like a mess to me. Last Nintendo console I bought was Gamecube, which might just be my last Nintendo console ever. Plus F-Zero is dead. *sigh*

This is only to be expected. Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to re-evaluate their expectations of console hardware

I don't see why people are surprised there's a performance hit...also, I don't know how you can say all games will drop to 30fps...that doesn't really make logical sense

I'm pretty sure they mean the framerate on the screen. Like the Wii U can only send out 60fps, so if you're using 2 controllers, it has to split that framerate.

Not that no game will be able to run at higher than 30fps if there are two controllers.

Sure it does. They'll be referring to the internal timings of the thing.

You guys are probably interpreting it wrongly. They most likely mean that when 2 controllers are active, the framerate on each screen is halved from a maximum of 60 to 30 each, since they are now sharing the bandwidth.

I said this before and just now in Steam chat, those pads are not going to be free. This is further disappointing news that will deter me from playing MP games.

You're fooling yourself if you think that any new console going forward is going to have a majority share of 60 FPS games. Developers will choose 30 FPS to squeeze in more eye candy, it's guaranteed.

.
Finally, some logic.

you speak so well
Nintendo is killing any and all interest I had in the system today. It's pretty impressive really.

So if 2 = 30, 1 = 60 then one screen doing simple 2D UI shit =..90!? 90 FPS GAMING FOLKS.

Only on WiiU

Unless they make a system which has to sell for $599 they can't beast the thing out with uber parts, with whatever power they have having a choice is at least better then not having one.
