Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

Brolic Gaoler

For those still asking.

So basically same weapon, just dependent on preference of burst or single. Guess that also depends on recoil, bloom and ROF.

Lack of airburst on the sticky det makes me sad :( That was my favorite part of the pro pipe.

Also, I saw a screenshot of three spartans standing in a row, one of them was white with green detailing. I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. Anyone know? I want to make a new avatar from it.

I wish there were more hours in a day. :(

Off to the Convention Center...

Thanks for the info.

I haven't read it all yet, but noticed this

"One last factoid: Spartan Ops geometry is custom-built for Spartan Ops - there's not supposed to be any overlap with standard Campaign geometry. (The entire Spartan Ops storyline takes place 6 months after the end of the regular Halo 4 campaign story.)"

That's very interesting. Since spartan ops, war games, and campaign are all canon, i'm just going to assume that they somehow get the crashed Infinity off Requiem or build a new one (Since Spartan Ops takes place inside Infinity).

Yup, that is very interesting.

I think Spartan Ops is launched / briefed from the inside Infinity but takes place in various locations as away missions. As in, you may take a shuttle to a place on Requiem. So the Infinity might still be marooned on Requiem at the end of Halo 4.

What's the problem with BR being 5 shot? Just that it's not exact same as Halo 3? I have no issue with it, eapecially since kill times appear to be so fast.

Crawlers are fast, do relatively little damage individually, but swarm, and can be a pain in the ass if you get cornered. Watchers can catch grenades (and throw them back), protect other Prometheans, and spawn Crawlers.
Reminds me of this.

Shoot the Watcher first! Really like the dynamic of having support units that can reinforce or complicate a battle, presenting a target priority.

Loving the Scattershot from all I've seen and read. The best touch is how the beams are visible, and have a clearly discernible end point - you see them nip out of existence after a certain range. You won't be wondering how long the effective range is, and you can see how many beams impact a player outside of close range.

It's also self-balancing to the ricochet effect, because you can bounce shots around a corner - but only *just* around the corner. You can't stand outside a room and carpet bomb the room from there.

I'm worried about some stuff. DMR is still 3x, the jetpack is still in, vehicle damage is a concern. None the less - Excitement level: rising. The new additions sound very well thought out.

In the Gametrailer interview footage, there appears to be no fall damage. At least, in spartan ops.

I saw fall damage in the Spartan Ops footage from the Kiki Gametrailers interview.

If a TV series is typically 12 episodes and a Season is typically 20-24 would i be correct in the assumption its closer to a Series than a Season ?

Okay, America vs Euro question here. Why do they call what we call seasons of a TV series a series? Is there an actual explanation for it or is it just one of those things?

It's the best active multiplayer game out right now.

How many HaloGAF have Shadowrun?

BF3 says hai

Spartan Ops sounds great, my only question being the objective/set up of the missions leading to as much replayability as a mode like Firefight.

Listening to Walshy, Best Man, and Bravo's weapon discussion. Good discussion with lots of good info. Magnum 8 shot clip and 6 shot kill. FACEPALM.

If the BR was 4 shots everyone would be complaining about how the killtimes were too fast and this was turning into Cowadoody.

For one, if the clip size remains the same then it limits it to a double kill at most on one clip. Second, we have no idea what the actual kill-times are. All we know is how fast the BR appears to shoot in the videos and how many shots to kill it currently is. Using those two factors, it appears that kill times are very slow for mid-long range precision weapons. Kill speed also appears to be very fast for close range, spam weapons.

Slow kill times are not good for Halo games for a multitude of reasons.

I just thought a design decision was capability to get a triple with the main utility weapons, such as the BR and DMR; I suppose this isn't the case.

Requiring more hits to kill, along with fast kill times for people that are good enough to land all of their shots, is good for promoting skilled play. Its obviously harder to land 5 shots than 4, especially considering how quickly it appears the new BR can fire.

The pros that have played say the DMR and BR melt faces; where are you getting your info that they are very slow?

Ghaleon, if my memory is correct, I seem to recall you posting the same comic way back before ODST's release when talking about the Engineers. :lol Makes it that much more enjoyable to talk about support enemies like that.

Thanks, Wu! Great write-up.

This is relevant to my interests.

This is wonderful news. <3

It would just be strange as a 5 shot. A 36 bullet clip in 3 round bursts is 12 shots. 12 was divisible by 4, but not 5. Just strange is all.

I just thought of something else.

Spartan Ops is meant to be a training program for Spartan IV's, so maybe we won't see Spartan IV's in campaign until Halo 5. But who knows until we actually get the game.

the 5 shot BR has to do with kill times and clip sizes. If the kill time is the same, then no problem on that front. But 36 bullets don't work out well with a 5 shot BR, which traditionally has 3 kills to a clip

Let's not forget about grenades. Even if the mag had enough shots for the triple, you could also squeeze out the overkill with a couple well placed pineapples. That's a lot of potential damage already.

Spartan Ops aren't the training, Wargames are.

Spartan Ops are supposed to be actually happening, as in story progression like the campaign; not a danger room.

Seeing the Storm Rifle kill someone really fast while the player misses half his shots and then hear that the BR is a 5 shot is worrying. The BR footage in the B-roll makes it look like it kills fast but everyone who he's shooting is already weak/getting shot at so it's not a very accurate representation.

In addition, I found it very interesting from Wu's write-up that the Spartan Ops storyline takes place 6 months after the Halo 4 ends. Very interesting...

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying that.

Do we know when War Games takes place in the Halo canon?

I assume they are running wargames whenever they aren't running spartan ops ;)

Yes, obviously this arc of war with the Didact is going to be long indeed. If MC is showing up in some of the spartan ops briefings, obviously he is still around Requiem.

Fuck it, what a shit day. Posted mere hours ago that my girlfriend was all fine after having to take her to A&E on Monday during E3...and then she calls me to tell me she's currently upside down in her car after an accident and the Fire Service are having to cut her out! Back to hospital for me! :(

Yeah, from what we've seen and heard the storm rifle seems insanely powerful.

Um, ya. I think that's what we were saying was interesting, about the timeline taking place after Halo 4 ends. Which is when he mentioned that the Infinity must have been repaired and off the planetoid, which is when I said that that wasn't necessarily the case. They could still be marooned.

I doubt the Storm Rifle is going to outperform the BR at medium range. That's all that really matters.

The fact that she called while she was upside down suggests she's probably not too seriously hurt (she's got a good sense of humour, bless her) but yeah, I'm heading down to the Hospital now, so will update later. Thanks folks.

Oh, man. I hope she's okay! The fact that she was able to call you should mean it wasn't too bad, so that's good news.
