Trond Arne Aas, long term CEO of Funcom since Age of Conan, resigned earlier today. He takes on the new role as strategic advisor (to the board). At the moment, it is not known who will take over as new CEO.

(The linked article is in Norwegian only one I could find on the subject)

Terrible translation of the same article by google.

Pity that the game seems like it'll sink, it looked pretty interesting.

Not that I'm helping by waiting for it to go F2P.

I was watching someone playing this on Twitch and it looks kinda neat but then I saw pay to play :( It should be obvious that f2p is the way forward for MMO's now. Seems Blizzard can only still get away with p2p.

If you've played it you'll understand why. For a game with that much dev time it sure doesn't come out in the finished project.

At least that's my impressions from beta so it might have changed for all I know.

Awesome setting and lore, but damn if the mechanics of the combat didn't sour me on the game. Felt awful.

The good news is that it will go F2P faster after is bombs. I'm interested in it because it's made by Ragnar Tørnquist, but I'm not paying for an MMO. I wish Funcom would get back to making adventure games.

This was my personal impression after playing the beta.

It's bad core MMO mechanics, wrapped in an interesting shell of fairly well-executed settings, events, dialog, and lore. Unfortunately, the crux of the game is shoddy combat.

Keep us updated on beta impressions when the full game is out!

You mean the beta that happened weeks before the game came out. Are you going to tell me that it's not fair to base my opinions off of that?

You must have it pre-ordered and are in the pre-start so please come back and tell me how the combat has drastically changed and how the horrible voice acting and animations have changed.

That sucks. Most of the impressions I've read from the OT were really positive. It was probably the most silent launch for a big MMO ever.

It's not like it's the worst game ever, it's just janky as hell. Like most people have said the setting and world are pretty interesting but combat just didn't feel great which for me is the most important thing. There's better MMO's out there basically.

It is a pretty unique MMO. GF ended up picking it up, it's still very buggy but it has some of the most interesting approaches to quests in it. Still has generic MMO quests but they do mix it up with alot of interesting twists that require some actual thought.

The combat and feel of the gameplay just left me going meh, but I will possibly give it a chance at a later time because it has great atmosphere.

Someone really needs to make an MMO with interesting combat. :|

Tera has good combat depending on the situation. PvE can be REALLY static if everyone knows what they're doing but PvP can be really good in organized 5v5-10v10, once it goes over that it feels like a cluster-fuck. Other than the combat and the great visuals, which aren't for everyone, it's your standard MMO. I'd still be playing it if there was more to do end-game.

Pretty sure you can get trials for both the EU and NA versions so give it a try.

Well I don't see how anything could go wrong here.

Subjective for sure, but I didn't find TERA's combat to be particularly good. Sure it's novel that they have real-time action-based combat in an otherwise WoW-style MMORPG, but the combat really didn't feel that good to me. If it were a single-player action game, for example, most people would probably write it off as a piece of crap. It's "good for an MMORPG," but that is just a compromise, in my opinion. I'd rather have DIKU combat that actually works well in an MMORPG setting than some weak action-style combat.

Releasing an MMO without mouselook/aim after Tera is really stupid. We need to get away from the archaic WoW control scheme.

From what I've heard he didn't leave the company. He said he felt overworked and transferred over to that Funcom/Lego thing.

Of all Funcom MMOs this one is the one that appeals the most to me. But even so I don't have any real desire to play it. I'll look at the reviews at least though.

Bad time to resign. Gives the impression that there's no faith behind the game when the game is actually pretty solid. It's not going to set the world on fire but I'm having a better time with it than I ever did with SWTOR.
Great atmosphere, story, missions, and character progression.

In any case, I too cant wait for the next Dreamfall.

The next CEO is the person who worked as the COO, it sais in the article.

Great game btw, really enjoying it. Atmosphere, quest and characters are better than any recent sp rpg imo. Smooth launch over the weekend for pre-order customers.

I am really looking forward to the reviews, what's interesting is the non fantasy setting, I am super excited for GW2 but I am kinda burnt out on dragons and stuff.

Where have I seen this before? Ah yes, IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover launch.
Tornquist should jump ship and kickstart Dreamfall Chapters. My wallet is ready.
Jump HIS ship? Yeah, totally gonna happen. But then again, Oleg Maddox did that.

Developers just need to create a really good game with mechanics that are enjoyable to play. The problem with most MMOs is that, even years after WoW, they fail to live up to WoW's basic fundamentals - control and accessibility. I once described WoW as being from the future, that Blizzard had somehow skipped a couple of generations of the genre and delivered something outside of its proper placement in time. And you know what? It's still true; they were so far ahead that others, even while copying them, cannot duplicate it.

That said, GW2 is pretty bad-ass and it would be a shame to see ArenaNet drop the genre. They won't because GW2 will do well, but in the far future I mean...
