I'm not sure hes a has been. He still sells out anywhere he performs, easily. His last few albums have been well received too. He was also in the public eye tons in the last 3/4 years.

Pretty much. Guy still makes good music.

Paul McCartney writing music, I can understand. It's the "for Bungie" bit that makes me want to dig out my "wut" gifs. I'd expect him soundtrack a slow-paced slice of life movie, not contributing to the soundtrack of what will almost certainly be an action game.

It'll probably be for the token "deep and emotional" Gears-1-commercial-esq scene.

Yesterday, all the Halo's seemed so far away
Now it looks as though the IP is to stay
Oh, I believe in the 360.

Suddenly, I'm not in business with Xbox like I used to be,
Now there's Actvision hanging over me.
Oh, I need an IP suddenly.

... or, in another more accurate way, yes. Paul DID write that song, he just didn't sing the lead (ringo did).

I don't really dig much of Paul's latest stuff, but the things he did with the Beatles were phenomenal. let's hope he's forced to collaborate as it's when he writes his best (unless it's with michael jackson, but i think we're pretty safe at this stage)

edit: beaten like i owe money

I wouldnt worry about it. They're not working on an album of singles. The game's score will be orchestral.

I've listened to a few early pieces from the crawl space below Marty's office, and I think it's safe to say you'll really dig this stuff. I'm a big fan of Paul and Marty and Mike's work, and when I heard the latest my body went all tingly and I couldn't stop smiling for a few days.

From the Bungie Day Article:
But enough about us. This is not the time for us to elaborate on our work in progress, either. You’ve already been treated to 27-pages of the most unexpected and innovative marketing since I Love Bees.

I love Bungie's ability to joke around, even in the midst of a massive leak like that.

Edit: Just saw the picture of Marty and Paul. Haha, awesome.

All you need is love, cash and fps?
Creepy combination. Waste of money.. Kinda ironic he is supporting a game about shooting people..... :|

A Kickstarter not successfully kicking off for Ground Branch & to hear about bungie pissing money away on Paul Mcartney to compose music for a Halo rehash #72 FPS game is just another reminder what a messed up world we live in.

This is probably the weirdest story I've ever seen related to video games. I can't wrap my brain around it. Is half the game's budget going to Macca?

Well this has made me automatically interested in whatever Bungie's next game is. Great job on taking me from not interested at all to looking forward to an announcement Bungie.

I seriously can't wait to see what you guys have cooking.. And hear it. So cool.

I'm all for the developers making the game they want to make. So if this is a creative decision they felt strongly about, good for them.

But if it's to somehow lure...fans of the Beatles?...into buying Halo...Well, I just get the feeling the only people that buy Halo at this point are Halo fans.

Gaf: Do you think Halo 4 will bring in new players? I don't...Maybe if this were a console launch or something. But this late into the game, I don't see it happening.

I'm still traumatized by "Kisses on the Bottom" commercials. Dear god. I think I heard one at least once per 5 minutes of radio listening, at least.

No, it's because Paul McCartney is pretty much a genius when it comes to music.

Ok, I'm starting to become a one man Paul McCartney Defense Force here. Time to sleep, welp.

They aren't making Halo?

Have you guys ever heard the music he does under the pseudonym Fireman? The Rushes album in particular is pretty grand. Get it "(The) fireman rushes (in from the pouring rain, very strange). It's all very experimental electronic music that seems like it could easily fit in a science fiction video game franchise...something like what Bungie might develop.

Here'
s a taste of that album, if you guys are interested. I think some of you might really dig it.

As a huge Beatles fan, going way back, and a huge Halo fan, I think this is a match made in heaven.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
He lived long enough to see himself become the has-been.

Except post 2000 he's released a string of great albums that have been really well reviewed. He's also been up for an Oscar nod for his his music, and he still sells out well EVERYWHERE.

I'd argue he's the exact opposite of a lot of older artists still just touring on their name only.

PS: Yeah his Fireman stuff he occasionally digs into is great as well when he finds time to do it.

Well holy shit.

I haven't heard of this before. I'm a big fan of the Beatles, but not so much on Paul McCartney's solo works. Listening to Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest at the moment.

So I did research and it turns out that Paul, Ringo, and George asked John's wife for leftover, unfinished work and completed Free as a Bird and Real Love in the mid nineties, around 25 years after their last official Beatles song in 1970.

My god, this is like when Chuck Jones came back for the last time to make original Looney Tunes shorts in the mid nineties after a long hiatus, the nineties had a surprising amount of classic revivals from the roginjal creators didn't it, I never knew this back in the day, just makes the nineties all the more special don't it? :)

Being a huge Beatles fan, I thank you very much for showing me that album. Pure genius.

I can't wait to see what Paul is going to do with Bungie. And hopefully it is significant.

Too bad Ringo isn't involved. A want another youtube impassioned plea over no more responses to fan mail.

hmm. I think this is interesting. Maybe they're bringing in paul because they want to add more depth to the game world, add some extra character.

One of my favorite things in stalker is the people playing guitar, I'll be interested to see what come out of it.

Bungie just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about the Beatles (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in England, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the english public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase any of Bungie's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Bungie has alienated an entire market with this move.

Bungie, publicly apologize and cancel your new game or you can kiss your business goodbye.
