June 2012 NPD Predictions - Closes July 9

The 3DS *should* see better results starting in July and then almost certainly in August.

July will have had the 3DSXL announced for the entire month. Goes into how well-informed consumers are, but it could have an impact. August starts Nintendo's "renewed push" for 3DS with the XL and NSMB2. August should be very big compared to previous months. July would probably be down from the June weekly average, I'd think, though.

Not sure if Mr. Pachter is going to put his numbers in for this month, but VentureBeat has listed his projections. I'm listing these as a guide for you as we approach the final hours before the predictions close:

X360: 225K (-56% YOY)
PS3: 145K (-48% YOY)
3DS: 125K (-13% YOY)
NDS: 100K (-74% YOY)
WII: 75K (-72% YOY)
PSV: 60K (Still Year One)

Mr. Pachter expects a 34% decline in software sales versus 2011, down to $305 million.

Noting here that he is reflecting the same bullish trend for 360 that some others have projected in this thread. Also a little surprised at the 80K gap between X360 and PS3.

Don't forget that your projections need to be finalized by 8PM EDT tonight, so if you're thinking about those last-minute adjustments... don't wait too long!

I don't maybe it's just pessimism, but I expect a completely awful month and the trend to continue until the PS3 gets a price drop and Microsoft finally drops the price to 150 for at least one model.

LTD Numbers
3DS systems - 5 million
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ~1 million
Super Mario 3D Land ~2.1 million
Mario Kart 7 ~1.75 million

June 2012
-155,000 Nintendo 3DS systems
-more than 150,000 units of the Nintendo DS family of systems
-nearly 95,000 Wii consoles.

Pretty sure that's all we have for June NPD so far.

MY GOODNESS.
It seems DS isn't really dead yet in America.

However, the PR say

For the second month in a row, Nintendo held a 75 percent market share for portable hardware in the United States.

So, if DS + 3DS = 305k = 75% of the total, this means a bit more than 100k is for Sony handhelds alone, PSP + Vita. So, with the hypotesis PSP did 20k, Vita should be at 80k.

Are you sure? I think we should wait for other HW to compare. I think also that ds sales so high and near to the 3ds ones is not so good in perspective.

3DS numbers are above what people expected, and are up YOY. DS is also very profitable.

They're not setting the world alight, but it can't be considered a bad month, particularly with the potential factor of the XL announcement taking a few sales away.

Which would be a modest per-week boost for Vita from last month (about 13K or so to 16K).

In reality, those DS numbers are a bit of a good news. It means people wants some handheld platforms, in the end. Just, the transition DS-3DS hasn't happened yet, something a bit typical for US, which is always slow in hardware adoption. Since August, things will change.

“The game lineup for Nintendo 3DS last holiday season was one of the strongest in our history. We’re poised to top it this year. Every week, gamers will have the best franchises in the world in a glasses-free 3D experience that can’t be found anywhere else."
Every week? I'm here for this.

I can understand that it's positive for the handheld market and also for Nintendo profits, but I also think that this transition NOW after one year and a half is taking TOO long to happen

Let's see if August with the XL and Mario will definetly change this status. And then wait for pokemon DS and not 3ds to come out...

It'll happen from August. In reality, it already started to happen since the pricedrop last year, otherwise 3DS wouldn't have such big numbers and wouldn't be the most selling of the two. But this needs to be accelerated, and XL + NSMB2 will do a BIG shake to the situation.

Not terribly unhappy to see that I was too bearish in my Nintendo projections. Good news that 3DS got back over 150K, and seeing legacy DS hardware still moving eases some fear about handheld sector weakness here in the US.

Wii almost at 100K is surprising. Graduation or end-of-school gifts? In any event, I maintain that a price cut to $100 should happen soon to clear inventory & prepare for the WiiU.

"3DS sold 125,000 units, down 13 percent" pachter
"3DS sold 155k+, up 40+ percent" reality

the 3ds knocked em dead in june

and all nintendo systems were up

Nintendo 3DS, which lets users see 3D images without the need for special glasses, has now sold 5 million units in the United States, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. With Nintendo 3DS XL, which features 90 percent larger screens, and New Super Mario Bros. 2 both launching on Aug. 19, and a holiday lineup that sees the Luigi’s Mansion and Paper Mario franchises make their hand-held debuts, the system’s momentum should continue through 2012 and beyond.

“Nintendo 3DS is entering the next phase of its life cycle with new hardware, new games and proven franchises. This milestone shows we’ve got a great foundation to build from,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The game lineup for Nintendo 3DS last holiday season was one of the strongest in our history. We’re poised to top it this year. Every week, gamers will have the best franchises in the world in a glasses-free 3D experience that can’t be found anywhere else. Add Wii U into the mix and it’s a great time to be a Nintendo fan.”

Other Nintendo milestones achieved in June include:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D became the third Nintendo 3DS title to sell more than 1 million units, joining Super Mario 3D Land (2.1 million units sold life to date) and Mario Kart 7 (1.75 million units sold life to date).

For the month, two of the top five and nine of the top 25 best-selling software SKUs play on Nintendo platforms.

For the second month in a row, Nintendo held a 75 percent market share for portable hardware in the United States.

Nintendo sold more than 400,000 total hardware units in June and saw double-digit growth across each of its product lines compared to May. This includes more than 155,000 Nintendo 3DS systems, more than 150,000 units of the Nintendo DS family of systems and nearly 95,000 Wii consoles.

once again everyone was all wrong on nintendo

Pachter being Pachter. I still remember he forecasted 125k for 3DS in August 2011. Yes, the price cut month.

Thank you, I'm gonna Google it right now, have been waiting for Andriasang to translate the Famitsu article, but it seems Anoop is not a big fan of Animal Crossing. :(
