I don’t understand how the DS and 3DS numbers can be that close. 3DS is flying off the shelves (best selling console, beating PS3) here, with DSi (and Vita) completely dead.

3DS is not beating PS3, 360 and PS3 have been quite ahead by a decent margin.
PS3 this month did 195k, 3DS 155k.

but iPhones, man

the DS Lite was sold like crazy at a $130 pricepoint so there's no reason to expect any pricedrop to $100 for the 3DS any time soon; as long as the software is there, the hardware sales should come

iphones are a challenge granted.....but the 3ds is doing BETTER than any nintendo handheld up to this point so.............

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I'd say the best lessons Sony should learn from Vita's disaster are

1) Meet with third parties and don't just suppose they'll come to you just since they had a good success on your platform...in just one territory
2) Do not wait one year after the launch of the direct concorrent
3) Above all, no ridiculous and masochists decisions like the SD memory one.

They're not terrible, PS3 has been the second best selling platform in the US for months, Sony just doesn't like to disclose their sales numbers (if they're nothing huge to brag about).
Being the second best selling console seems like something to brag about to me. Even last place Nintendo crowed about their dismal Wii numbers. But then again, at least one of their platforms sold decently.

I mean, this is from the same company that had a 20 ft PowerPoint that exclaimed that "the console war is over". Now we can't even get ambiguous percentages out of them.

Even if Sony ended up in 1st place they wouldn't brag about it I think. They're very sober after what happened at the start of the gen.

4) Don't make a handheld that costs $250

I can't decide if those Lollipop Chainsaw numbers are good or bad. They are better than pretty much anything else that Grasshopper has ever done but I have to wonder how much money WB threw into advertising for it and if they made that money back. One thing is certain, however. I really liked the game and hope a sequel is made!

I look at it like this; I don't see WB making a collaboration with Grasshopper of all teams to start pushing 500k units, let alone something like CoD-esque blockbuster numbers. All of their prior titles sold ridiculously niche amounts, most times terrible amounts. And the only reason NMH sold as well as it did was because it was in the right place at the right time (which unfortunately did not rub off on its sequel in the sales department).

Advertising can only do so much for a quirky designer like Suda 51. But since the game's actual budget was most likely dirt cheap, WB can splurge a bit to the point where the sales may be at least double or even triple the amount of Shadow of the Damned's poor performance.

At least I hope WB wasn't expecting to light the charts on fire with Suda 51 out of all people at the helm of something.

That's the reason imo, for them it's either 'we're totally dominating or we keep the numbers for ourselves'.
It has been like that for years even when their sales are pretty good relatively to the competition.

Nintendo is a more open company in this sense, their executives (especially the japanese ones) like to admit their failures :D Sony not so much.

There have been several months in the past where they've hit milestones and had other impressive numbers, and the PR was still extraordinarily muted.

Seems like the 99$ subscription 360 was a failure, great! now they have to cut the price. It's a 7 years old machine!(ps3 too)

3ds +8,4% after an enormous price cut lol.

uh no

the hope is a 2d mario, a remodel, and consistent exclusive localized software.

If the gba and ds did worse than the 3ds is doing now. I dont really see the need to hit the panic button
You're wrong about the GBA.
And the DS had a really shitty first year. The DS lite + nintendogs + brain training + NSMB combo is what made it explode.

This shows you know very little about Vita. The price of the memory cards likely has played no large role in the platform's sales, and Sony actually did go and meet with developers, both internally, and externally to build the platform.

We dont know European numbers do we? For all we know PS3 is beating 3DS here too.

Yearly shipment numbers we know about have 3DS at number one worldwide, IIRC.

Consider that the 3DS has had at least a roughly 200k monthly advantage over the PS3 in Japan for a while now

I’m not talking about US numbers obviously. I’m on the other side of the pond. Only commenting because the US numbers are a complete mismatch, it’s interesting to see how different things really are between countries/continents.

Brain Training?

Kind of scary what they HAVEN'T released yet for the console. And 3rd year seems to be the most important for them so I imagine some big announcements near the end of the year.

Also seeing LEGO Batman 2, Batman Arkham City and Amazing Spider-man makes me think someone screwed the pooch by not having an Avengers game out with the movie

Do you have access to Euro sales numbers or something like that?

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

industry overall was down 29 percent

Frazier also noted that Nintendo's been doing very well with its 3DS, even better than the DS at the same point in its cycle.

"The 3DS is still up nearly 25% over where the NDS was in a similar point in time after release to market, and has topped portable hardware unit sales for the last 11 months. I am excited by the content that is coming to market later this year, and to watch what impact that will have on hardware sales," she said.

cool beans

GAF keeps telling me that it's failing. Who to believe?

The 3DS is selling less than the PS3 in Europe. Or at least was during the first three months of the year.

The situation may have changed in the last three months however.

UK yes, rest of europe I think its 3ds. But we have shakey numbers
If you're using the banned site as was implied earlier then you have no numbers really. Just guesses.

THQ was planning too IIRC, but their implosion got the game canned. I believe Ubisoft is rushing some Kinect/Wii U shovelware title for the Blu-Ray/DVD release.

It's really odd to actually be able to post in these threads after years of lurking. Of course, the provided content in these threads isn't nearly what it used to be either, but, ah well, such is life.

Given the current state of games being combined across all platforms and the "top 10" list that we get being largely dominated by multiplatform games, it's pretty surprising to see Pokémon Conquest on there. Yes, I know, it's Pokémon, but, it's a departure from the series' typical gameplay, and is blended with a series that (doesn't seem to be anyway) as popular over here, didn't come out until a couple weeks into the month, and I had some trouble finding it even after it did get released. So, really wasn't expecting to see it up there.

3DS getting a bit of a bump too, will be interesting to see how the 3DS XL impacts that (before and after) in the coming couple of months.

I'm in Europe (Italy) too, but this is a NPD thread.
Fact is that 3DS is enjoying a great success mainly in Japan, US and Europe are contributing just decently but that's it.
We'll see how things will go after 3DS XL (I'm doing my part :D preordered one). If sales don't pick up in US and Europe they will quickly fall behind the DS sales track.

He is wrong of course. The lesson to learn regaring Vita in terms of Sony is that it never should have been made.

Maybe they should have asked them to make games too.

Well they obviously didn't get any good support or make any good deals out while they were there. If this is the best Sony could get 3rd parties to do they are fucked beyond belief.

It's almost impossible for the 3DS to keep up with the DS no matter what happens.

Vita being outsold by the DS?

Ouch... I'm not a Vita optimist, but I wonder if anybody can think of anyway it can rebound here in the States.

Not necessarily.

Keep in mind that the DS had already had 2 holiday seasons worth of sales by this point. Plus, the new 2D Mario comes out next month. I think it'll be fine.

If, for some reason, that fails--they've still got their ace in the hole in Pokemon.

True. Sony don't really seem interested in playing the numbers game anymore. Odd really considering if you look at known figures from US and Japan, plus what we know in terms of their typical performance profile in Europe and the rest of the world PS3 really ought to be beating 360 globally outside of the peak months in the NA market.

The 3ds compared to its other handhelds are doing phenomenally in each region. Thats all nintendo can ask for at the present time.

I mean will it life time outsell the highest selling portable of all time? Who knows Can it do better than the gba? sure why not..........

I mean all we can say for now is things are fine

I preordered the blue

what color for you?
