PlayStation Mobile powers a fan-made tech demo of remote play Left 4 Dead on Vita

Sooooo... I just played Diablo 3 on Vita. Holy shit.

Now if only I can figure out how to fix the FPS drop somehow (my PC is more than strong enough to run better I hope, just need to fix IP settings perhaps?).

For those who have it up and running, what virtual desktop protocol are they using ? Windows Remote Desktop, VNC or something else ?

I am wondering if someone can get this working with a Mac. That would meet my needs better. ^_^

yeah.....something tells me we'll need a new thread dedicated for videos / screenshots of stuff like this.

Can you still take screenshots while streaming? Because that sounds nuts.

Took a screenshot of Minecraft at 400x200 resolution, 400x200 capture area and 50% image quality.
imgur will have to do

Not sure why that black bar is there in the screenshot though...

Are you able to play with minimal lag?

Well, I'm not really the best one to answer this in this case, so take this with a grain of salt.

There is a bit of delay of course, if it's too much is up to the user. What I'm having a hard time figuring out though, is if you get more delay if you bring up the image quality etc., or if it's simply an illusion since I get a lower framerate then.

The lag can be a result of my system as well. And the fact that this is not a finished app, iirc.

EDIT: I should note as well, that Minecraft isn't exactly running perfect on my PC either with my current settings and shaders. But I am satisfied with this so far.

Here's a bad cell phone pic with the Vita running VVVVVV. It's a little janky, but seems to work okay, besides the fact that you can't move through text (have to use space bar).

Interesting piece of work, but still needs some refinement. It's an awesome start though.

The black bar is there on the Vita screen aswell, just not visible because the color melds with the bezel. The resolutions are a bit wonky, or rather the aspect ratios. Vita default aspect ratio is (960/544 =) 30:17 and the resolutions in the app are for 16:9 and 4:3.

Following up on my last post, I think that I would get better results if I had a beefier PC. I notice now that my PC is running a bit slower when the stuff is on. *edit* Oops, turns out I had an instance of Minecraft running in the background, which really makes my PC crawl.

Ah, I see.

I was able to get it running a few hours ago. Was not hard at all really. Tweaking the screen sizes and controls took more time. Once they get this optimized I could see myself using it on occasion. I mapped the controls via the L4D game menu. I made a quick vid I threw up on youtube.

I think we should experiment with seeing how much messing with the settings on the PC can alleviate such issues (if at all).

I pray that Sony ninjas stay hidden for now at least until the community can really flesh this thing out now that it's in the wild.

Nice work...you fun with your job eh?

How do yall get it to run at full screen? For some reason my Vita zooms in to the middle of my desktop.

windowed mode on PC, and then drag it until it fills the vita screen properly. At least, thats how I got L4D running full screen on the Vita.

At first i was going to encourage everyone here to not publically get excited about this with threads everywhere on many forums, just so Sony doesn't get paranoid again. But if you think about it, if this brings in sales for the time being, they would probebly push it let alone not care. Then they'll take it away down the road if it gets in the way of software sales or becomes a security risk.

I had to set my desktop and the game to 800x600 to get it to all fit. I think there is another way to do it though that allows for better resolution on the vita though.

EDIT: Skyline, oh ok. Ill try that next time I mess with it. Ill most likely wait for an update of the remote desktop app though. I just wanted to see if it worked and how well.

Has anyone gotten the Vita driver to work on Windows 8? It failed to install while I was installing the suite, and it's failed to install every time since then.

No problem.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to play around with some settings some time and see if it helps. I might be doing something wrong as others seem to have it run better than me, might have something to do with my network.

That's how I did with Minecraft as well.

I was trying to do that with some games but couldn't find the option, but i guess i need to enable windowed mode in steam settings before launching the game?

Edit-oh ok I'll try the 800x600 thing. I remember Crysis letting me do windowed mode....but apparently GRID doesn't have that option.

After entering the IP address, I'm getting a black screen. Vita, Dev Suite and Mobile SDK is all up to date so I don't know what's happening... :(

Yes, I am running the server app as well.

I've run up and down this thread three times, but I can't find anything besides a link to the SDK that guides someone to getting this working. In other words, how? I'm a bit stumped.

Someone throw me a bone.

Yeah I am. When running through PC, it works fine. When running through Vita, I enter the ip address and I see nothing; just the FPS on top left.

Do I require any port forwarding?

Shouldn't have to, are you trying to run a game? Wont work in full screen mode, need to run in 800x600 window for a good fit. Other than that I'm not sure :/

I see this popping up a lot in threads now.
You are using unreleased software, lots of shit isn't gonna work, never mind something done by one guy in his bedroom. You should have kept Win7 and dual-booted.

Back on topic, this could be the best thing ever.
The community can refine this shit, and there will certainly be more talented coders having a go right now. I would hope that Sony sees that this can sell Vitas, and the most important thing for any console is install base.
Installing now.

When I started I had no clue how to enter IP on the Vita.

What I needed to do was update the Vita app, and USB it so that the USB debug stuff got installed.

I just ran into this problem. I Exited and restarted the Vita Server app, letting the IP balloon pop up again. It works, I see this post on my Vita as well.

now go back to your PC and in the PSM Studio and the left side, right click VitaRemoteClient and choose "run with" and choose the Vita option.

I'm not getting a Run with Vita option. Everything is up to date as well.

You have to have the Vita app running, and then in the PSM Studio open the Vita Client Code, and then select Run. It should deploy the code to the Vita and pop up the ip config screen. Good luck.

This has the SDK and the mobile dev assistant (which you have to navigate to on the Vita to download, I'm not sure if you can find it in the store?).

http://www.playstation.com/psm/developer/openbeta/index_e.html

Then you just need the code on the mediafire to run found here --> http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=12455

Good luck.

USB connect your Vita and let it install USB debug. The third option should be there afterwards, and then you can see VitaRemoteClient in PSM Dev on Vita. Thats where you can enter the IP.

Played some L4D. Only have like 15fps on Vita, but after some mapping the controls worked okay. Ended up looking at the PC screen and ended up doing a decent job with the Vita as its control device.

The Vita could one up the Wii U promises if it gets official Ps3 software compatibility, making it an optional control pad for its games. If Sony's willing to develop features such as second screens for it. Using equip menus, typing XMB messages with touch keys...

That IP should pop up on screen as soon as you start the server executable and let windows accept it.

Nope. Nothing. Oh well.

Hmm, must be something with the security settings I guess. I think Ive also gotten sharing and remote control etc enabled within my network in windows as I'm also using DNLA.

If it could stream full-fledged PS3 games, I would be very happy.
