Six Sonic Adventure 3 domains mysteriously registered

sonicadventure3.info–have all been registered on or around April 22nd of this year by an unknown party, TSSZ has learned.

At present, all pages presently point to a default landing page, and nowhere near Sega’s own website.

In the past, Sega had a tendency to register domains for upcoming titles before a formal announcement, either in-house or via third parties, as a means to protect company IP. The way these domains were registered, however, gives plenty of cause for suspicion. This time around, the registrant is the French division of 1&1 Internet, a company primarily focused on web hosting. That is a change from the last three times a Sonic domain was registered. Domains for Sonic Generations, Sonic Free Riders, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 all eventually fell under the management of EuroDNS, where they remain today. Consider also that, even if Sega’s French division was behind the registration of these, the arm closed its doors last month, along with numerous other subdivisions of Sega Europe.

So, the pattern here doesn’t really match Sega’s past behavior–making the jump to an actual Sonic Adventure 3 in the works very difficult. But with the domains active for over three months, one would think Sega would have caught wind of it and take action were the registrations unauthorized. We’ll keep it under Rumor for now, but don’t hold your breath. Thanks to Sawnik98 and Sonication for tipping us.

UPDATE: Since this story was first published, we have found two more related domain registrations. One, sonicadventure3.fr, was spotted by tipster Bruno Guerrero via Twitter. We have also since found sonicadventure3.eu. Both domains appear managed by the same 1&1 Hosting division in France, and both appear registered around the same time as the aforementioned four. If this a hoax, it’s a very thorough one. We have contacts in France checking this out; if we hear anything more, we will pass it along.

Edit: Here's another one from a few weeks ago stating info for a new Sonic project.

“I’ll have some new Knuckles music as soon as Sega and I work on this new project for Sonic so stay tuned!”

Awesome if it's finally going to be made!.

No Sega. You already fucked up Sonic 4, don't piss on the Adventure series too.

Next thing you know they're going to fuck up Sonic Battle 2 and I'll have to dissociate completely.

Just stop.

Dear God, kill it with fire, nuke it from orbit and let rabid coyotes tear it to shreds. They had a good thing going with Generations, why shit up the franchise again by returning to the awful Adventure series?

I'd like to point out that Sonic 2006 was originally conceived as an "Adventure (3)" and Sonic Unleashed was even called "World Adventure". Calling a game "Sonic Adventure 3" would be even more meaningless than as calling those downloadable games "Sonic 4".

I normally wouldn't be happy about this but I thought Generations was very good. Cautiously optimistic if this turns out to be a real full sequel.

Well, we haven't heard about a mainline Sonic game since the release of Episode II...I think this could have some weight to it. Sega usually has a big game for the fall, so if their main fall game for Sonic is a re-release of Sonic Adventure 2...

As many had been expressing in the SonicGAF Community topic, I'm not sure I want this. Not when they're starting to really nail a good gameplay style with Unleashed daytime, Colors and Generations Modern (although Classic was pretty good too). The Adventure games were notorious for having wildly divergent gameplay styles for the sake of having them, even at the game's detriment. I'd much rather a new game in the vein of Generations, honestly, and let the Adventures stay in the past where they're better off, as far, far more pleasant memories of a better time than replaying them will reveal them to actually be.

So you want a Sonic only game?

I'm actively afraid to replay the Sonic Adventure series because there's no way it stands up to my nursed-for-14-years-nostalgia, but still hyped!

Sonic Adventure 1&2 were all about the Chao raising/breeding/racing. All those other dudes can get fucked.

Whats the point of this game if they've already retired Big the Cat as a franchise character.

They'll make a new character where instead of fishing, you do construction work. Just as fitting as fishing is to Sonic, no? ;)

I would love an SA3, but only if didn't replicate the glitchiness and other problems. I love the games and they had some great ideas, but they're flawed as hell.

This could be great (Sonic Colors was good and Generations ok) or horrible if they add non Sonic sections

That's basically what the adventure name means though, right? To me, Sonic Adventure 3 sounds like going back to the not so good ideas of the past, rather than sticking with the pretty good stuff they have going on now.

Took the words right outta my mouth.

At the very least, a Sonic World Adventure 2 with Sonic/Knuckles (which they had a start on with the night stages, but they need to make it move faster and more fluid, with shorter levels and Knuckles taking that place) would be a nice thing. Really liked what they started with that game and I want to see it improved upon.

Blaze was always the superior cat.

You can tell the people who didn't play Colors and Generations in this thread, and just came in to bitch because Sonic.

The game wouldn't even be using the same engine as 06 and the DC games, which eliminates a ton of problems right there

"MAN I HATE SHITTY FRIENDS SO MUCH."

(Sonic Adventure 3 rumors)

"OH BOY A NEW SONIC ADVENTURE I CAN'T WAIT."

I'm kind of curious what people think a new Sonic Adventure 3 will bring to the table. Sonic 2006, while not officially an Adventure game, shared the framework (and was amazingly shitty.) Sonic Unleashed was actually "World Adventure" everywhere but the US, and had the Adventure structure, but played solely as Sonic (normal and transformed), and was on a completely different quality tier from 2006.

So do you want a better game with better quests with the friends? Or did the Unleashed mechanics put you off? (People love to say it's boost to win, but that's like saying if you hold down the gas pedal you can beat any racing game.) What do you exactly want that would specifically justify an "Adventure 3"? Or do you just think after Generations, their level design skills are at a point that would warrant another attempt?

If you just want Chao Gardens, say that, don't say "I want Adventure 3!"

I wouldn't mind them taking elements of SA1 and SA2 as long as they borrow from the good gameplay ideas (such as Tail racing stages in SA1) and not from the bad ones (Knuckles master emerald hunts)

The problem is adding shitty Knuckles and Rouge stages is a much easier way to pad out the game. Generations and Colors were both short in comparison because of the focus on Sonic. Unleashed had the shit Werewolf sections to make up for it. The issue is Sonic fans will buy any shit that Sega throws at them so Sega has no incentive to actually give a budget to the games. Oh and if Generations failed it did so because they idiotically put the game on the platforms where the fanbase isn;t.
