Doesn't Nintendos digital download service for full games go live next month? Maybe Capcom have decided to take the plunge on localization now that digital only is a reality.

I just did this so fellow gaffers get a little bit more relaxed

And it worked. I thought the series was done here. This news was a very, very welcome wake up slap.

Please no. If anything give people the choice of going digital. But don't make the whole thing digital only.

Well, NSMB2 is going to be digital and retail, as are all future nintendo-published 3DS games, so why not Monster Hunter? That could be attractive to Capcom, a limited retail print run combined with digital downloads and free promotion and demos on the eshop, not many downsides to that.

Capcom have become very risk adverse in recent years and they clearly felt that the amount of profit they could make on MH to be meager. Possibly with the low cost of digital distribution and the reduced risk has changed Capcoms mind about bringing the series back to the west.

On the other hand, NSMB2 is going to sell like gangbusters no matter what platform they are using. I think Nintendo are using this game to gauge how much desire there is for digital downloads when offered a choice.

Of course, this is just all guess work - and Capcom just feel that the larger Nintendo market in the west is a better platform to re-launch the franchise from. Pity that Portable 3rd will likely never see the light of day over here. From what little I played, it was the most enjoyable version yet.

Sadly, it wasn't. Even though it had a lot of things going for it the game was way, way too easy. Tri was already dumbed down a lot from the older games in terms of difficulty but Portable 3rd was a joke in that respect. It was actually less fun to play it co-op than by yourself because the monsters would die way too quickly.

Speaking of capcom shit...

Still no any ace attorney news besides the movie might be released here on disc and not just select limited theater viewing?

What ever happen to phoenix wright 123 hd?

how about AAI2 (lol)?

You know at this point i don't even fucking care if it has online multiplayer, just give us something :(

This has always been my stance too. Solo'd MHF and MHFU, had a blast (ok, maybe not so much at MHF) doing it.

Tri online was certainly fun too but... it's not a dealbreaker for me. I mean, I'm not saying it wouldn't be awesome to have it. But it's no sweat to me if it's just not possible.

What would be a dealbreaker for me is exclusive digital distribution though. I don't believe in it and I don't think it's a good direction for getting the series on track on the 3DS.

The new community manager fits right in. I wonder if svenson mentored him.

Even if it was possible, how long can a person say "soon" every few weeks, and then go around and say oops, I meant the announcement of the announcement is soon.

What I would like to know from Nintendo fans is why are people getting upset that the PSP/Vita people want Portable 3rd? I have a 3DS and a Vita and will probably get MH4 when it comes out but that doesn't mean I have to be exclusive to it and can't want to play MH on my Vita too. You can only play MHFU for so long.

Who cares tho! they can stay mad. Portable 3rd is a possibility atleast it was REVEALED on Vita (localized that is). I think they just assume because tri G and 4 are the most recent that they have more of a chance lol I say everyone just import tbh

Wait, where did this happened? All I recall were just Nintendo fans getting upset at the MH3G port begging. Then again I don't follow MH threads close enough.

I would hope no one would because that would be awesome! However, it's kind of sad seeing people smack down hopes in here. Let people dream I say.

That's something I quite don't understand. The number one argument people put forth for Capcom not bringing MH4/MH3G to Vita/PSP is that it would split up the userbase. I find that completely ridiculous. The more platforms you put it on, the more sales you get. People who have 3DSs will get that version while other users will get the other versions. Never understood why there has to be annoyance from Nintendo fans about people hoping for at least a Portable 4th. /rant

Port begging is banned on GAF because it tends to derail whatever the actual subject of the thread is. It's distracting and it gets obnoxious when it happens repeatedly. There is no conspiracy from Nintendo fans, it's a blanket moderation policy that applies to everything. It just tends to happen a lot more often with Monster Hunter, resulting in a disproportionate number of bans.

Splitting the userbase is not some fanboy concern its a legitimate business reason for why not to release a MH game across multiple platforms. MH is a Japanese phenomenon that relies on local multiplayer to grow. Capcom doesn't want a situation where someone with MH4 on the 3ds can't play local multi with someone with MH4 on the Vita.

Oh I'm not arguing that because port begging in general is annoying.

However, how can Capcom even make that assumption without ever doing it? This is probably more a question for Sales-GAF but what was the last title Capcom released in Japan that was affected negatively because it was put on more than one platform?

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised

whilst i agree that there may be legit business reasons for going 3DS, MH is now split between 3DS, Wii, PC, PSP, PS3, X360.

I'd argue the other way really - putting it on every platform going doesn't split the userbase at all (i mean - in any meaningful way that would cause drastic issues) , it grows it. Infact, i'll go one further - having differing content built on similar engines for MH will mean you get a -large- hardcore buying every version whilst bringing in that platforms userbase.

Having 3DS and PSP or Vita or PC or Wii U or whatever Monster Hunter isn't going to cause half the issue people think it will.

Local multiplayer requires that all parties have the same system. If the game was released across two platforms there would be fewer people with the game on the same platform. The issues with a multiplat release extend beyond this one issue. For one, is it worth it? Even just a straight port of MH4 to the Vita would cost money and its not like there is a huge userbase on the vita at the moment. It also creates confusion about where the series will fall in the future. People don't like having to buy multiple hardware just to keep up with one series. Kingdom Hearts is a good example of that.

Churlish hat on here, but Capcom just made people buy a 3DS when the PSP isn't quite dead yet. I'm still stunned that Capcom haven't announced a PSP 3rdP G or a "Finale" edition MH for download only that busts the 2 gig limit.

Kingdom hearts has -still- sold well whereever it went - I don't think MH would be an issue either.

Thank you DCharlie. This is the point I was trying to make. It's already split up between all these different platforms. I can understand not wanting to lose money on a Vita version, but they can still put a version on the PSP and the 3DS and go from there. I think it comes more down to Capcom trying to maximize profits by putting each iteration on one platform at a time even though it would help to put it on more.

But this conversation has been had to death. Capcom was thinking about the future of the series and they picked their horse. The series isn't going back to the psp and TriG is clearly a bridge title.

Those platforms are irrelevant, Monster Hunter is only a sales force on portables and it's only ever been on one portable platform at a time. The reason it sells on portables is because it's a social phenomenon in Japan; whether you agree or not, Capcom seems to believe that exclusivity matters for this purpose. I'm sure they have their data that tells them so.

DCharlie

I'm sure they have their data that tells them so.

again - this is a repeated conversation and i'm sure there data would point to 3DS. Hell, given the current sales situation if I had to advise them i'd be screaming to put it on 3DS.

However, i'm still baffled at -not- doing a final PSP game. We're talking about a 3-5 million seller here pretty much guaranteed. If the Iwata story that Capcom went to Nintendo (...) is true then i'd see no reason for them to cut off a PSP version... or any version for that matter. It's Capcom who hold all the cards here and whilst i'm sure there's a whole host of wheeling and dealing done in negotiation i don't see why a major IP holder -would- nail themselves to one particular platform 'cross'

Personally? i'm pretty sure we'll see Monster Hunter of some sort or other on pretty much every platform at some point. Hmmm... maybe not the Vita, but everything else!

But yeah - i'm not contending if they HAD to pick -one- platform, they picked the right one in the 3DS. No doubt about it.

I would be surprised to see it on Vita at this point, but pleasantly surprised. The 3DS is inferior hardware, not just from a horsepower POV but there still seems (with the XL) to be some issues with yellow screens and scratching when closed (although it's not clear yet how big a problem this is).

The Vita is a dream of engineering, it just needs some fucking games that will move units, I am hoping for a price drop at Gamescon along with some new announcements / COD gameplay.

A port of P3rd or TriG would be even more welcome ofc, I just don't see it.

Well it's too late now, and considering the software sales decline several PSP franchises have seen over the last few months their decision probably ended up being a sound one.

I'm sorry but isn't MHP3rd the best selling MH title ever?

Not talking about MHP3rd, but a new PSP game.

And software sales for the PSP have been on a pretty marked decline this year, so if they were ever going to do a G version of MHP3rd it should have been released last year.

That doesn't matter. If there was a new MH for PSP, JP would gobble that up.
