XSEED posted it on their twitter earlier:

[Way of the Samurai 4 News of Impending Release] You can send your underwear clad ronin to run amuck on your PS3 on 08/21 @ $39.99 a la PSN!

NISA is publishing it in Europe, though there is no date yet.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I dunno why, but the price strikes me as pretty steep... given the digital distribution and that this smacks of being a lower budget title. So I guess I do know why.

Having said that, I'll be buying this day 1.

It does give me the impression this is more something SCEA forced than something Xseed really wanted to do, but that's to be expected after Orochi Warriors.

How is it connected to the other entries? I'd probably be waiting to get it if I bother though just because of Last Story and NSMB2, but I'm curious.

Both 2 and 3 were odd games, but with definitely unique features.
I guess i'll keep an eye on this too, at least until someone like R* decides to do a proper open world action Samurai game.

it's not really connected at all, but these games are honestly filled with things to do and are meant for multiple playthroughs.

Yeah. I'm interested in the game, but I'll have to give it serious thought before I buy it at that price.

I was actually thinking of picking up Way of the Samurai 3 before picking this up. I heard 4 was good, but is 3 worth going back too? I am all for quirky games, but I would love to hear some opinions before I jump in.

I edited in the odd image you posted for receiving enough likes!

Cheers, Vol. That image truly conveys the soul of this game, I believe. ^_^

Most PS3 games are around $59.99 or $49.99, so at $39.99 with the sheer amount of replay value it has I think it's pretty fair (but I'm obviously biased). Much appreciation for the day 1 in spite of your reservations about the price, Chacranajxy.

Been saving up Hastings store credit for this very day! Day one purchase.

Woohoo!

*Sigh* I'm going to have to buy this too... Aren't I?

Yep. :)

trust me from one yakuza fan to another. You'll want to play these games multiple times. Some of the times you can technically get one ending within 30 mins then another time it could take 10 hours or so just to get another ending and there's not like 5 endings, there's more. Also what you do in one playthrough affects the next.

3 was all right. Get it for cheap if you can. I liked the bandit route in that game.

They are not strictly linked AFAIK, but WotS3 is set in a much different time period, so if you like the general style and tone of the game, it's worth picking up both.

Oh god, I'm going to have to take your word now, won't I? Kenzan might drive me into a samurai kick, so this is definitely on my radar, and your appeal to my fickle, Yakuza-loving side has me interested.

An American company publishing a game on disc in Europe while another one publishes it in America as download only has to be the weirdest localization story ever.

Since we're talking about releasing obscure japanese games long after their original release, could we get Disaster Report 3 as well?

More reason to blame SCEA, or more reason to think NISA is insane. Guess it could go either way (or alternatively it's just easier to sell disc based stuff like this there due to being more concentrated, whichever.)

Disaster Report 4 was cancelled due to the Tsunami/Earthquake in Japan.
And i think for the same reason they also discontinued the production on older entries and killed the franchise.

A bit drastic if you ask me (they could've put the game/franchise on hold for a year or so) but whatever.

$40? That like too much for a digital release of a year old game.

but it's still cheaper than the boxed European version ( £39.99 in Amazon UK)and that one will get release in October.

:( :( :( :( :(

Yeah, I want the boxed version but not going to wait til October. I would have paid 59.99 for a US release at the same time as the PSN release and happily.

Ya goofed, Xseed.

Guess I'll just buy it on PSN and then pick up the boxed version from someone on the cheap later if it's not garbage like WotS 3.

Oooh, they priced themselves out of my digital downloading price comfort zone of anything $20 bucks or under.

Oh well.

I plan on getting this, but I'll probaly have to skip it day 1. August kind of snuck up on my video game budget with Darksiders 2, NSMB2, P4A, and this.

What did you do to it?

No idea. My ISP is kinda screwed up for whatever reason and is refusing to recognize my PS3.

Originally it wouldn't recognize my 360 either until I changed its MAC address to match my PC. Unfortunately from what I've read outside of modding the PS3's MAC address can't be changed.

^if this title's half of what it's said to be, some of ya'll are really gonna miss out with this criteria.

you could always wait for a price drop i guess, i just really kinda wanna support stuff like this, its highly possible future releases like yakuza 5 might be this route as well.
