Kamiya Twitter thread pt 2

Neogaf becomes what they hate and treat twitter posts as news worth discussing

Or Platinum. Atsushi Inaba came and flat out said Ninja Gaiden 3 sucked and that the beauty of being an independent studio is you can say stuff like that.
He didn't just say it sucked, he said it was a shitty game that couldn't be helped!

You know he is right that it is a ripoff. I just dont understand his moral annoyance when he made that one game thats constantly called a Zelda ripoff.

No, Okami has creativity and artistic integrity/vision. If you think about Kamiya as a creator/artist, then you'll understand his problem with rip-offs.

You know all this talk about Bayonetta and that Wii-U game, but why isn't anyone talking about Okami being a Zelda clone? I distinctly remember that one actually getting the same "ripoff" hate from nintendo fans. Like a lot of it.

the reactions by PS All Stars fans are nothing short of insecurity. the game OBVIOUSLY takes heavy inspiration from the Smash Bros. series, and that's putting it lightly. but does that mean it won't be a good game? of course not. the correct answer to something like this is "so what?", not "no it's not!" or "you haven't played it!" get a grip.

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Kamiya just made my day.

On a related note, it is very common to see twitpics of Japanese involving their food for some odd reason.

Which begs the question why waste his breath on a game he has no interest in and refuses to even play? Eh, whatever opinions everybody's got one yada yada yada.

...please think of what you said for a moment.

People were fine with the TMNT Smash Ripoff. This one just doesn't look that good and Sony should just cancel the game and have the developers work on something worthwhile instead of wasting their effort and time. They're having trouble comprehending what makes Smash Bros. good and are only ripping it off at a surface level.

People were fine because the team was suitable, it was until the Rabbids invasion ruining it.

This is a pretty painful thread to read. I hope the Bayonetta = DMC ripoff posts are joking.

From what I've played of PSASBR I don't really get into it that much, but it might just be the roster. The emphasis of supers doesn't do much for me, but it does make it a lot different from SSB.

Isn't that how most people are reacting? Also, the "you haven't played it!" is a reaction from people in the beta towards people who are saying that the game isn't any good or is exactly like Smash.

Of course it was inspired by SSB, the developers even said this. But it's its own game and plays a lot differently.

So his problem is with the art style and story? Cause gameplay wise Okami plays exactly like Zelda. There is no question that a large part of Okami was inspired by Zelda.

It's funny cause he's public, but Kamiya really is just an average gaf poster.

Thought I remembered him getting really heated about it being called a "ripoff."

The problem to me is that Kamiya thinks that is morally wrong being a Rip Off of a popular game.

Is annoying and a little dishonest

On the other side when people call it a shameless rip / game plays similar to ssb then what ?

I am not denying the fact its inspired.

What a load.

I fucking know this as Ive played Okami and have have defended it against ripoff claims for years.

Kamiya being dismissive over surface elements is exactly the same thing.

There's plenty of CoD-clones and quite some GoW/GOW-clones, the one time you pick a game that had no clones in recent years there you have him crap all over it. Maybe it's just him acting badass but it kinda reeks of bias.

How is it dishonest? What is 'morally' okay is not set in stone and is up for an individual to decide. He may think that, it doesn't mean he expects everyone to agree.

I'm sorry what PS all stars fans are saying its not a rip off? The main argument is that it's actually nothing like smash bros, which is completely true. But even so we all agree it's heavily heavily inspired by smash bros.

Not to speak for any of the other fans, but I think that's the consensus.

why? that's his personal belief.

Because he did the same thing with Okami. And you bring it to the next level when you call it "morally wrong". That goes beyond just an opinion of not caring for something.

Mortal Kombat is a ripoff of SF. Everybody boycott MK.

DOA/Tekken is a ripoff of VF. Buy VF5 and boycott DOA5 and Tekken Tag 2.

That last tweet he sent in the OT is so lame. Lame comeback. Wonder what he'd say if I asked him if he's just salty his games have been flops lol

I was just redirected through a chain of messages where he answers to questions about the possibility of a new horror game with a link to a previous message like that and reached the end. That was fun.

I don't see the comparison between Zelda and Okami apart from both of them being adventure games where you progressively get skills. You just need to see a picture comparison between Smash and PSABR to know that it's a ripoff.

Indeed. Everybody admits the inspiration came from Smash, but Zelda has spawned tons of games that obviously got inspiration from Zelda, including Okami, and yet get praised. This game gets mocked for it.

Hey guys remember that HUGE Dante!s Inferno thread?

BTW Dante's Inferno is literally what you call a ripoff of GOW...

On another note- Fat Princess floats? Lol

Other note - their are neutral attacks, and attack direction modifiers? Shameless!!

Whatever, he's obviously entitled to his opinion..though it may not make any sense.

Yes, the game is obviously inspired by SB. Who cares? Every thing is inspired by something. Street Fighter inspired different fighting games and they evolved the fighting genre. You can argue that many of Kamiya's games were inspired by Golden Axe. He must not watch movies or read novels, since most story arcs, themes, etc. stem from previous ideas. The Matrix for example, was a great movie that heavily borrowed themes and motifs. It's essentially another variety of free will v. destiny; or even head in a jar by Descartes.

Uncharted obviously borrowed ideas from other stories, gameplay, etc., but executed better than most games.

IMO, it's a very myopic view. Yes, you can always try to reinvent the wheel. Come up with something brand new. But you can also improve on something else and make it fantastic, and memorable on its own. I haven't played the game yet, but what if it's fantastic? What if the final game plays amazing, looks great, and is fun? I just don't get his type of thinking, and i find it disappointing. End of my rant :)

"The pot calling the kettle black" (at least Okami concerned)

Okami follows a Zelda like progression, but it is not really similar beyond that. The entire artistic influence and how it's used as a gameplay element was a main draw of the game and was wholly unique.

My definition of a rip-off is a quick cash-in on something popular. Sony could have done this years ago when smash was huge.

This game coming at the end of Sony's 3rd generation lifecycle is more of a fan and game appreciation than trying to capitalize on Nintendo's new hit. SMH

Who gives a monkey's butt whether PABR is a rip-off or not? Go look at the beta thread and u'll see many positive impressions. And from a fighting game perspective, that game is completely different than Smash. Sony might do good to the FGC more than Nintendo would.
