And to get it out there, I haven't really played SSB for more than a few hours since the original on N64. I've only played Melee and Brawl for long enough to find out how they'd changed (or not changed) and I got my fill.

Would you at least say you like SSB better than PSAS as far as execution?

Are you implying you didn't like Melee on the Gamecube? Because if so, your opinion is now invalid. SSBM is awesome.

Anyhow, this thread is crazy long. I'm looking forward to All Stars. My most anticipated game of the year to put it simply (even if some roster picks are going to be shit aka Lightning, New Dante). I don't understand the big deal here to be fair.

As far as I see it, I've got a good Nintendo smash up. I'm hopefully going to get a Playstation one soon with other characters I'm fond of too. I genuinely don't see how there's anything to lose. I welcome more smash ups in this genre. One of the great things is the characters and the party feel of the game.

I wouldn't mind a superhero style game like this either from Marvel and DC. Just include all the big superheroes and villains. It would be amazing.

Hopefully, Batman makes an appearance in All Stars. If shitty characters like Lightning and DINO are in, then the King of Superheroes can make his appearance too. Association is nothing, participation is everything!

It's like SSB if you slopped up the controls a bit and slowed things down. Also if you added in some overpowered supers that kind of ruin things.

I tried to like the game. I basically ran to it at E3 and camped on the station as long as they'd let me and I went back several times. It's just...not good.

What the dick man?
Have you even played it?

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion... but that's just plain wrong.

No problem with that! Even though I have to disagree with you.
Different people, different tastes!
I could play it now for 3 hours (*cries*) and I had more fun with it than with (it doesn't matter which) SSB.
Which proves that they're different in gameplay.
Some people prefer PSASBR, some SSB.
It's good to have a choice.
("Some people" here don't think so ;) And you now why! Seems like they're a bit scared *hides*)

I still don't think these games fall into the category of crossover fighter. As crossover implies that two or more properties are "crossing over", which is not always the case. Shrek Super Slam, Red Hot Rumble, Onimusha Blade Warriors, Rag Doll Kung Fu, etc. There is absolutely nothing "crossover" about those games. What differentiates them from traditional fighters are their mechanics, not their rosters.

These are a sub genre of fighting games that desperately need their own classification. Mascot fighter/brawler isn't the best but hell, it's better than "party game"

I thought that Melee was the best, but most of the people I played multiplayer with had moved on. N64 was during my high school days, Melee during my college years. So yeah, I unlocked the characters on Melee for fun, but I didn't play too much multiplayer.

I love how people accept unquestioningly - and even seem to support to an extent but definitely rejoice in - the idea that simply stating your private opinion on a game should mean you "miss out on future business opportunities". And the word "patron" and so on. Especially when talking about fucking *Kamiya*. (Where's the "free association" myth now?) Really, errr, "well-disciplined" thinking there. The way quite a lot of (I guess mostly young) people take corporate power for granted and even seem to approve of it is a bit scary.

Just to clarify, I personally love it when developers get a chance to speak their mind without being held back by PR and I don't believe that Kamiya's comments on PSASBR will have any significant, be it positive or negative, effect on his career. I mean, Gabe Newell made it to Sony's E3 2010 conference after flat out saying that PS3 is so bad it should be cancelled.

I really wish Sony let Naughty Dog, Santa Monica studio or SCEJ make a such a game, I think Superbot are seriously fucking it up.

lo hes just mad they are not going to use "his" Dante in the game. Also I would have a pretty short fuse if people asked me all day about how RE4 turned into DMC over and over.
I disagree with his comments though as not everyone of his games were original ideas either, more of a variation on a theme. Still he could be trolling just for laughs.

Keep laughing while Supershit takes the slot of a PlayStation IP character and gives it to some dumb 3rd party character who means nothing to PlayStation.

LMAO.

Stop, you're killing me, dude! You're hilarious! Everything you've said is so edgy and original! No one since the roster has been slowly revealed has said the things you have! Crazy!

Seriously.

The game is what it is. It's not for you. Cool. There's other stuff for you to play. Some people are fans of the characters revealed thus far, and some of the characters leaked. Some folks have problem with the cross promotional characters, some folks don't. I don't see why you should get so worked up over it.

I think the game is fuck awesome. You don't. Neither of us are wrong, but when we try and pass off our opinions as fact is when things like this thread occur.

At least you've played the game and made up your own mind. That puts you in a position much better than the kneejerk reactors who have yet to touch the game, and are basing their opinions off of some small game play snippets and screenshots.

I don't agree with you, but I respect your opinion informed by actual hands on experience.

I'm sure they're the ones that are making the deals.

Or you know possibly, that they're corporate moves with advertising/marketing deals and tie ins to help franchises (Bioshock stage in the game). Actually it's pretty laughable that you think SuperBot is making the decisions on which 3rd parties make it.

And you're the first negative impression I've seen (admittedly I haven't read a TON here on GAF), but you're still the first negative.

Guys you are still arguing!? "fans" of both sides stop arguing about that stupid statement, and I created this motto just for the sake of being true and sencere "It's a Rip-off but I'm still going to play it".

It is a rip off, and conceptually it's not a bad idea, though for me personally I've lost all interest in it. Proof enough for me that Sony without the third party representation (of which was a massive part of their success in the gaming industry) are really not all that special. There's not much 'All-Star' in this battle royale.

Come on, man. You're really overreacting to the third-party selections. Yeah, we all have the ideal third-party roster in mind, but you gotta acknowledge the reality of dealing with third-parties in this situation. They don't have the final say in who third-parties let them use, so they're just trying to do the best they can.

SuperBot goes to Capcom and says, "Hey, Devil May Cry is pretty important to the Playstation, can we use Dante?"

Capcom says, "Well we want something out of this too, so use new Dante to advertise DmC."

SuperBot goes to Konami and says, "Hey, MGS is pretty important to the Playstation, can we use Snake?"

Konami says, "Well we want something out of this too, so use Raiden to advertise Rising."

What would you rather they do? Potentially disappoint fans by leaving out these franchises entirely? Or do their best to please fans with what they can?

And then Ken Levine personally suggests that they use Big Daddy, representing one of the most critically acclaimed games of the generation... yeah, it's not really a Playstation character, but are you really gonna say no?

Different strokes for different folks, I mainly buy Sony first party games and am amped to try it out (karting is fantastic and I'm hoping that All Stars can hold the same standard).

I don't consider it a rip-off. So, no.

So what does the winning side of this debate win?

Of course the game's 'heavily inspired' by SSB, that's why I'm still excited in it despite a lackluster final roster. You can admit a game's something of a rip-off and still be good, that's what I figured most people had already come to grips with for this game. Too bad that Neilson rating thread from a while back seemed to be indicating nobody outside the internet knows PASBR even exists.

Well that's what are we trying to tell all those sony fans, but they are refusing some of them dared and said it will be better than SSB., TBH Sony had a chance to leave a memory on all of us but than they gave up on Crash and Spyro, and BOOM! all our childhood destroyed.

Nope, you can't argue against facts, and facts states it's a ripoff.

Not necessarily. What is a "rip-off"? This does not meet my definition. Rip-off should be reserved for imitations without creative differences (i.e. counterfeit products).

But I have to admit: Funny post!
I love these joke posts.

sorry you're losing me there

Also highly doubt PASBR reach SSB's levels of acclaim but previews and users in the beta so far have said it's great, and considering how many people probably wanted to dump on this thing when it was announced I doubt they're all in denial. People are jumping the gun and equating the label 'rip-off' with 'it's shit'. Stuff like Crash Team Racing and Diddy Kong Racing in the 90's were 'rip-offs' of Mario Kart for instance, but still introduced their own innovations, styles
and were vastly better games

You know that Smash ripped off the arcade game made by Namco? the game name is "The Outfoxies"....Youtube link!
yea but the catch here is that, the ones who worked on this game worked on SSB.

This looks awesome. Somebody should mix this with a little Killer 7 and turn it into a side scrolling bounty hunter game.

Conceptually it does seem like a bit of a 'rip-off' but providing Sony haven't just purloined the gameplay wholesale and the game isn't garbage, I don't see an issue. I'm personally only mildly interested in buying it at the moment but if post-release impressions are good and it has solid online play, I'll probably pick it up.

Not in the slightest, I'm just saying being a rip-off shouldn't be an indicator of quality. You said earlier you were annoyed people were 'daring' to say they prefer PASBR to Smash when I don't see anything wrong with that; all signs point to it probably being a good game, though how good is debatable until the beta's over and the final game comes out later this year.

No I didn't say it's going to be a shitty game but no matter how you see it, the game would never match the charm Smash has. Gameplay wise it's debateable but no matter how you go high or low you can't tell me that PSASBR characters are more memorable than SSB. characters. It's very possible that the game will be so awesome and I will buy it.

Why? Because you like the Nintendo characters more?
It has more charm for you.
Yeah, I will believe you that ;)
