Sleeping Dogs |OT| not releasing this would have been a True Crime

Make sure to download the HD Pack from Steam. The game looks amazing on PC. Hasn't crashed or had a single issue in the 2hr's of playtime i've put in it.

I've had about 3 crashes during my eight hour run thus far. The funniest glitches included no textures loading, the car soundtrack blaring as I walked about and severe twitching next to a health activation statue. Hilarity ensued in ways I didn't imagine!

speaking of the soundtrack, i was quite surprised by the amount of Cantopop/rap and Mandarin songs in the game including some random ones in the marketplaces. Very nice touch.

i also liked the radio ads where they have an entire ad in Cantonese. but there's no subs, iirc. that means most of you guys dunno what the hell he's saying.

Personally I'm loving the classical orchestra station. Just feels right with a car chase. Also they really should have more gunplay.

People actually play FPS's with a mouse? I guess it's just what you're used to but I can't shoot shit with a mouse to save my life haha

haha, fair enough :p actually enjoying the game much more now with the controller.

Anyone else getting crazy Tuco vibes from Winston?

They've implemented SSAO really, really well in Sleeping Dogs. It looks gorgeous. The HD textures are excellent too. A lot of the opening stuff at night during the rain is crazy good looking. Interiors of important locations are fantastic too.

The crashing is starting to get on my nerves but I am enjoying the game other than that. The PC version is gorgeous with the high resolution pack.

Both Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs on PC have been smooth-as-silk experiences for me (must be lucky). It's a great day for gaming.

Specs for anyone interested: Win7 64, i5 760 @2.8ghz, 6 gigs ram, 560ti

On a more related note, and as one of the biggest Grand Theft Auto snobs you'll find, I'm seriously, seriously impressed with Sleeping Dogs. From every standpoint - UI included. Granted I'm only a couple of hours in, but I'm expecting great things.

I shouldn't have bought this along with Darksiders II. They're both fighting for my attention and they're both awesome in their own ways. I'm getting a really cool Bully vibe off Sleeping Dogs. Loving the voice acting and the combat. My only real complaint so far involves vehicles. I'm more of a fan of GTA4's driving. Feels too bumpercar-ish in SD, and shaky cam pisses me off. Minor gripe though, because everything else is so damn cool.

the bikes are great. probably just as enjoyable to drive in an open world game since SR3, imo.

and once again, i agree about the shitty shaky cam. it's terrible.

Whats your graphic settings? I'm using nearly the same system as yours.

Just
went on my first date with Amanda.

This game is pretty awesome so far. August has been a great month for gaming with Persona 4: Arena, Sleeping Dogs, and Darksiders II along with Fall of Cybertron coming next week.

The only thing I found myself wishing is for a full cantonese dialogue track. Game would be much more awesome with that, and me having to read the subtitles like old times.

And game is great, my favourite small touch is the animation when you hold the handbrake while riding the motorcycle. It has that HK action movie feel.

i like the driving in this way more than gta4, it feels like every car in gta4 is a giant boat can't maneuver them at all.

15 hours in and having a ton of fun still

(playing on ps3, have had zero issues btw. no crashing, glitching etc at all)

In GTA4 when you hit stuff, you know you hit stuff. I hate how in SD you just kinda bounce off like nothing happened. Overall though I'm enjoying the story and the fighting in SD more than anything in GTA4. GTA4's driving + radio experience is still unmatched though. I also love the parkour style of getting around in this, unlike GTA4 where it feels like my character is a boat.

If anyone is giving into the hype post-launch, GMG has the game again discounted 10% off, combined with the same 20% off voucher from before (PCGMR-GREEN-SUMMR), you can get it for $36, including the preorder bonus DLC.

AA on normal, everything else is maxed. I'm staying at a consistent 55+ frames with those settings, and when I bump AA up to high or extreme it drops like a rock to a consistent 17-30. Not sure if that's normal or if there's something up that could be patched.

EDIT: and this is with the HD texture pack installed.

anybody know why the only option for 1280X720 is 120 hz instead of 60hz? I game on my projector and this is the only game that i cant select 60 hz and it causes it to be grey and washed out, currently playing 1366X768 at 60 hz and it looks great, not washed out at all.

i have slightly better framerate with a GTX570 card. so it seems consistent.

Thats actually one reason I prefer SD driving.. in gta4 if you just barely graze something you might as well have ran head on into a brick wall. plus it ruins the thrill of a high speed chase/getaway

Having a blast with the game so far. Just now realized there is a HD pack available from Steam. DLing that now. Seeing some having issues with it, Im only less than 2 hours in, but so far, I have had no issues whatsoever! *knockonwood* Running incredibly smoothly.

I'm really liking the driving, very arcade-y. The large arrows guiding you and clicking the left stick in to quickly select new missions is great too. I recently tried to get back into GTAIV with EFLC but I like the style of gameplay here more (for this current open-city itch).

Not sure if all missions will be like this, but I also like how the game automatically took me out of the car to fight then placed me back right after. Running around picking up packages and trying to get back into the car with dumb AI buddies is a GTA annoyance I can do without.

game looks gorgeous. Skybox not soo much. Towers out in the distance looks meh.

But now with folks playing a bit:

y'all ready to post what your Wei is wearing?

Also what skills trees y'all investing into?

Currently just wearing default stuff (enforcer dlc clothes looks kinda dumb).

Police: investing in the top branch, not really seeing action hijacking to be a common thing.
Triad: bottom row, but put 1 point in top for strike bonus damage.
Martial Art: going top row. Can't seem to get a consistent grapple on tougher dudes anyways, and i'd much rather go for an environmental kill if i can grapple a guy, so bottom tree seems like a waste.

The game is much funnier to play if you understand Cantonese. I like bumping into people and driving like a maniac because I like hearing the civilians curse at me in Cantonese. The Chinese cuss words are the the most authentic thing about the game.

you guys having stuttering or framerate issues should try changing to windowed. Not to play it that way but to check if the fullscreen issues are affecting you guys as well. Like I said I switched to windowed mode and I see no stuttering at all and the game runs at steady 60fps. If I play at fullscreen (same res, same everything, just fullscreen instead of a window) the game starts to randomly skip frames in some kind of pattern and it feels chuggy, but it's not a dip on the framerate. Weird as hell.

Seems doing this also fixed MvmntInGrn's issues at the PC performance thread, so playing in fullscreen might be somewhat borked on the current version of the game, at least for some.

That's awesome. i love it when games/movies have stuff like this.

edit: I'm also a huuuge fan of underground/independent label hip-hop/rap. Think Aesop Rock.

i just tried the benchmark windowed and still got stuttering and also really bad tearing, and much worse framerate somehow. same settings went from 40 minimum down to 29

Oh boy oh boy.

The Cinematic Orchestra and Bonobo are on the radio stations.

I love the shit out of this game. My year long anticipation levels have not been unfounded.

Yeah it's great to hear the little quibbles from the civilians. I mean, I know GTA and stuff has it as well, but it's fun as heck to be walking about a part of Hong Kong and hearing people say random shit in Cantonese.

I'd say my only complaint with the game so far is the empty road. I've had a few moments where turning around I can see only two cars active on the road. Makes the streets look barren as hell.

I was curious, does anyone who has played the game know if the map of Sleeping Dogs tries to get close to the actual topography of Hong Kong? Because the one map on IGN shows it as one big blob, even farther than GTA 4 was from New York.

A lot of positivity in this thread...ahhh can't wait till Steam unlocks the game for my country (no, not about to dabble in VPN shenanigans just to play games)

I'll echo the opinions about how this game would have been that much more awesome if it had a full Cantonese audio track. With subtitles in broken English!
