What about preorders? How did it work for the Wii?

Did Nintendo just go "well you can preorder tomorrow" and people just lined up at their local store?

I never pre-ordered. All I know is I was 11th in line and I gots mah Wii on launch day.

Pretty sure pre-orders were available as soon as they announced the date.

Haha funny thing about that. I was at a mall in the suburbs today and when i went into the gamestop there was alot of commotion about the promotional materials in the store. Alot of people were wondering exactly what a wii u was and when they could get it, but the gamestop employees didn't know enough info to answer all their questions. I don't understand why nintendo would put the promo boxes in the store without concrete info about the product. It just leads to alot of confusion

So fresh and so clean.

But seriously, how many negative Wii U topics have I made? Zero?

3.14

And counting.

Yea prob was like that I dont even remember, I just know I went to Gamestop the day preorders started and it was a line and I was also too late.

Then on Black Friday I was 2 people behind the last person to get a Wii, I was so pissed had to order on ebay for like 300 not too bad for how much Wii's were going that time.

It's all good. There's nothing to "read into" here. This is a video showing content expected to be in the Wii U version, which last I checked, looked just as good. I never said it was Wii U footage. In fact, before posting, I was personally assuming it was PC footage until stated otherwise.

If I had never seen Wii U footage of this game before, I probably wouldn't have posted it.
It'd be like getting excited over new Project Cars videos when we have absolutely no idea how the Wii U version looks. This case is bit different, wouldn't you agree?

Sure, I was more referring to other people here. Just trying to keep people's expectations in check a little or avoid some "XYZ for Wii U confirmed!!!" debacles.

Been lurking here and saw the ups and downs of a lot of good guys here. *exhaustedly drops empty whiskey glass on the bar, takes hat and pistol holster and goes for his horse*

Just in case any of you missed it:

If you're looking to get into the Assassin's Creed series before the third one comes out (so you can buy it on Wii U), they have AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations all for 75% off right now. The first one is not offered but in my opinion it is very skippable.

Edit: Though there is a continuous story throughout them so you will kind of miss the beginning if you skip the first. Also, this deal appears to be today only.

So, do we know what the specs are yet?
Seeing as large as well as small developers have access to dev kits, you'd think there'd be more leaks out (or maybe I've just missed everything).

No, but the GAF experts have concluded that the CPU is made of dark chocolate and the GPU is powered by gnomes.

Apprently shovelware = casual game, now? Or did I miss a memo?

Care to point out where did I say casual = shovelware?
when I said shovelware I wasn't talking about it being "casual" it was more focused
on this specific game's novelty/purpose in general.

So I've not looked yet, but sounds like that EG thread didn't get locked ?? That's some lame moderation!

edit.

Apparently they were two separate interviews; IGN got a tech guy, EG got the marketing man!

I think that many people are already happy with WiiU's launch line up.
And are praising what Ubisoft is offering out the starting gate:

Best selling AAA title Assassins Creed
Exclusive eye-popping game of one of their most legendary icons Rayman.
Exclusive revival of the survival horror genre with ZombiU.
and more.

For him to say that the good stuff is around the corner, must mean
he probably has seen what Retro is working on, or maybe a 3D Mario, but also,
he might be really happy about third party support for 2013.

idk.. maybe

couldn't care less about sales

Its these small games that bring the $$$ for
producing the experimental games, new IPs, and AAA titles.

For Nintendo to stay healthy, and be able to compete, they need
these titles to do well.

But, I guess if you dont own stock in the company, you should never
care about sales.

ONM is teasing new info just around the corner, after the Gamescon. Shockin is teasing the expiration of the NDAs. Capcom is teasing info on their (weak?) support soon.
If nothing will be revelad within the end of August, I'll be disappointed.

Probably a preview of Just Dance 4.

The thing with expiring NDAs is that it doesn't guarantee publishers/developers will talk about their games, as these were Nintendo's NDAs rather than their own. If they feel their in-development titles are still not ready to be shown (for a multitude of reasons), even though Nintendo has said the publisher wide embargo is over, they won't show them.

You know what Nintendo likes to do? Never reveal the full contents of their games.

They will leave at least a pair of them not detailed further than "hey it's related to franchise X" (which I believe the GameXplain guys did months ago already) until right before release.

You should have given yourself a NDA untill it's release. I did :'D

It taught me a valuable lesson. I do that a lot with games I love, but usually Nintendo is pretty good at holding back info. I remember a lot of Twilight Princess was spoiled, but it was mostly up to the second dungeon at most. Much of the game was left a surprise.

That fucking website for Skyward Sword. Man, they spoiled pretty much everything. The dungeons, the items, the enemies, the story, the gimmicks, the characters: everything. I should have had more self restraint as it was pretty obvious early on they were going to reveal too much before game came out.

Alas, lesson learned. Never again, Nintendo.

This.

If there is anything new it won't be for launch (unless Call of Duty is talked about) but maybe teases of things that will come in the spring. Even if that happens it won't more then a handfull of things. I could care less if anything from EA and Capcom is talked about at some point though. I'm done with both companies as far as games from them. Tired of the carrot baiting of Capcom and just the bs in general from EA.

Edit: I do welcome any information regarding games from Ubisoft, Activision, Square-Enix, Bethesda, THQ, Warner Bros, Sega and some the smaller and lesser known companies.

I've learned to resist that by just ignoring the game's promotions and info, that big trust I have for these games :D, i've skipped most trailers I only read a few interviews loosely but i skipped most of the details miyamoto was answering , i didn't knew when it was coming out until my friend chat me about it a few days before he would buy it going to home from abroad picking it up during the way back.

... since they are apparently having serious trouble with HD development or are beyond arrogant at this point.

If you don't recall that statement then you're spreading false claims.

Iwata said last year HD development is not an issue at all. Iwata specifically said later that not all titles need to look as good or necesity to change the visual style.

Yeah, this is the best approach. I suppose it's relative to developers. Like, BioWare I cant fucking trust at all, so I know if I want a BioWare game I don't bother following the promo material because good stuff will be spoiled. Nintendo, on the other hand, I've felt have been kinda like Valve, in that they're pretty cautious about their promo and marketing work and have always made sure to keep a vast majority of the game a secret.

Skyward Sword seemed well out of the norm to me. I was very surprised at just how much they gave away.

I'm sure Nintendo had enough $$$ to kick their brandnew homeconsole into life with more than... well, absolutely nothing other than these crappy low budget efforts that can flop horribly for all I care. These, and some up-port of a Wii game that has been in development since 5 years...

Ugh, I can't believe Nintendo spoiled literally every dungeon (except the last) and area in Skyward Sword. I think I've seen every boss, too, thanks to trailers.

Never again. T_T
(It'll happen again.)

I just hope that they learned the lesson.

It´s ironic that a company with an insane sense of secrecy spoiled a Zelda game so vilely.

Smash Bros. DOJO!!

I know you want it to come back haha. What a mess it was each month with each revelation, people would go nuts. More when Sonic was revealed there, haha.

This sounds a lot like you're angry that Nintendo isn't focusing on graphics alone for every single Wii U game. Assuming that equates "they can't do HD"?

The fact that NSMB U, or Nintendo Land, or Pikmin 3 don't use the visual technology of Crysis 2 does not make them 'crappy' games. The vindictive attitude over titles like that is misplaced.

There are obviously going to be Wii U games that are 'big budget' in the way people want to see regarding Dat Graphics. Retro's games. 3D Mario games from EAD. Zelda. And more.

Did Nintendo frustrate some people by not coming out with a demonstration of at least one 1st party game that was appropriate to show off graphics technology? Yes. Because people have been rather fixated on Nintendo + graphics for six years now. Or rather, Nintendo + graphics technology - since the tech and the actual visual package of a game are not always the same thing. Pikmen 3, for instance, looks lush, appealing, and runs at 60fps.

But in the end, it seems Nintendo is focusing on launching Wii U with titles that fall in the middle, rather than all 'causal' (how that word has been abused) and all 'hardcore'.

It's just too bad for core gamers that many no longer consider 2D Mario a core game, or a significant series. (The sales disagree.)
