Wii U Community Thread

In reality, I more think this generation has hit a LOT of critical thresholds for visuals holding up over time. Most of the remaining visual blemishes are purely related to IQ. Lack of AA or poor AF, banding, low res and washed out textures. If Wii U's hardware merely cleans up what this generation sorely lacked in, you're going to see some games that look god damn great.

I know im really late but i had to quote this part. (great full post by the way).

If all Wii U turns out to be, is high end current generation graphics like Assassin's Creed 3, but with native 720p resolution, locked at 30 fps with no slowdown and some more AA along with rendering the game a second time in some instances on the gamepad at 480p then i think we should all be happy with Nintendo.

I have never and i do mean ever read so much negativity about a product pre launch in my life online, the Eurogamer article with the Sonic Karting guy being misquoted and then the 100+ comments at the bottom was some of the worst i have seen.

People really can't except that Nintendo will have the most powerful console on the market, even if it's only for a year...

I don't like to generalize groups of people and i own both the PS3 and 360 myself but those 'HD twins' fanboys are unreal, they are already getting three massive exclusives each in 2012 / 2013 (Forza, Halo, Gears - God of War, Last of Us, Beyond) along with every major third party release and they are still not happy unless their console is at least the same power level as Wii U.

I sometimes wonder why i read anything Wii U related outside of this thread, the general forums are one thing but the Nintendo hate is starting to now spread to almost every major gaming site and even news stories on Yahoo ect.

Maybe it was the same for the launch of the original Wii, 360 and PS3 but i wasn't much of forum poster, reader in those days.

The point im trying to make is despite the tsunami wave of snarky comments, put downs and abuse the console is getting just now, be patient.

We are now under 3 months from launch, we have two Nintendo Directs and hopefully a Wii U special event to look forward too and of course the launch date, games and price before the console arrives.

We are in the home stretch, it might not be in 2012 but when Retro, Nintendo EAD and the other major first party developers show off what a game built from the ground up for Wii U looks like combined with the modest leap in power PS4 and 720 provides over Wii U, a lot of people with big mouths are going to look very, very silly indeed.

HOME STRETCH HYPE !!! :D.

Believe in Nintendo, they have never let us down before and i don't think they are about to start !.

I agree with you, a lot of people are saying right now "well of course the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3/360 but when the PS4/720 get announced the Wii U will be nothing", those people will be disappointed in the end.

About the hate, recently now Sony has been getting hate, with the Vita and the "is the PS4 going to be Sony's last console" statements, the only company that doesn't get too much hate is Microsoft.

Edit: also Pineconn right, Nintendo has disappointed people before, recently it was E3, but Sony and Microsoft has also disappointed.

You know what kinda annoys me?, when people say "I'll buy Wii U just for Nintendo games", that's the claim some devs say where "Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo games", buying only Nintendo games does not help.

I'm buying the Wii U for Nintendo quality games.

How's that? Any developer is welcome to step up and deliver.

I can just tell you now that there is no "hopefully" in regards to a Wii U special event. It's going down.

What leak specs are you referring to by the way? You mean this?
http://www.vgleaks.com/world-premiere-wii-u-specs/

And it's an API (think Opengl or Direct X but specifically made for Nintendo hardware). There's no good or bad without knowing the insight behind it (which there is little to no information).

Oh, HELL no! *Loads Shotgun*

Metroid may make a return if Nintendo and Team Ninja figure out the best way forward for the series, Dead or Alive 5 director Yosuke Hayashi has told VG247.

We quizzed Hayashi on the matter of a Metroid: Other M sequel at gamescom, to which he replied “Unfortunately Metroid is kind of out of our league as it’s Nintendo’s game, but we’re still in close touch with co-creator Sakamoto-san, so we want to do something with him moving forward definitely. It really depends on what he wants to do with the game first.”

http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/17/metroid-team-ninja-wants-to-work-with-nintendo-again-hayashi/

I'm totally fine with this.
Despite the story (something that's on Sakamoto) in Other M and its linearity (most likely due to space on disc) Team Ninja did and amazing job with Metroid. The mechanics, graphics and gameplay overall where top-notch. I really loved the third person perspective and they really should use it more often in Metroid games. We'll see, something tells me the next Metroid is in the works :p

Good for CoD and Nintendo fans...
some IR pointing love, maybe? it seems invaluable for shooters

It's also got some nice particle effects and depth of field.

Look at those particles!!!!
so it definitely runs Unreal Engine 4!!! lolololololol

Two more WiiU game Rumors Need for Speed: Most Wanted and F1 Race Stars - He claims its not a rumor but a fact tho lol, He does say what he think is the release date is speculation tho.

http://wiiclube.uol.com.br/blog/2012...ncamento/73671

"Ok, I promised on Facebook and now it's time to open the beak: I learned two games that have not yet been announced for the Wii U, but will leave that to the console when it is released. The games are Need for Speed: Most Wanted and F1 Race Stars ."

Yea Codemasters Dirt and F1 was listed last year but we have not seen anything of them, and NFS has been rumored for a while along with EA's Medal of Honor, maybe they are holding off on them cuz they are coming out later then the other versions as in next year not like ME3, Madden and Fifa idk.

From what I know, NfS and F1 are very possible.
Other games (such as MoH and Dirt) probably will not hit the Wii U for the moment.

C'mon EA!!!
confirm Need for Speed already! >:C

You have no idea how much I disliked that game. If I could have a GAF tag, it would be " Still trying to convince himself Metroid: Other M never happened"

Yeah it's Nintendo's fault for making the quality stuff; it sucks but I can't blame people who think like that and are comfortable with that kind of consumer mindset. Other companies need to step it up :p

I didn't mean it was bad but if less third party games get sold that means less third party support so less games, it sucks Nintendo has to be punished for making good games.

Other M bombed hard. I don't think we'll see a new Metroid game for a while, unfortunately.

Well, it did a little below the average Metroid numbers but nothing to be shocked about.
and well, expect the unexpected from Nintendo. After all, Miyamoto said back in E3 that he wants a new Metroid (and StarFox) game on Wii U so why not? :p

I love original SF music.

It's the one thing the series lost that I wish it would get back. Kondo is good, but the original StarFox music was GODLY.

This thread needs to start moving faster, I keep going to Gaming side and see shit like this slide: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=487582

... on top of other things. I'm sure someone's already reported it to mods, right? If I don't see it shut down by morning, I think it's safe to say something's up.

Other M didnt bomb hard, it sold 1 mil units, it did basic Metroid numbers

Bombing hard would be if it did under 400K

There will be Metroid in the future

It sold <500k in North America. Can't imagine it sold another 500k worldwide. Reggie was pretty pissed about it in a post release interview, and the game is selling for like $5 at Best Buy right now. Certified bomba.

edit: maybe those numbers are higher after the massive price drops, but I don't think Nintendo is happy about it.

why? I'm seriously asking
the game wasn't that bad, c'mon!

I'll back you up on the Other M thing!

Gameplay was pretty effin' awesome aside from the heavily guided nature of the progression which was dependent on the story. The story itself (basic plot) wasn't bad either, the storytelling and presentation of it was what sucked.

The way the game handled even with only a D-Pad--locking the player into a 2D lane and opening up the depth in 3D movement in open areas and that seamless switch to first person--was pretty impressive. I seriously don't get the hate. Sure, the analog stick would've been more comfortable but you really didn't need it for the way they made this game.

The game definitely hit 1million+, but it's been on sale a long time. I got my copy for $20 way back, and I see it for less here and there. $5 sometimes even like you mention.

Shame. It was a good game that was criticized way to harshly with respect to its actual flaws (which it had)

The 360 GPU is better than the PS3 GPU, so yeah, this chart is pointless.

The chart is pointless because clockspeed only really tells you something in combination with other things.

In context, though, I believe RSX has a higher clock (550MHz to 500MHz) than Xenos.

What the fuuuuck? If this is correct, then the GPU is sitting at a clockspeed of 900MHz in that case. The engineers of the Gamecube must have gone Super Sayian to deliver something like that.

I don't know what the source is for the data, but if it's true, then it cannot be a 40nm GPU. It'd be too hot in that box.

you could've mentioned that this is from the game's facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/stellarmorph/info

https://www.facebook.com/pixelent

excerpt:
Take control of the D.R.A.C 01 and plow through the depths of hell. Star Beast takes you across a barren earth, through space, and into a hostile alien planet. Our team at Pixel Entertainment is hard at work producing Star Beast, an innovative 2.5D horizontal shooter which will change the way players think about the genre, for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS. Taking influences from Gradius, R-type and Nanostray, Star Beast is a game where players pilot a ship on a mission to secure the survival of the human race.

The page is pretty old, they made that in July 2011 and I don't really think the platforms are accurate anymore with Ms. Trahan's LinkedIn page mentioning PC, WiiU and "mobile platforms." Though that could still include the 3DS. I doubt they're still doing a Wii(ware) version, though.

Pixel Entertainment seems to be some small funding initiative (for movies and stuff as well), they're basically publishing the game with a target for mid-2013 according to the facebook page.

I just found this on Giant Bomb ...

apparently the people at Monolith are just as goofy as everyone else on the internet ...

this is the Xenoblade save-icon in the save data menu (have not confirmed it myself, maybe it's only for cleared saves)

just a thought seeing as these e3 leaked specs are being talked about again: Any reason the spec list would show audio dsp clock speed but not cpu/gpu?

If not, is there likely any correlation between audio dsp speed and CPU clock speed (ie does it need to sync or anything, like memory/cpu does in a pc?)

I am actually pretty excited about the launch for Wii U. I mean, as a Nintendo only gamer; the launch seems pretty good.

I am definitely gonna get Mario. ACIII, Batman and ZombiU are also on my list. And if Team Ninja/Nintendo manage to improve Ninja Gaiden 3, I'll definitly pruchase that one as well.

Much, much better than the 3DS, Wii and DS launch if you aks me.

Wii U, Classic Controller, Rayman, Pikmin and ZombiU for me. Maybe Darksiders II... but I'll probably get it for the PC in a christmas steam sale.
