LTTP: Rival Schools (Its our school, we must protect it!)

I discovered this fighting gem a couple months ago. The gameplay has aged really well, its fun to play and has a lot of crazy characters. The game is about bunch of Japanese high school students, teachers school nurses fighting it out. There is even a real life band called Rival Schools.

I hope Capcom revives this franchise, starting with bringing the game over to the Western PSN stores aswel as HD remastering the Dreamcast sequel Project Justice.

I always thought the character design was really good.

Akira should be in every Capcom crossover game possible.
Why she isn't, I have no idea.

I really liked the variety of crazy looking combos you could pull with various school athletes. It was all so very over the top in a good way.

The character designs seemed basic and straight forward, with just about each character following a 'theme' or character type/tropes.
From what I played of RS1 and RS2, the gameplay seems pretty simple and basic.
IIRC, there IS an arcade ver. of RS2 in Japan, would be cool if they could port that to PSN and XBL.

One of my favorites for sure. It's just a damn shame that the rest of cast is overshadowed by the most boring, generic character one could ever hoped to create.

Gorin High School is best High School.

I played the demo that came with some other game like 100 times. Never saw the actual game anywhere but the demo was excellent.

I think that was a great choice. Playing with cliques in a silly way made for really memorable characters and schools. The problem is that Tech Romancer, not Justice Academy (nor Star Gladiator), was built for early 3-d. They really couldn't make memorable fighting styles or moves because of that, so it depended on flailing more than it should have. The gameplay was tight by Burn/Project Justice, but I think it hit the wall.

Project Justice is the way to go. It's one of the best fighters on Dreamcast, and that's saying something as that system has its fair share of them. Just super creative and silly too. I personally like Tech Romancer more from a Wacky Capcom standpoint, but you cannot go wrong with PJ.

I actually imported the JPN to accompany my US one just so I'd have everything.

The only fighting game I was ever decent at.

I assume it's not import friendly?

If I recall, the JPN version had an RPG or dating sim mode or something that I always assumed was text heavy.

Ha, funny timing, I just ordered a used copy from an Amazon seller ast night. I loved this game back in the day. Can't wait to play it again, this time with an arcade stick.

I think Itsuno says he wanted to make a sequel for Rival schools, he also said he would like to make a fighting game in the more recent interview.

There were some great extra features in the home version. Lots of cutscenes and gimmicks to find. Really liked the disco ball effect when doing a super. Roberto and Tiffany all the way!

I still own my dreamcast primarily for Project Justice... Would be a nice HD remake honestly

You would not believe how much time I put into Rival Schools back when it came out. 2 discs as well; packed to the brim with content. That's how Capcom used to roll.

Yes. But there are guides that can help with that.

If you're going to play a version of Rival Schools than the PS1 sequel is the best you can get. The 1st 2 PSX games do work hand in hand with some transferable save features if you're into that stuff. The extra minigames they added to 2 are at least worth a look though.

I would suggest just skipping to Project Justice. You lose Sakura and Raizo but gain so much more gameplay wise and Yurika & Kurow.

Again, the JP version is superior because of the board game and bonus costumes for Hinata and Bowman.

JUST PLAY IT!!!

Fun games. I believe the second PSX game was only a sequel to the Evolution disc.

Project Justice was completely awesome. I actually liked it more than Soul Calibur because it was much more fun to play against other people.

I really liked Batsu in TvC, I've been wanting to play this as a result.

Burning Batsu is where it's at.

The color palette for project justice was just awesome as well

I miss playing as Shoma and I think her name is Ran, a distant relative of Dan Hibiki... This series is also in the SF universe which means its in the Final Fight universe, which means its awesome .

Confirmed Asshole
I only ever saw a demo video from one of those black demo CDs that came with a PlayStation. Looked cool.

Well, this, combined with the sillyness of some of the moves is what made most of the appeal of the series to me, actually :p

I still think the entire dreamcast library makes too much sense on the Vita

Really, the entire PS2 hits library makes far too much sense for the Vita, but this isn't a Vita thread.

Rival Schools would be perfect on a non-console platform. It doesn't require an A-team for development; A-team could focus on Darkstalkers or whatever it is Ono has hidden up his colon.

Yes! I love Akira! Stupid Batsu taking a slot in TvC. Should have been Akira! Though it was really cool of Capcom to make a Kyosuke sprite for CvSNK2. But again... should have been Akira.

I didn't like Project Justice as much. Felt too slow and less air-comboey.

I remember this from my friend's house but I never actually played very much of it. Always seemed cool though. Of course this was during my hit buttons randomly stage of video-game playing.
