Wow, Rock Band Blitz seems like one of the sleaziest packages ever with that facebook and dlc stuff. Surprised they went so easy on it

What's sleazy about the DLC? The only reason I'm getting the game is because all the DLC songs I already bought will work with it.

The fact that, when your friend challenges with a song you don't have it'll do the 'hey maybe you should buy this'. Also, of course they made the dlc songs compatible. This game would not sell if they didn't do that.

I might be on my own with this but Rock band without instruments sounds utterly pointless to me. I had great fun with friends playing Rock Band, mainly due to having instruments and having a laugh. Now they have stripped that all out, the redeeming part of Rock Band is now gone.

Ho hum. At least the previous games work.

wtf is this shit? since when do you need to be a rocket scientist to learn the rules of a new rockband game? jeffs explanation at minute 8:00...wth?

Oh jeez...you're not kidding.

because DF's games all suck?

Not saying that the DF games sucks but there's no reason to have that much coverages on those games other than they are friends with the DF Guys.

But hey, it's their websites so they do whatever they want with it and at least the DF guys are really cool and funny so it generaly makes entertaining videos.

lol I thought you were joking about how jeff was explaining rock band, but nope. Why couldn't this game just be simpler?

yeah the Facebook stuff is hardly as nefarious as some are making it seem. It's just an extra way to get coins. From what I understood, you can do everything in the game without ever having to touch Facebook.

Sounds pretty harmless to me.
Besides facebook challenges to earn coins (some impossible to complete without buying specific DLC), there's posting on the facebook wall to urge your friends into buying the game, and achievements that can't be done without owning a pretty high number of DLC songs.

I like how in recent quick looks Vinny and Jeff both tell him to hurry up but he doesn't lol.

I don't know about yall but I prefer QLs where they just jump into the game immediately, and go through the menu stuff at the end.

This is just so exhausting to watch.

So are all the instruments playing at all times or do they stay silent like in Amplitude until you activate them? This doesn't look very good, which is sad. I wanted an updated Frequency.

And holy shit, SHUT UP RYAN

Nothing wrong with having an extra 100 achievement points based off DLC. Many games do this. You still have 400 points that require nothing but the included tracks.

Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery had twitter integration. It was completely optional, but when I saw "Tweet and you will be retweeted" blatantly in the game, it pulled me completely out of the experience and made me angry.

Game developers: we do not want social network integration in our games... STOP IT!

Those Achievements are on top of the standard 400 Achievement points, and aren't different than Achievements in other games where you have to buy DLC, e.g. the Miss Link DLC for Deus Ex HR which takes it from 1000 points to 1250.

Just because other people shit the bed doesn't make it cool. I'm sure I have the 300 songs needed to get it, but I still think it's one more terrible idea on a pile of them.

So when Bungie/Gearbox/etc etc etc sell DLC that also adds achievements, they're "shitting the bed"? Let me help you out, the answer is no. No they're not.

At least not in the way they insist on doing it.

There is a presentational difference in including those achievements in the game and including them in the DLC itself, regardless of whether you think it matters if they count for the full 400 or 1000 points. That presentational difference is interpretable as an attitude difference.

While we're on the subject, how did Rock Band 3 on PS3 handle the platinum trophy and the DLC trophies? Were they not counted for it?

Tracks are two buttons only? That's kind of a weird design decision, I think I'd prefered it if they had used the Unplugged configuration. And good luck attracting newcomers with a tracklist as shitty as this one.

I think what they're trying to do with the whole facebook challenges thing really would have been better suited for a mobile/ipad game.

Doesn't XBox Live already have a friends list, and leaderboards? Doesn't the game automatically see where you rank amongst your XBox Live friends? why is there Facebook integration? WHY IS THERE FACEBOOK??????

Are there still newcomers to this genre?

I'm considering this solely because I have about 500 songs on my 360 hard drive and no plastic instruments.

Why ask me a question if you're going to answer for me? Personally, I hated how Gearbox handled achievements with their DLC. Instead of getting just the achievements with the particular DLC pack you bought, you'd get them for the next one too, giving you just that little encouragement to pay a little more. Shit tactics either way.

Because it's a simple premise. All arcade games come with 400 achievement points. All retail come with 1000. None of those 400 or 1000 points require DLC. Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz come with extra achievement points to reward people that have invested in DLC. How the hell is that being shitty?

It seems pretty simple. Try to keep all of the lanes filled so you can increase your multiplier.

Edit: well if you put it that way...

He did make seem more complicated than it was I guess.

Wow that was a shockingly terrible quick look by Jeff. I had to stop it halfway through because I genuinely felt like they were trying to shill the game, it felt insulting.

Calling Jeff a shill is a pretty sure way to get him to post in this thread really angrily, so I just jinxed you with this post. You can thank me later.

EDIT: At least Alex didn't do the review.

Jeff says a game is okay: "MAN JEFF IS SO JADED, HE HATES EVERYTHING!"

Jeff seems to actually like a game more than usual: "MAN JEFF MUST JUST LIKE IT BECAUSE HE LIKES PEOPLE AT HARMONIX!"

Also, the game isn't all that hard to understand. Play tracks to up multiplier>Multiplier increases at checkpoints>Power-ups help get more points.

In that case I'm doubling down on it and calling him out on 8.8 Twilight Princess as well. Oh yeah I went there!

There's totally nothing wrong with liking a game (see: Borderlands), it's when the entire video feels like an advertisement video produced by Harmonix that it goes sour. It feels like the sort of thing the marketing people would put out to introduce people to a game down to the nitty gritty details which is the complete opposite of what they generally do with quick looks (go in semi-blind and skip past tutorial messages).

edit: the shocking part is that Jeff is doing it. I've come to expect this sort of QLs from Patrick and Ryan.
