Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

I'd cry myself to sleep on November 6 and then get over it and LAN some Halo 2/3.

I'd bottle up my tears, send them to Frankie, and say LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE. Then I'd sell my Xbox and all my games, because I will never, ever, succumb to the clusterfuck known as CoD multiplayer for good.

Halo 5

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this happened.

Our only hope is when 314 Industries takes over for Halo 7, the Dongblainer trilogy.

No but really, if I was in the industry, I would totally steal the original Halo template and try and make my money continuing the legacy. I hope someone good tries that sometime. Doubt any knock off could do well even if they got the gameplay right, but it would be nice to see a game with that original template again.

EDIT: That was a nice video Ken lol.

I'm still not sure where to preorder from. Gonna be gamestop by default but a Microsoft Store opened up in the same area. Do they have any sweet swag?
In your area, I'd say the biggest launch event will be in NYC. If this is a possible for you, I'd plan the launch day there.

If not, the Microsoft Store is your best choice. They freshly opened, correct? If so, they trying to get customers, so it is a safe bet that they will do a Launch event there too.

I'm going to make a very big GAEMS announcement a bit later today. For now, here's a hint: 117649

About to make that announcement I referenced earlier. For those who were wondering about the number I posted, take its square root.

Hint: Square is 343.

I know he left MS a while back, is he joining 343 as matchmaking/banning security? He was head of enforcement at Xbox Live...

EDIT: NEVERMIND
He announced a portable xbox/TV system with the Halo 4 Xbox.

Um, I may be off base, but it doesn't look like a 343 announcement to be (working for them). He said a big GAEMS announcement, GAEMS is a company. Or perhaps I'm understanding you incorrectly.

Edit: Saw your edit right after I posted.

Whoa, I thought he misspelled 'games' until I saw this link. What an awful name for a company.

interesting.

Ah no quick edit, not so interesting :/

I'm so jealous of you guys who are going to PAX, I will try to go next year, maybe Hyper could tell me what he paid this year, so I know it.
I hope you all will have a great time.

And relating to Launch Events, many of you are really lucky to have midnight launches, I don't think any shop here in Germany does a midnight launch for Halo 4. Hoping for some stores to put it early in the stores.

Early ... good word, by this time ( late august) the first hackers had the retail version of Reach on their JTAGs, do you think it will happen again? One month ahead of launch a leaked copy ??

Finnally nearly got my Man Cave bedroom fully decorated. Just got to get pictures up on the walls now and i am done.

That Halo hype is building. I know iv got a steady stream of games from now till launch to tide me over.

I start my new job tomorrow aswell, Wish me luck.

Hopefully in 2 month ill be settled in that awesome "make more money than you spend" routine.

Oh congrats man, whats the job?

So now if I buy the console I can buy a case with a monitor in it to take it places for only 800 dollars? What a deal!

Where would I even go with that? It seems like such a limited use product.

I'd love to go to NYC but its probably not going to happen. If only games came out on the weekend.

And there's a gamespot in the same building as the MS Store.... But I know that gamespot preorders have exclusive swag.

It's for tourneys, LANs and oddly yet logically enough, homes where the "kids" use the main TV sometimes but are ejected when "grownups" or wives demand full use of big TV. It is also INCREDIBLY useful for video game developers who travel with builds a lot to demo. :)

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of. It seems silly to me, but awesome for them. Hope they're successful, and I hope the UNSC edition helps'em out.

LOL

That's how you are online, even when you told GAF that you were another place.

Watching the Reach commentary again real quick since I was looking for a quote for someone, and I'm just reminded at how perfect Reach's ending was. So good on the meta level.

The only thing the Reach commentary reminds me about is how it was ultimately disappointing (talking about the commentary.) We just didn't get a lot out of it, I think, and that's a shame. Still good Marty jokes though, so I guess there's that.

Amid all the cries of "it's not Halo," what in your opinion would be a natural evolution of Halo gameplay? If you bother to answer, please go into detail. I recall bigshow throwing out a few paragraphs on the subject and I'm sure most of you have weighed in at some point or another, but either I don't remember or it didn't amount to much more than some specious mention of high skill gap and 60 fps. I'm curious.

I just keep the box that the Xbox comes in. It's incredibly easy and mobile to just put everything back in the box for transportation.

Usually when I do that I end up with a bad case of "how did all this stuff originally fit in the box?" Only times I've particularly noticed that wasn't the case was things like Apple computers where everything's incredibly minimal anyhow.

In Michigan we use laundry baskets to travel to lans, I started the awesome trend. Yes it works beautifully.

VentilatedLaundryBasketPearl_l.jpg
My apartment was robbed a few years ago, and the crooks took an xbox (broken one, with the shiny new replacement left behind for some reason), all my (good) games, some electronics, a sandwich in the fridge and various odds and ends, but for some reason the fact that they took my laundry basket pissed me off the most.

I mean, I'm sure they carted out my shit in the basket, but still. I can't explain why it bugged me more than anything.

Fuckers.

I hope they nerf it in Halo 4 so it does something that significiantly reduces the apex tactical advantage.
It was a dream, and a good run.

*salutes*

Typically I'd agree, but the Xbox box is organized pretty well. All your cables and your controller fit into the compartments on the bottom, and the Xbox just goes right on top. Very easy.

I think going into the direction of UT and Quake would make more sense gameplay-wise than going into the direction of CoD. To me that seems more natural than what they did with Reach and are doing with Halo 4. I made a long post about what I would like Halo to see become (or "evolve" into) some time ago.

You know what would be a great Halo game? One which goes more into the direction of Quake, Unreal Tournament and other similar games. Only to a certain extend, of course, because Halo is quite a different beast than those games. Faster movement speed, higher jumps and overall agility would be better. The person who thought sprint was a good idea would get fired. Everyone would spawn with the exact same player traits at the beginning of the match and the outcome of the match is only decided by what players do in a match. You would start with a utility weapon that's good at any range, but is outclassed by other pick-up weapons in only a certain range. More (kinds of) power-ups would be on the map. You would be able to see what kind of power-up a person has in a glance. The AR would never be a starting weapon. The amount of different gametypes would be reduced to only the ones that are actually good. You would be able to flag juggle. There would be no fall damage and no stun. You wouldn't have to play gametypes on maps for which they weren't designed. The radar would only be in Free-For-All gametypes. CQC power weapons would never be put on small maps with tight corridors. Snipers wouldn't be placed on big open maps. Vehicles would have their health tied to the driver's health. The Spartan Laser would never see daylight again. Weapons wouldn't have bloom to slow down the game to a crawl. Maps wouldn't have huge flaws in them that a monkey with no eyes riding on a bike with a hat on would notice the moment it played on the map for the first time.

It would be Halo.
It's obviously not very realistic (it probably won't sell as much in today's market), but it's just my opinion on what is Halo to me and what I wish the developer should build upon.
