Hells Angels: the craziest anime you'll ever see

(Also know as just Hells)

So I watched this the other night, and boy was it special. Some of the most stylish over the top animation and visuals I've ever seen coupled with an absolutely insane balls to the wall plot, ridiculous characters that still somehow found the time to be compelling to some degree, and lots of really really cool ACTION.

The plot starts out pretty simple; you got some nice high school girl getting hit by a bus and sent to Hell, where everyone is ready to rock the fuck out because they're in a school run by Elvis. The thing is, the girl was sent to Hell by mistake, so now she's looking for ways to go back home. Saying anything else would be a spoiler, but if you haven't figured it out by now, it gets pretty nuts.

Might as well cross-post my impressions from the anime thread.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible. How the fuck has this flown under the radar for so long? This seems like the kind of thing that would have been hyped up by the same crowd as Redline. I'm speechless at just how amazing this was. I can't even work up the energy to hit the exclamation key. That's how amazing it was. Every fuckin aspect of this movie was MADE for me.

Speaking of Redline, I feel that this addresses my complaints with that and then some. The first half of Redline was the lead-up to the race and it was pretty boring at times. Here, it's just insanity for nearly 2 whole hours, yet this didn't happen at the cost of build-up and character development. It's the kind of perfect pacing that gets my blood boiling. Any downtime was brief, and even then, the crazy visuals keep you entertained.

Comparing it to Redline probably isn't a good idea though. It reminds me more of something that Imaishi would do. The first half was kind of like a mix of Dead Leaves and Superjail, while the second half was... I don't even fuckin know, something really really really really awesome.

Have I mentioned how much I love this art style and animation? No? Well I REALLY love it. Again, it's something I would expect out of Imaishi. Fast and frantic movement combined with an art style that is PERFECT for that kind of animation. The variety in the designs, the rough feel, the everything; I don't have a single complaint about the look of this thing.

The premise is also something that brings out the awesome in every little thing. The kind of setting where Hell is just an all around awesome place and everyone is ready to ROCK. It's the kind of supernatural school life that just gets exponentially more insane as the story goes on until it gets to the point where it just collapses on itself in glorious madness.

Oh, and I have to give this story props for giving us the most hot-blooded incarnation of
Eve
in any work of fiction (that I know of). I can't believe they took the story of
Cain and Abel
and turned it into... that.

Seriously, what a ride. 10/10, A+/A, Hat/Fabric, whatever kind of rating you want to give this, it's fuckin amazing. This is going right into my top 10 of all time, possibly even my top 5. I almost think this deserves its own thread. Anyone want to make me some gifs?

I would post more impressions from the thread, but some are lengthy like mine, so let's leave it at that for now. Needless to say, people enjoyed it immensely (some more than others).

Here's how it looks in motion (gifs courtesy of wonzo):

I would post more, but don't want to spoil the fun. Here's a crappy quality trailer, but it is SUPER SPOILERY, so watch at your own risk.

So yeah, check this out. If you like visually over the top stuff like Redline, Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann, etc. then this is definitely something you need to see.

Director: Yoshiki Yamakawa
Studio: Madhouse

You can buy it here.

I just saw Redline and really enjoyed it. Is Hells Angels out to purchase in the USA? I couldn't find it on Amazon..Looks really cool. I'm trying to catch up on the good anime movies for the last ten years or so.

looks like a darker FLCL.

I've only watched a handful of animes in my lifetime because I think most of it is retarded shit but i'll give this a try because it looks wacky like flcl.

The only anime's i've ever liked and still love:

Dragonball Z
FLCL
Akira movie
Ghost in the shell
Claymore ---Love the anime and manga
Berserk ---greatest thing i've ever read
ninja scroll movie

those miyazaki movies (princess mononoke, spirited away, etc.)
cowboy bebop
trigun

Watch it. Also watch Dead Leaves, Redline and possibly Gurren Lagann.

Unfortunately no, but the Japanese BD has English subs. They aren't perfect grammatically, but they're good enough outside a few scenes, but you can still figure it out with a little bit of reading comprehension and what's going on visually.

Eh, I liked Redline, but from those gifs this seems like something I'd not like.

I'm just comparing it to Redline in the sense it's over the top, probably has a ridiculous budget, and was made by Madhouse. The art style isn't really similar nor is the content, but the presentation is comparable.

Again though, as I say in my anime thread post, I would say it's more in line with Dead Leaves. That may be less known though.

Bah fine, I'll put it in the OP. But remember, it is super spoilery, so try to forgot what you've seen in it since there isn't much context.

I don't even remember what I saw, but I do remember it melting my eyeballs off and then it made me pull out my wallet...

Purchased!

Really liked redline for it's animation and art direction/style. This...not so much. Judging from the gifs.

...
Watched the trailer.

Yep, don't like the art at all and i can't appreciate good animation without being paired with a good art style.

Unless

unless Yutaka Nakamura worked on this. If so, then I'll watch it for that scene alone.

I'm conflicted, I loved Gurren Lagann but hated Dead Leaves.

A few people share that sentiment in the anime thread as well, but loved this. Hells Angels isn't as juvenile as Dead Leaves, which seems to be the main complaint with the latter when comparing it to this. They just happen to both be over the top.

Hells Angels or rather what the fuck did I just watch?

that was sure something. I'm not even sure I enjoyed it fully but man....it was...uh special.

It dragged on like crazy near the end with like 5 near endings. and as crazy as it was I felt like it was missing some crazy fight scenes too. Also the twist was dumb as shit and yet creative....I don't even.

I said some variation of what the fuck like 30 times during it.

Nice animation and art in general and the message was pretty cool too.

but still...

wat.

Looks interesting, but to claim that it's the craziest anime that my eyes will take in... that's a pretty lofty claim given my history.

Wow, looks really cool. Any time soon it's coming to english versions of Amazon? 'Cause navigating that japanese page is a pain.
