Post your tattoos

Anyone got a rough idea of how long this would take? I'm wanting something exactly like it:

I've never gotten a tattoo before but am very seriously considering one... I want it to be based on a scene from one of my favorite songs, but I don't think either of the official pieces of art quite capture a style that would work for a tattoo

I love the lone bard sitting in a mystical forest, but I'd want some modifications if I actually get it done. Do most tattoo parlors have artists that will draw up their own works based on pictures you give them? Does this cost extra money?

Here is the song the pictures are based on by the way. A few close people know that this is the song I want played at my funeral, so having a tattoo based on it would be great

I'm also thinking of having a second one done, of my man charizard:

I think the tribal style fits in with the mysticism of the Bard's Song scene, so they would work well together. I'd probably have it all black except for the blue wings and the flame on the tail

Well, it really depends on where you would like to get the tattoo. Those images look like they would be perfect for a chest plate, or chest piece. You could have the bard in the middle of your chest, and have the surrounding woods go up to your shoulders or something like that. And, from my experience, the tattoo artist will work with you and customize how you want the image to look. Sometimes its actually better to bring references because it gives the artist an idea of what you are specifically looking for. At the place I go it only costs 20 for the design.

I just came back from my tattoo place and I am all scheduled to go to begin my chest plate on Tuesday! I'll be shitting bricks about the pain all weekend.

Considering getting a tattoo on the side of my head. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these?

I'm currently working in Japan and this is the only place I can get a tattoo and still be able to hide it when I'm in the gym changing room (would be thrown out otherwise). Speaking of which, would it be a pain for the tattoo artist if I shave the underside of my head to get the tattoo but leave enough hair to cover it over for work afterwards?

Been wanting to get a FOXHOUND tattoo for a while, but wanted my artist to put his style into it. Turned out great! First time getting my ribs done though, they suuuuucked.

Got this today. Sternum ain't no joke

That is one sweet tattoo.

Post a pic when colored in.

We have the exact same body type, well from what is shown. Also have the chin hair. If I sent my wife that pic and told her I'd gotten a tattoo, she'd flip out (hates tattoos), because there's no way she wouldn't think that was me.

Yeah I should be going back in two to three weeks for another session. You should totally send the pic, just to see the reaction.

I don't have much experience and I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't know, but... that is going to HURT. Everyone I've talked to and everything I've read said head tattoos are ungodly painful. So be ready and enjoy the endorphins... I'm impressed.

The rest of the info I can only guess at. First off, you/the artist will shave with a an actual razor down to your scalp. Not just clippers. You should be able to leave longer hair to fall down over and cover it, but make sure you let the artist know about this so he can discuss it with you. It shouldn't be a big deal. Having said that, someone will probably still see it. So just make sure you won't get in too much trouble. Also, if you are constantly covering it up make doubly sure that you take good care of it. You don't want to irritate it too much with hats and you want to give it a chance to breathe.

Good luck! What are you thinking about getting?

This can't be real, right? Even the quote is wrong.

I noticed this too as it's one of my favourite films of all time. I don't have any tattoo's but I like Soshy's (the singer), it goes all down her body.

You can see it here:

And it goes right down to her foot. Didn't want to post the picture which shows it all off cause she's nude, not that you say anything but I didn't want to risk it.

So I've been thinking about getting a tatoo in the future. Yesterday I had an idea for one, let me know what you think.

moon_plaque.jpg

Not the whole thing. I want both sides of Earth and maybe the words (in the same font)

FOR ALL MANKIND

was thinking about getting it on my back or have one half of the globe on one arm and the other side on my other arm.

Oh and for why its significant, I'm a big space nut and I eat that shit up. I'm also interested in sustainability and such which is why I'm studying Environmental Science. The moon missions are responsible for the huge environmental movement that happened in the 70's. Once people saw the image of the Earth Rise, or the Blue Marble, they realized how fragile the planet is. Soon after the Apollo program the Clean Air and Water Acts were passed.

Has anyone here ever actually sought out a tattoo artist to design a tattoo from their own ideas? I was going to get my artsy cousin to design it for me (I was going to pay her well, too) but that's falling through, so I'm wondering where to go next. Is there a "right" way to find a good tattoo artist and work with them on concepts, without bleeding my wallet too much? I have an idea of what I want, and basically a "design doc" with possible influences, ideas, etc. that I have, but I don't know if I'm asking too much or if there's a good way to go about this.

For me it was google "Best tattoo shops in London"
I then found an article with about twenty listed and went through every single one, every single artist and then decided on a certain artist.
They do all the design work you just need to provide the idea and a point of reference (picture of a tiger in a certain way or whatever).

Dont pay someone else to do the work as that defeats the point of going to a certain person and at the extreme end could be borderline offensive to some.

Oh and this is to anyone but for the love of GOD dont skimp or cheapskate it!!!
Its going onto your body FOREVER! Dont buy a game/cd/dvd/takeway for a month if thats what it takes to be able to afford what needs doing by the artist you want.

Peoples mouths drop open when I tell them mine cost £900 but Its worth every penny.

how much was that? I wouldn't want the locust, but something really detailed like that and about that size.

I like when chicks have all black tats...

I want to add more on my arm, but not sure what to really get. I guess I'll look through this thread for some ideas.

Second session, pretty much just as painful, if not more so. I'll update with a better shot once the artist posts the pic on his instagram.

Agreed, this is looking even more awesome!

So my mate is drawing up my sleeve design as we speak. Can't wait for it to be finished! Then just gotta find a tattooist who can do it justice.

I gotta agree with everyone, the colors do pop a lot. Looks good.

I've seen so many outline tattoos done which look fantastic, but then when the color is added, it loses something. Not the case here at all. The color enhances the art for sure.

I've wanted a US-themed tattoo for a while now, but not something that's American in an explicit or in-your-face manner. I think I've found the right stuff.

Are you guys familiar with the lobby of the Empire State Building? It's full of wonderful art deco motifs, with cog-like stars and planets. It reminds me of 1920s America, the machine age, the Roaring 20s. It also makes me think of The Great Gatsby, which is a novel I like a lot.

I'm thinking of somehow turning this into a half-sleeve in black, white, and a rather faded gold. What do you guys think?

I'm also thinking about incorporating the ESB mural from the lobby into the tattoo. Not sure though.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I've also decided to have my Triforces removed from my shoulders (see a few pages back), so I'm thinking about incorporating a Triforce into this tattoo.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the mural either, it's just a thought.

The Triforces stretch my chest piece too wide, and one of them did not heal well enough.

Really impressed by some of the tattoo's in this thread. I'm a bit too much of a pussy to cover up an entire shoulder and although I love the dark tone of some of these tattoo's I think I'd prefer something lighter. I don't really have a grand plan and I'm not sure If I'm gonna go through with it yet but I always really loved the Final Fantasy logo work, especially the FFVIII and FFX one's. I'd have them done without the text and in colour most likely.

FF8:
FFVIII_FithosLusecWecosVinosec.jpg

FF10:
Ff10_logo.jpeg

Kojima logo:
Kojima-productions-logo.jpg

And I know the Kojima productions logo isn't exactly the most original idea but I still love it's simple design and the fact that it holds up even without context. I really liked the modified foxhound logo posted in this thread, but that artist seemed really skilled.

I've always pretty much only considered getting a tattoo on my upper arm but I feel like the FFX logo might be a bit too wide for that? I don't exactly have the thickest upper arms either ;). I don't mean to come off insecure either but I'm also not sure if the FF logo's could end up looking a little feminine. I'm not getting a tattoo to show off my masculinity but looking at some of the more badass tattoo's here it does make me think a little bit.

EDIT: I also love the ICO pal cover art, I don't necessarily want a gaming related tattoo but all this awesome art makes it hard not to. Do you guys think an artist could do something with that cover on a upper arm? I feel like if the artist can't nail the painterly
look of the cover and the beautiful colours it's not going to come together very well.

(Sorry, belated reply.)

Cheers for the advice. I reckon I'll get it at the end of the year in Shibuya. I have an artist in mind that specialises in black fine line tattoos. I'm leaving Japan next August, so if it gets spotted in early 2013 it's not the end of the world... as long as my school doesn't find out. Hmm.

I'll have to get a picture of mine...... waiting on inspiration for my next one at the moment.

Finally had my last session for my half-sleeve today. Here's a better photo of what it looked like with just an outline:

And here it is today after the last session (and still bleeding!):

Anyone in Chicago, I highly highly recommend you check out Deluxe Tattoo, especially Jason Vaughn. The dude is craaaaaazy talented.

Not sure if you still post here since this post is way old but do you have any more pics of this one? It is incredibly badass. Figured I'd try since this thread got bumped.

I have an issue.

I have a large black sun tattoo on my far upper arm/shoulder region that I really like, up until recently when I realized it might be too "tribal" for my liking. I have had this tattoo for over 10 years now, and have gotten it recolored, and "enlarged" twice by making the rays longer. I am about to do it again. But I want to change the look up slightly to something more timeless.

Pic below, best shot I have of it. Me and my daughter chilling. Please be nice. I am really open to suggestions, and bracing myself for comments about how it's not just a little bit tribal but way too tribal.

Thank you!
