Bayonetta 2 - WiiU (Director: Yusuke Hashimoto, Pub: Nintendo, Supervision:Kamiya)

The Iwata Asks for this should be rather interesting. Also seems like Nintendo can't win: core gamers say there's not enough games tailored to their interests on the system, and they're not interested in buying. Nintendo announces a core, desired game. Same people who complained about the lack of those kind of games get angry for having to buy the system to play it. Makes no sense.

Core gamers don't want to buy WiiU because at this point it appears to be at a graphical level of consoles they already have. Now they're pissed that they're being asked to shell X dollars for what they see as redundant technology...just to play games that they expected to get on their platform of choice next-gen.

Nice find.

What does he mean by "cover"?

Are you alright?

I didn't call it an outright button masher. I played a demo of Bayonetta but all of DMC4 on PC. If you wanna get S rank on all the levels it requires skill and knowledge of all the combos and moves but if you just wanna beat the game you can button mash your way through it easily because it doesn't require you to know how to do everything.

What are you talking about? You called it a button masher (with additional combos that were basically useless - which of course does not in any way change your claim) in your original post; in this one, you give a definition of "button masher" and claim that Bayonetta is one. Whether that's true or not (and it isn't, except for the lowest difficulty), you DID call it a button masher, now TWICE. No matter how much you claim you didn't, you called it a button masher both in this post and the previous one. Just saying that you didn't does not change what you actually did. No amount of idiotic sophistry and wordplay will change that.

This announcement was the one reason I wish I wasn't at Nintendo World watching the livestream. I can only imagine what happened on GAF now...

That being said:

THE QUEEN IS ALIVE, LONG LIVE THE QUEEN

How'd that go down? I'm a bit sorry I wasn't there, but I was FREAKING OUT here at home, fangirl squees and all, and I think I would've made a slight ass of myself.

Do we actually know it was canceled? Wasn't that just a rumor? A rumor that could have stemmed from the PS360 versions being canned, and someone jumping to conclusions?

And couldn't this be a timed exclusive?

It was very, very strongly suggested to be canceled. Further, if it were not canceled, this would at least represent a very awkward financial transaction between Sega and Nintendo; picking up a game for exclusive publishing is very different from taking it away from a Publisher who already has rights. If Sega wanted to publish it, there isn't much Nintendo could have done about it. Therefore, the logical conclusion is that the game was dropped by its original publisher, and then Nintendo picked it up.

And yes, this could be a timed exclusive. I would not at all hold my breath, though. That sort of thing has happened (Ninja Gaiden Sigma) but isn't a common occurance and has never happened with Nintendo specifically.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

You mean they have to buy a new system to play new games? But nobody's ever done that :(

holy shit when i read all the bullshit in this thread :

the true is

the license belongs to Sega
This is Nintendo that will support the edition of the game in partnership with Sega
PG are developers

Sega save Colver Studio because capcom fired them
Sega partnership with Platiniums Games for 4 games, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Madworld, Infinite Space,

the probability :
temporary exclusive because the license belongs to Sega

All I remember from that game besides me pressing the buttons mindlessly is 1) the back-tracking and 2) crystal clear, ultra sharp and detailed texture work, really incredible textures on PC. Bayonetta probably would've looked nuts.

Those are from Bayonetta. Wow.

As someone has already mentioned, this is disappointing to be platform exclusive- but on the flip side of that coin, the game wouldn't exist otherwise.
Not buying a WiiU, but I hope those that do buy one, buy this game!

If you cant find at least 5 games that interest you ever on wii u than thats just too bad and sucks for you. Core gamers are interested in games first over tech or at least thats what i thought

The reason it was never "officially" cancelled was because it never "officially" existed. Sega, despite being an awful company, at least was smart enough not to announce to fans it had cancelled the only semi-popular Platinum game to ever exist, because they're so busy publishing Aliens and Football Manager games.

Damnit Nintendo, I didn't want a Wii U at launch!

Part of me really really hopes that Bayonetta 2 will show up on the PS3/360 at some point, but the words "Nintendo exclusive" kills that for me.

Wake up.
Check Gaf.
Bayonetta 2 for Wii-U

oh this thread going to be good.....was not disappointed.

This might be the game to actually get me to buy the Wii-U.
Well played Nintendo....well played.

Why are you so upset about this? I didn't outright call it a button masher, that's how I played the game and beat it so I found it to be one but I understand if it's not considered one. Why is that a problem?

Those are from Bayonetta. Wow.

Like I said I only played the demo on a console (no PC version), I thought he was talking about DMC4.

I was just offering a different view on the situation.

Then consider your view offered.

Don't confuse a few salty console warriors as any indication of core gamers as a whole. There are plenty people that are, and will be happy to get a sequel to a game that possibly never would have seen the light of day otherwise.

Just because these guys are vocal doesn't mean they are the majority.

Nintendo has yet to ever lose Twin Snakes even though Konami could bring it to other platforms if they really wanted to.

Bayonetta is a button masher because you played a 20 minute demo? Okay.

I guess I'd be shocked if this didn't end up on other platforms in some guise at some point next generation. Still, I won't be buying a WiiU so as a Bayonetta fan it will suck if I turn out to be wrong. I'm sure Nintendo fans and future WiiU owners are happy as hell and feeling pretty cocky, though.

Theres nothing to be cocky about. Gamers are just happy to have a sequel. If anything, Nintendo fans deserve a treat now and then. They have been pretty downtrodden lately and I think rather unfairly, just because they support a company that likes to do things a bit differently. Let them enjoy this game and this moment and what it will hopefully lead to in the future.

"Core gamers" (and a lot of developers) seem to be somewhat stupid and do not realise that making games costs money and there are not enough of them to make money on what are basically niche games on expensive-to-develop-for higher tech systems. Which is the reason that middle range games have basically ceased to exist this gen and the entire market is in a bad state: the entitled stupidity of technology-oriented "core gamers" and Western developers' preoccupation with technology.

Bayonetta 2

2 HUGE third party exclusives. Wow...

What's next?
Shenmue 3 Wii U exclusive would be a game-changer!

Unless you're talking purely in terms of internet hype, neither of those are "HUGE" third party exclusives. Bayonetta and Rayman Origins were pretty niche, and that's back when they were available on multiple platforms.

Same would go for Shenmue.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about that.

Snake didn't strip himself naked and summon a demon from his clothes though. :p

It would be cool, but I don't see Bayonetta getting into Smash at all without ruining her. I'm no expert, but I thought shooting with guns on her heels and summoning a demon from her clothes/hair were her signature moves. If they didn't even let Snake have a gun (not even a traq), then there's no way they'd let Bayonetta get away with the stuff she does unless they've become MUCH less strict.

He thought I was talking about DMC4, confirming that he's not qualified to make sweeping statements about Bayonetta's gameplay.

I want to believe. :(
