I've read every single post in this thread and this is why I love gaf.

Keeping on topic, I was already sold on the WiiU; but I'm getting this game day 1

That speaks volumes.

These guys were fine compared to Gracious & Glorious, by the time i met Gracious & Glorious i was pretty confident with Grace & Glory, feeling reschooled by their even eviler older brothers was an eye-opener.

Exactly, and that's the issue with Nintendo consoles (aside form handhelds), they're Nintendo machines for Nintendo franchises for Nintendo fans lacking peripheral appeal. This could change any time, but not with a stop gap HD solution like the Wii U.

We're expected to "suck it up" and buy a console that holds only one title we want and will look outdated by the end of 2013? That is a tall order. Bayonetta Wii is icing on the cake for Nintendo fans, but it's a diamond in the desert for others.

Out of curiosity, how many games of this nature would you need to see before you find the system appealing?

While I've just gotten finished defending those upset about the platform choice because they don't want to have to buy a system they otherwise have no interest in, I do think there is some reason on the other side.

Specifically, as you note here, many people chide Nintendo systems for not having games they happen to personally be interested in. They are, as you say, Nintendo systems for Nintendo franchises. However, when these Nintendo systems finally do get games people are interested in, they become upset at that, as well. It doesn't seem like Nintendo can win here, for you.

Why are people assuming Japan only?

It was shown at the North American conference. Explicitly. They made a big show of it. It was not just "It is part of a sizzle reel with other games."

It was "HEY GUYS HERE IS BAYONETTA 2 I AM REGGIE HERE IS MY LICENSE AND BIRTH CERTIFICATE HERE IS A TEASER THAT SAYS BAYONETTA 2"

It wasn't a blatant lie. Why would I purposely lie like that the very next post unless I had short-term memory loss or something? It's called context and speaking from your own personal experience. "I found that"... not "It is"
It depends upon what the meaning of the word "is" is.

The biggest problem for Platinum's games is that they get no exposure, Sega doens't give a shit about them and give them no advertising. I'm hoping Nintendo won't squander such a deal and advertise the shit out of this game, otherwise they're stupider than I thought.

Whether a game is or is not a button masher is not subjective, context dependent, or anything of the sort. It's an objective property of the design. You can play a game by simply mashing buttons, but that doesn't make it a button masher. Using the term "button masher" in that way makes it devoid of meaning.

You could have just said "the combat system didn't grab me" but for some reason you pulled out a specific term and used it inappropriately. That's why people got upset. Some probably got too upset.

the license belongs to Sega
This is Nintendo that will support the edition of the game in partnership with Sega
PG are developers

holy shit when i read all the bullshit in this thread :

the true is

the license belongs to Sega
This is Nintendo that will support the edition of the game in partnership with Sega
PG are developers

Sega save Colver Studio because capcom fired them
Sega partnership with Platiniums Games for 4 games, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Madworld, Infinite Space,

the probability :
temporary exclusive because the license belongs to Sega

Don't want to ruin your fun, but stuff that's PUBLISHED by nintendo stays exclusive.

Microsoft does the same thing, See Mass Effect 1.

Keep in mind that this represents an additional cost. Two costs, in fact:

1) The difference between the initial sale price and resale price. If you buy it for 300 and sell it for 250, you're out 50 bucks.

2) The time spent selling it is also a cost. If I have to spend 2 hours total listing the system on Craig's List, finding a legitimate buyer I trust, then meeting him and making the transaction, those 2 hours stink and you'd probably have rather spent them doing something else. If you instead take the "easy" route and sell to Gamestop, you're going to lose a significantly larger chunk to resale value.
No doubt you would lose money, maybe as much as $100 all in, but that's only $40 more than you were ever going to pay for Bayonetta 2. I don't think that's so much to someone who is impassioned enough by Bayonetta to be really upset about it's exclusivity.

It's like I've started arguing the opposite point though. I understand why someone would be pissed by this, it doesn't irritate me to see people posting very negative things about this news. I can understand people not wanting to buy a console for Bayo 2, even if they can sell it after and not lose that much, it's a hassle.

As of right now, Bayonetta 2 is the only game announced for WiiU that I find even vaguely appealing, and I don't know Bayo 2 will be good, Madworld was trash, and I've only played the demo, but AR looks just as crap. Platnium are not a name I trust implicitly, despite having made two of the best games of the generation.

They may not advertise it much in Japan; NCL is pretty bad about that (see how games like Soma Bringer got no advertisement at all). I do think, though, that NoA will advertise it at least as well as they did for DQ9, which was enough for it to sell very well.

Really? So, if I say "I found that you were lying", I'm not actually saying that you were lying?

I need at least three games to interest me greatly before I feel comfortable, and it's also why I haven't bought a Vita yet.

However, I did bitch out and buy a 3DS solely for the purpose of playing RE: Revelaitons. Worth every penny, but I'm not bending over for Nintendo twice. So Nintendo did 'win' once with me but that was after the price drop too.

It's nice to read a reply like that instead of one filled with f-bombs. That makes sense, a la playing a racing game by driving in reverse... you'll get to the finish line but won't experience what the game really is, am I right?

Bayonetta 2 was real. SEGA stopped giving a shit, like they did with a lot of things, including Max Anarchy. Bayonetta 2 was dead, and I have no reason to disbelieve the people who told me this.

It would appear, as others have stated, Nintendo went shopping for IPs. Bayonetta 2 probably had X% of production complete, and with SEGA disinterested in finishing it felt they could pick it up for an affordable price in order to expand their Wii U portfolio into an area they pretty evidentially lack in.

In addition to this, Nintendo is likely cultivating a relationship with Platinum Games. The company's two next games are exclusive to Nintendo platforms. They're published and funded by Nintendo. Nintendo obviously sees the talent and potential at the studio, and where the studio can expand the company's portfolio. Two games, especially these two, is a nice start. If they succeed, I can guarantee we'll see further collaboration. If they bomb, then Nintendo will probably look elsewhere.

And if they bomb, Nintendo's licensing of Bayonetta 2 may be limited, and I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility of a port to another system. But that's an if, and there are no guarantees.

As it stands, fact of the matter is if Nintendo didn't step in and pick up the Bayonetta 2 project nobody, nowhere would be getting it. Nobody wanted it. It was scrapped. Bayonetta 2 was dead. As a huge fan of the original, the way I look at it having the game is better than not, and I'm stoked Nintendo stepped in to salvage the project. It means I, a huge Bayonetta fan, get to play a sequel I otherwise would not.

Bitching about this collaboration that necessitates the entire game's existence seems so damn silly. We've all got our platform(s) of choice, but the simple fact of the matter is Bayonetta 2, as it was, was not going to appear anywhere else. If you don't like it, write SEGA some angry mail or something. Whining about it in a thread dedicated to the game's revival at the hands of an unlikely company is so petty and silly.
Well said

i remember saying his outburst concerning the new Sony game seemed tinged with a new sense of loyalty..and being laughed at for even mentioning that.. i knew the guy was outspoken, but his opinions on the matter came out of no where for me, because it really had nothing to do with him..i think i was on the money, the dudes Nintendo loyal now, if this works out, thats how it will stay.

If you think about it, freaking PLATINUM GAMES got a feature spot in a press conference, with EA only showing up in a sizzle reel.

Platinum.

This should be a good indicator of how much Nintendo is going to back this.

Honestly, for me, it would only take two or three within the first year to sell me on Nintendo changing up their game. This announcement would only feel like an aberration until then.

Man, I would love it if he actually said that.

Not willing enough, then. :D

As others have mentioned, I've been hoping for this game for a while, but I just can't justify the price of the system right now, even if there are at least 2 other games I do want to play. I think it has more to do with other RL commitments than anything, and it's certainly not a function of blanket Nintendo hate.

I guess I can't argue that I could always get a second job and not sleep, or stop eating anything but ramen for 2 months.

So maybe you're right.

I highly doubt it'll get the same advertising as DQ9, Ninty was really piling behind that, even got a TV ad. But honestly anything is better than what Bayo 1 got.

Yep, that seems completely fair. I also understand that its not your ideal platform (it's definitely not mine either, although my reasons focus almost entirely around Nintendo's poor network services).

I also think your math speaks to how difficult it is for Nintendo to get out of the hole / stereotype they themselves have put their systems in. Getting Bayonetta is not enough; even getting Bayonetta and, say, a Metal Gear Solid may not be enough. If those were the only two major third party games they got, both would likely suffer in sales because they cannot alone sell whole audiences on a platform that costs 300 dollars.

To get people like you and others on board, Nintendo has to simultaneously coordinate and revive many major third party franchises on their system. If any one of these third parties "goes it alone," they will suffer. They all have to dive in, and that's an extremely challenging thing for Nintendo to convince third parties to do. It's why they've been stuck in the position they are in for generations now, despite tremendous individual success.

The salt in here is amazing. Some of you fucks would rather the game stay dead than appear on a "rival" platform. It's sad, really, being so sentimentally attached to a machine you see this "betrayal" as some sort of an insult.

Since Nintendo is the one publishing it they are also the ones responsible for advertising the game.
If they are willing to save one of the best original IPs this generation I bet they're also willing to pay for decent advertising.

We already know that Nintendo is sitting on Quadrillions of Yen waiting to be put to good use. This would be one of them good uses.
