I'm not sure, though it doesn't have to be dead. Nintendo did take MH from the PS3 after all.
I don't think there will be any ultra high profile exclusive either as the business climate is prohibitive of that; the best you can do here is to strike promotional deals like MS with COD. But I do think it's possible for a platform holder to offer a set of circumstances to encourage exclusivity for critically acclaimed series that didn't fare too well on the marketplace.
Beyond Good & Evil, Mirror's Edge, Nier, The World Ends With You are the kinds of properties that come to mind.

There's tons of people that can afford to get only one system. If they already decided they wanted a PS4 or 720 for games like the next Uncharted or Gears, or the online infrastructure or friends that are on that system etc they're not going to get a Wii U.

DQIX was my personal favorite by far. It was a double whammie. DQ going back to ninty butthurt so many sony fans. On top of that was the fact that it was going to handhelds. Oh man. What a thread.

Nice move Nintendo, now I can see myself buy the WiiU..at least sometimes next year. I was expecting on something like this coming when you have a new platform. It's just the begining of a new console war hahaha... platform exclusives (or even timed exclusives) will be the norm again with the WiiU, PS4 and NextXbox coming.

Huh? When was MGR ever thought to be 360-exclusive? I must've missed that.
FFXIII betrayalton was much funnier because it went multiplatform so there really wasn't any downside except for fanboys.

My Memory is fuzzy but i remember it being demoed at microsofts e3 presser and it was thought to be exclusive before it was cleared up that it was multi platform a few days later
What's the downside here? We're getting a game that was canned regardless of whether it's an exclusive or not.

Well, I really really wanted Alan Wake and Sine Mora personally. But now the former is available on PC and the latter is coming to PS3, so I'm happy.
Was there really a big stink over DQX? Did people think it was going to be a PS3 game or something?

In the case of FFXIII there was no downside because it only made the series available to a larger audience.
The downside here is you can only play it on one console. That sucks for people who like Bayonetta and aren't planning to get a Wii U.

Why PS360? Do you have a PS3 or a 360? If you have both, surely you would prefer it for one of the platforms. Why does no one say: I wish this came out on the 360 or I wish this came out on the PS3?

The beginning of this gen was a goldmine with Sony "losing" exclusives right and left that where just assumed by default as never putting their feet on a non-Sony console.
It's not really a "downside" when you're aware of all the facts, but it can definitely seem like a disappointment at first. No question.
But then its a moot point because the game was dead and you weren't getting the game anyway.
We get to play the game.

I wasn't on Gaf for the FF going multiplatform, but I do remember that E3 and online sites. Crazy. Basically the big 'Sony have really done something bad here...' moment and the point where MS became top dog in that environment.
This one has been alright but in the end I think it'll calm down once Nintendo saving the game becomes more common knowledge and less a post the people following it saw
Plus, if the WiiU works out like I hope it does, those posters might eventually make the jump.
This 'am not buying a console for 1 game' comment is just silly because its true, but Nintendo aren't planning to sell it with one game.
Possibly this thread gets the biggest overreaction; but it'll calm down, unlike the other events which never really have and are still kind of relevant today
