Bayonetta 2 - WiiU (Director: Yusuke Hashimoto, Pub: Nintendo, Supervision:Kamiya)

Publishers are dying to fund several year old Japanese character action games made at the tail end of a generation and dumped by the original publisher.

Take Two would cancel GTA V today if they knew they could get their hands on that sweet, sweet Bayonetta 2 money.

There was clearly little to no interests from MS or Sony in making the game exclusive. Surely Nintendo's new console wasn't the first choice to release a game that already didn't sell very well on two platforms. So for people to respond as if they're being betrayed is both pathetic and hilarious to me.

Good for Nintendo to go out and take a risk though funding this shit though. More of that is good for the industry.

Platinum will probably have a larger budget working with Nintendo than Sega ever would have gave them to make the game in the first place. Great to see Nintendo spending some of that warchest, now just purchase platinum so that all but 1 or 2 of my favorite japanese developers are all under the same umbrella!

Platinum+Monolithsoft+EAD= sex

If they are willing to hook up Monolith Soft with a good budget then Plat should get some good shit.

As much as I love me some Monolith, and as much as Gaf loves some Blade their games tend to do even worse then Plats if BKO and Blade will be the numbers. Only good things can come from Nintendo showing off how much they value Monolith depsite some low game sales.

it's amazing how people would twist everything to make Nintendo look like bastards

it's like American History X's monologues

Not quite. I'll just look at the names and shake my head slowly while pre-ordering the newly saved Bayonetta 2.
I would love to see a retroactive post showing the changes of opinion or whether they are still raging from the wall, when Bayonetta 2 comes out or when things die down XD

It's pretty much a tough love move on scenario

It took a little bit, but the salt has flushed from me.
To be honest, with a DQX announcement (for the West), I'd probably be on-board the WiiU express.
Nintendo really is doing a service to gamers by keeping the franchise alive.

Bayonetta 2 announced as Wii U exclusive.
Lots of people annoyed because they weren't planning to get a Wii U.
Lots of people getting a kick out of schadenfreude.
The End.

Well yeah, I get that. But I don't see the big deal actually. You expect some people to be pissed, you expect some people to get a raise out of all this. Big whoop.

Anyway. I'm glad the franchise is still alive.

Your compilation post comes off as a little smug, implying that everyone has the means to buy every system and anyone disappointed in the slightest that they won't get to play it on their system of choice is some kind of ridiculous blow-up rife for mockery.

If Sony picked this game up and made it a Vita exclusive, I'd find it hard to believe you wouldn't be disappointed in some way if you have no plans to buy a Vita. Wouldn't it be frustrating for you if you couldn't buy a Vita in this hypothetical or a Wii U in reality?

Yeah there is some completely irrational ranting going on, and the game might not have been made otherwise. However, I think there's a huge gap between that and being disappointed in the situation because you are not getting a Wii U for whatever reason when this game does not change that viability for a person.

I'll admit my initial reaction was one of the irrational ones, but this post is very well worded with some good points.

Can I just say I am flabbergasted by deciding you will never buy a console before it comes out?

Like, I can understand "Nothing announced so far appeals to me."

But "I will literally never buy this, I hate that they are putting games I want on it" seems utterly insane to me. This seems like a thing that makes sense to say in five years when the library is all out and still nothing appeals to you.

I dunno, I guess for someone that is willing to buy a system for three or four games, deciding before launch that I will not get it does not make sense to me, nor do I really expect any explanation to make sense to me. I don't think my tastes are so narrow that it permeate my stubbornly open mind.

Is it much different from the "Journalists" you told us about who have already decided on telling people to wait for PS360 ports of Rayman and other games?

Right, lets say my most wanted game was announced as a Vita exclusive. Oh, I don't know, Legacy of Kain 6. Yeah, lets go with that.

You know what I'd do? I'd realise that I want to own a Vita. I'd save, trade in old consoles, and work my way to getting the console, because it has a game on it that I'd like to play.

I may then keep the console. Or I might sell it. I might explore the rest of its library, or consider it a purchase that granted access to a one-off game. That's a decision to make after the fact, I imagine.

I'd just be bloody grateful that a dead franchise, buried and utterly abandoned at present, had been revived in some form. I'd be happy that, miracle of miracles, it existed.

I like to think that I wouldn't start lambasting the company that chose to fund said long-shot project. I also like to hope that I wouldn't start mouthing off that it should be on all platforms, when the circumstances of its revival require it to be a Vita exclusive.

Does that help?

Fair enough. I don't disagree with the last part. I'd also like to think someone wouldn't make a "shrine" of people to mock based on their very initial reaction just because it's not "hip hip hooray I'm buying a new system for this game". Not everyone knows the situation surrounding the game and not everyone is getting/can get a new system. I'm just saying pick and choose your mockery subjects a little more carefully. If you're wondering it bothered me that my simple ":(" was included with some pretty specific irrational rantings to be specific.

Platinum just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U, nor will they purchase any of Platinum's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Platinum has alienated an entire market with this move.

Platinum, publicly apologize and make Bayonetta 2 multiplatform or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Brazil

Living in the shadow of Amaz
they have so many franchises people want sequels for years now,why not making a new starfox, super metroid or mario 64-2

why do they have to steal our games?and that's exactly what they do,taking a beloved 3rd party franchise and making it exclusive so others can't play it is stealing

You deserve the most shameful tag in GAF history. I cannot believe you actually typed those words and then clicked the "Post" button.

Dear God.

Thank you based Nintendo, I will support your endeavors day 1 for your supporting of my interests.

Seriously

I'm not a Nintendo fan nor do I really enjoy their games, but this has really opened me up to the possibility of playing more of their games.

Mostly since I'll be owning the console that plays them this time around

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Those are some awesome particle effects in that teaser trailer.

It's "childish" to be annoyed at possibly not getting to play the sequel to a game you enjoyed, because you don't want to drop 300 bucks on a console just to play it?

It's better than the alternative, of...not getting to play the game AT ALL because it would not EXIST.

I am excited that Nintendo and Platinum are working together more. Nintendo has the funds and Platinum the creativity to create some fun things that Nintendo would not normally be apart of.

You're in luck then, DQX is going to be shown off at TGS, HD, and has tablet only gameplay.

This thread is almost making me feel nostalgic. It's been a long time since I've seen console wars of this caliber. I think I'm finally starting to feel like another generation is almost upon us.

So you would rather it not to come out at all? Because thats what would of happened until Nintendo revived the project.

bad gameplay lol

Scenario 1: Nintendo doesn't fund Bayo 2, there is no chance of you ever playing it. Ever.

Scenario 2: Nintendo funds Bayo 2, you will be able to play it at some point in the future, even if it's years from now when you can get a Wii U for $200 or less.

Which is preferable?
