EA Announces Dragon Age III: Inquisition (Frostbite 2, Late 2013, DA Series = 8+ mil)

Except it's not really Frostbite 2, they used it as a "foundation" to build their all new engine. Still a good news I guess.

Well, it's an RPG, so they probably shouldn't use it in stock form unless there's been a dramatic gameplay shift to being pretty similar to a shooter. :p

But more seriously, much like Generals 2 Command & Conquer, they need to host a lot more units and variety within a scene than Battlefield 3's mostly cloned soldiers, which means you want to change at least somewhat.

Given that BioWare Montreal is also working on this game, I'm assuming this variant will be used for Mass Effect as well, which has a similar concern given all the race and enemy variety.

DA2 had two major flaws:

- 12 month development cycle which killed all chances of the game being both long and good. It's beyond all reason why the game was given such a short production window.
- Title change from Dragon Age: Exodus to Dragon Age II, heightening expectations from what was supposed to be "just a side story" type game.

Seeing how this new game has both "3" and a subtitle after it, I'm expecting its quality to be above DA2 but beneath DA:O.

This reminds me, I need to finish DA2. Despite it's well-known deficiencies, I enjoyed the characters and the combat (ninja reinforcements aside). Another thing on that massive backlog of mine.

If you liked DA:O then you probably won't like DA:2, just to warn you.
Not necessarily. I liked both. In fact I just finished my 3rd playthrough of DA2 yesterday.

I'll be there day 1. While DA2 was disappointing compared to the first game, I still enjoyed it. The DLC showed that they know what needed to be improved. My only disappointment is that with that title it's probably going to focus on the mage/templar conflict and that's not the most interesting part of that world. I would much prefer a game with the Qunari as the major adversaries or a game that takes place in the Tevinter Imperium.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
Why bother? Is this franchise important? I played most of the first game, but it was repetitive and boring. I heard the second was worse.

"Lot more units and variety" would probably mean action focussed combat building on DA2's.

Same, I want to go further north on the map. Orlais (sp?) is more or less France.

BioWare: Dragon Age 2 will be as good as Baldur's Gate II

My problem with DA:2 is that it wasn't the kind of game that I wanted. It was so vastly different from DA:O that I just couldn't find myself enjoying it. That's despite the shortcomings of the story, length, equipment, and combat piling up to just make it a very disappointing game.

I can see why people enjoy it, but if you want to say 'I enjoyed DA:O, is DA2 good as well?' then the answer is 'DA:O isn't close to the gameplay of DA2, you probably won't enjoy it for the same reasons.'

As someone who

Liked but didn't love DA1

Would have REALLY liked DA2 if it wasn't for the re used areas and the insanely rushed/badly written ending.

Not touching DA3 with a 30 foot pole. The endings of ME3/DA2 are so disrespectful of the players time and choices that I have no interest in wasting my time or money again. At this point I can't imagine anything bioware says that could change my mind. Release 2-3 games in a row that don't completely fall apart in the last 10% maybe I'll consider them again.

Ah, I see.

It was also dumbed down on Consoles. The only version of DA:O worth playing is the PC version.

There's no version of DA:O that's worth playing though. The fact they marketed the game as a "spirtual successor to BG2" is such a disgrace to the BG name I can never forgive BioWare.

It was a fine successor to BG2 despite not having as interesting characters. It was the first game from a major developer that had even tried to replicate the same feel and gameplay of the Infinity Engine games and comported itself quite well.

DA:O was more of "we don't know how we made BG but we're going to take a shot at it".

Make it like DA:O.

Give us isometric view on PC.

No press any one fucking button to awesome.

LOL. And you believe in Santa too, right Dennis?

Didn't they say they were looking intensively at Skyrim for this one? I expect it to be like that but with a party if anything, including the anime-like girl mods.

BioWare hyped me for this game for like five whole years. I posted on their forums daily and was fed balatant lies by the development crew who posted there the whole time ("non-generic fantasy world", "the story is not about saving the world", man I can't believe I fell for these.) I was promised a IE-worthy title, and I got a second-grade RPG that wasn't even in the same league of BG2.

Chairman Yang

if he talks about books, you better damn well listen
There are so many promising, progressive RPGs on the horizon that I don't have to worry about this game. Frankly, without a radical rethinking of Dragon Age (that means something different and better than both DA:O and DA2), it's unlikely I'll ever get this game. And Bioware's not going to do that.

Fuck.

Don't copy Bethesda's games! They haven't made a good game since before DA:O.

NWN2/MotB came out 2 years before, yo.

Frostbite engine? This sounds like a 10-19 hour RPG with action game play and morality meter. You guys hoping for a DAO-like game are setting yourselves up for heartache.

Can't wait, never picked up DA2, will pick up 3 if it looks good, please bring back mod support, I like customizing my character beyond what they offer in the game along other combat tweaks.

I've done nothing with my life except eat and fap
gets benefit of doubt since it's next-gen, so more RAM = more reactivity.

OR USE DESTRUCTON TECH AT LEAST

But they were absolutely atrocious to play, when it comes to controls, UI, camera and balance.

Like many Obsidian products, good writing and quest design were their only redeeming qualities (which is a lot, but not necessarily enough).
And that's coming from someone who has far more sympathy for Obsidian than for Bioware, these days.

Dragon Age Origins had a terrible and dull ruleset, uninspired dungeons and underwhelming bestiary and encounter design, but played lightyears better than any Neverwinter Nights and very close to those old Infinity Engine titles.

Oh yeah, im down with this. So Dragon Age II was bad, but the fan feedback i think straightened them out. They wont make the same mistakes twice, guaranteed. Hyped for this.

This is how I feel except the last part. I think it did more than just comport itself well.
