iOS 6 |OT| New Maps? googy pls

lol at the Seoul, South Korea max zoom. that's terrible. This is going to affect people outside the US a lot more

I remember reading that if you're in certain countries you'd get a different version of maps. I think it specifically showed maps someone would see if they were in China being vastly different from someone in America who looked at that same spot.

Maps is bad. The POI data is really incomplete for my location. It thinks the nearest ATM is 15 miles away when actually there are several much nearer. That's just one example of many. Will not be replacing my Satnav just yet.

Also satellite view is laughably bad - is Apple using Sputnik?
Agreed. Maps app sucks and satellite view looks like garbage.

Top tip if you hate playing podcasts through the podcast app - you can still play them through the music player by searching for them on the home screen.

Can't wait for the future where I can do anything on my phone that my wallet can do. Fuck creditcards, drivers license and whatnot, give me all of that in my phone.

Tickets are a good start, hope companies catch on.

Wait....you can't use the web browser for YouTube "flash required for video playback". What the hell are iPad users meant to do now that there's no YouTube app?!

Twitter app feels slower. Maybe it's re-caching or something but it was faster before the update. Only app I've tried so far other than safari and typing this post right now.

lol damn, no way that's the max satellite zoom view for Seoul for people living there.

So any Canadian has IOS6 already, im seriously afraid of the new maps, something tells me that traffic and on foot directions wont work with the new maps, I absolutely need that.

Also, is there any way to download the old google map apps on iOS 6?

Cheers, just noticed this when I opened Youtube in Safari. For some reason my chrome doesn't seem to redirect to that.

Holy moly Safari is super fast! Damn, I hope Google get Chrome updated to this speed.

Yeah had a little confusion with this, as the plain YouTube.com worked on the iPad up until maybe a month ago. Not sure why they broke compatibility.

I think a dedicated app would be more ideal (on the way Google says), but setting a home screen link for my YouTube subscription page in Safari has been fine. Give that a try.

Well I can tell you traffic for where I am (Brampton/Mississauga) used to work on Gmaps and on apple maps there is no info. I'm only seeing traffic info further into the downtown toronto core. But even there its really sparse. Walking directions are there...whether they are good and accurate or not I have no clue as I rarely used it.

Well that sucks, im farther away from Toronto than you, so this is a deal breaker for me.

Anyone knows how to get the old google maps app on ios6, dont tell me to use the mobile site please.

So when I sign into facebook in settings, it's going to immediately dump all of my facebook friends into my contacts? How do I get it not to do that?

Yeah sorry man. Traffic and public transit are the two big things apple maps are not up to par with google on yet. Jailbreak or wait for google maps to realese on the App Store. That's the only option right now. The latter no one knows when it's coming. Actually, the jail break no one knows when it's coming either so you pretty much have to stick with iOS5. :/

No but you can just use the Google web app in Safari.

Only on a touch so I've really never used the maps apps, but I checked it out. I live in Hamilton and decided to check out how the walking directions were, and it gave me the most roundabout route you could possibly take to get downtown on foot(down the Claremont cut, rather than the escarpment stairs).

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but if you can answer really quick it would be great. I have an iPhone 4. Is it worth updating? Are any of you with an iPhone 4 going to go ahead and do it?

EDIT:

I just saw the mention up above me. Anyone else got any opinions on it?

K really annoying bug right now. My wifi signal keeps jumping from 2 bars to 3 bars over and over. I'm not moving. I'm sitting in my chair not moving at all. Back and forth back and forth. Wtf. It's not my router. Family members phone is fine.

Yes. There is no reason not to update to ios 6.

Well ok...unless you think Maps is a deal breaker.

Ugh. I have all my devices updated. My MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad and for some reason now I can't get my iPhone to show up in iTunes again. The iPad shows up fine. But I had to restart iTunes just to get that. Before updating it was fine. Why is this still a problem? It's a year later. Ugh.

*sigh*

Makes no sense. In fact if I go into iTunes Sync on the iPhone I can click the button but it takes forever before failing and erroring. It knows iTunes is open. But why the fuck won't it link? The iPad doesn't have any problems and that's not even connected to power and the screen's off.

It's just so stupid. I hope the New iTunes will fix this problem. If all my devices are on the same WiFi they shouldn't be having this problem!

Your wife's phone won't have imessage period. Not sure what you mean?

Right. I just was confused (and a little disappointed) that iMessage is an iPhone only club. I was spoiled by google voice, where from my desktop I could respond to *everyone's* texts, not just people who are registered with iMessage.

What!, I'm certainly not updating yet then.
Although I wasn't anyway, because I still need streetview.

On the other hand, if you live in a big city then you get this:

So a bit of a lottery. Whereas Google has every inch of the country covered, including at street view level. Can't wait for their app.

Hope it's soon. Just tried using the web version and the quality is noticeably worse plus I'm not seeing the ability to fullscreen Safari on the iPad or am I missing something? Irritating having to watch videos with the Safari UI. Youtube content is what I spend most of my iPad time doing :(

Anyone else finding maps to be very slow? Alot of grey boxes taking their time to load. Could just be the servers getting slammed.

Can anyone explain why I can't read more than 5 reviews on an apin the App Store reviews tab? It goes up to 5, and then at the bottom says more reviews. Nothing is there

I'd take a stab at using the "Report a problem" feature in the Maps and report that the imagery is outdated or low-res. During the beta I did this a few times and had Apple responses emailed to me. Some of the issues have even been fixed (others pending updated satellite imagery).

Also, Stockholm is in 3D now, impressed.
