Cliff's map 'Turbine' was my first taste of Unreal Tournament back in the day (it was in the demo), and I loved it! Been hooked to UT ever since. I've also been a big fan of Gears series! I'm sad to see him leave Epic, and I wish him well. Thanks for all the great memories young Clifford!

Hmmmm, reading into this...no next gen till 2014. Can't see the man leaving at the 11th hour like this.
Because it's not big budget (at least that's what I figure with what I've seen despite being UE4), you said he could get anything AAA greenlighted at epic, I don't think that's true
or maybe he is leaving because of the stress that comes with the launch next year?

I understand some people feel the need to carve out their own thing, bit rarely do we see it work. If I was in his pisition there is 1 thing that would make me leave my comfort (and wealthy) zone and that's a major publisher 1st or 3rd giving my own team to call my own shots. Way too volatile a market for anyone in that position to make their own start up right now, especially with Epic being the poster boy last gen and heading into next gen where dev cost are expected to rise again

Would love to see him start up his own studio but being a newlywed and just finishing up the trilogy that defined his career I would count on seeing him semi-retire and basically just doing consulting on the odd project here and there.

Whenever Cliffy talks about game design what he says is essentially exactly the opposite of what Epic makes. I've wondered about that for a while - maybe it finally got to him.

Cliff's not only an incredible mind in the industry. He's a trendsetter. What's he's done for the industry is far beyond being the architect behind one of the greatest developers in the business. His example has put developers in the forefront of the industry. He's turned developers into rock stars, and furthered the relationship between devs and gamers. He's someone all gamers should look up too.
