Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Can we just put the spoilers and speculations for Halo 4 in the Halo 4 spoilers and speculations thread? Sounds crazy I know.

*For this game.

The flood were not eradicated, sorry.

Also, why is this spoilered?

I can't remember why anymore.

The point was when I asked my original question about flood because someone suggested they were in the game I got shit for thinking they WONT be in the game. When like I said as far as this story is concerned they are gone.

We have not seen the last of the flood, we did not kill all of them in Halo 3 also there is the fact that each Halo installation persevered flood spores.

Right, but beyond that the term eradicated was used. Eradicated. It's also not the first time we have heard they are not in this game. Why the hell would you bring that storyline back. It was dealt with. What more can you possibly do with it.

Yes. I mostly wanted to ask this here (not really spoiler related) because I had a few people jump on what I was saying earlier. Even though from what 343 has stated, I was absolutely right in my assumptions. I was hoping to get an answer from the people in this thread for that reason.

I wouldn't touch that VIP gametype with a 10 foot pole. There's leftover labels for it on the shipping version of Powerhouse, so I assume Bungie never deployed it for a good reason if they went that far and pulled it.

The fact that films will include the modded gametype means even uploading a film could have the banhammer hit you.

There is A LOT they can do with the Flood due to events that took place in the Forerunner books.

And I'm still wondering why they deployed Reach.

If it erases my hard drive when I uninstall Reach that's one thing. Everything else, I'm perfectly fine with. That said, I'd love to see the gametype and know why Bungie removed it.

el oh el

but seriously, if you're going to use that gametype. be careful. The only thing I'd upload from VIP games would be screenshots. A gametype or film upload could get you banned.

edit: this was the policy for modded content under Bungie. screenshots of mods were okay, uploading actual modded maps/variants or actually modding a screenshot = ban

For those worried about only being able to use the mech in this sequence:

There's a few mongooses on the lower deck that you can grab instead.

Is someone posting modded gametypes? I wanna see!

Does anyone have the link to the Halo 3 screen shot extractor that was mentioned here a while back?

If anyone wants to take tons of screenshots in Halo 3/ODST/Reach and download them all to your PC, there is no faster way than that app.

If you have a flash drive set up as an XBOX storage device, and you set it as the one Halo 3/ODST/Reach uses when you launch the game, this becomes really easy.

It's too bad that the game immediately compresses the screens after you capture them so as to save space on b.net, it would be nice to have the raw images.

Personally I'd rather only one level of flood or just flood only in cutscenes for the rest of this trilogy. I find most of the flood encounters boring and repetitive. I do like them story wise though.

Just to clarify: What are we allowed to discuss if we can't discuss the info 343 is releasing?
So every new video that comes out now is a spoiler or something?

A rule of thumb: When a page reads like a classified CIA report, there's probably too much spoiler discussion going on.

We have a thread devoted entirely to campaign spoilers and speculation. Posting gifs of or discussing general encounters/non story stuff is fine (at least with me, I'm sure others here wouldn't like that). Just common courtesy.

So on the Ragnarok screens we don't see the SHARK SKOOLZ and MANTA BROS going against each other... Did 343 scrap that?

Why do epidemiologists keep smallpox and anthrax in vials?

No flood in campaign or spops, however. Just MP and history.

Since you're here, tell Jess to kick it up a notch.

Also I have a question for flood haters: what if 343 brought them back but made them AMAZING to fight against?

Imagine if they actually went through with the pure form idea fully and you were fighting a swarm of hulking monstrosities with Chainguns and Plasma Cannons fused to their arms, stopping every few seconds to burst forth a tide of infection forms.

I really hope the flood return just because there is so much potential for them. The pure forms can come in any infinite number of variations according to canon, so if 343 really went crazy we could have a blast fighting the flood. They just need to make them live up to the possibilities in canon.

Truth be told, I enjoyed fighting the flood in all the games.

I do think you are right. It would be cool to see the flood fleshed out some more. Specifically,I would love to see 343 play on the horror element a little more. It would be cool to see a Bioshock style level where flood appear behind you, the power goes out, shadows deceive you etc. There could even be some sort of super hulk like flood form that stalked you through the level. It would give itself away through sound and shadow only to disappear in the nick of time. At the end of the level it could get the jump on you and lead to a cool "boss" encounter.

It's not that I hate the flood it's just their implementation in game, like this...

343 Guilty Spark = totally awesome flood introduction & fighting in game.

Library = great once or twice but ultimately very tedious and repetitive gameplay.

Delta Halo = good flood gameplay as mixed with Covie mostly.

High Charity & Floodgate = Monotonous gameplay I just want to run through and get over with.

Cortana = don't even bother trying to say this was good. Mix in Cortanan interrupting gameplay and it's easily one of the most hated missions of the entire franchise.

Halo = interesting story wise but ultimately the same flood gameplay over and over.

yeah they could work that way as well. There is just soooo much potential for the flood gameplay wise to just throw them out over a few missteps.

Oh, and imagine a flood firefight mode. The mode is perfect for them

Trying out the new Murder Miners update, the community maps they added are awesome and the aim settings are great, but the aiming is still a bit slow. better than before though.

I feel with you on every single point. But: if they were to revamp the flood gameplay-wise the potential is there for lots of awesome encounters.

Halo 3's handling of the Flood was so incredibly interesting in that I'm not sure how they managed to go so horribly wrong given the very solid base they established. The combat forms I feel like they finally nailed (one small caveat: shielded Elite Flood had no shield flare, that shit's dumb), letting the players melee them effectively, continuing along the road of the corpse reanimation that Halo 2 gave them, and balancing it all out by increasing their numbers back up to Halo CE levels and beyond. It felt good, for about 3/4 of one level. Floodgate is one of the best Flood-only levels in the series (the three-way battles of Halo CE make the last half of that a bit harder to judge, which kind of makes me think that that's the only context in which Flood-heavy levels are truly fun, because the player has greater agency to choose what enemy he primarily fights).

The Pure forms took all that and just tossed it out the window, though. Putting a 30-45 minute alien anus adventure into the game probably didn't help. Combined with wallcrawling enemies that could snipe you (this is why I am a bit wary of the Crawler) and could take semi-preposterous amounts of damage depending on which weapon you were using? Ugh. Transforming enemies are really neat, but only if each of the forms they can transform into are fun to fight against. When you get no feedback on whether you're damaging enemies, such as with the Pure tanks, and they have high health pools, that's no good (Hunters' armor breaking apart at the back was an excellent way to solve this). Enemies that die quickly don't really need to telegraph your damage all that well, but even the Combat Forms which are super short-lived lose limbs and stagger, giving valuable feedback that none of the Pure forms do except for the sniper jerks' cowering animation.

Encounters with Flood as it was in the original trilogy - sure, but the fun thing about the Flood is that they're not limited by how they were defined in the first installment. They've gained complexity with each iteration and there's nothing preventing them from becoming a truly intelligent enemy in the future, it would only require the tiniest injection of technobabble.
Primordium already started introducing new twists on the Flood formula with
that Forerunner armor type that contained and controlled(?) its Flood-infected host.
The Flood has nearly infinite storytelling potential and I hope 343 will be interested in exploring that great bit of sci-fi in future games, instead of simply Star Warsing it all up.

If the Needle Rifle was in Halo 3, I'd be a lot happier. I seriously hated the wall crawlers.

The Thursday War is very subtle.

.
Might take a half dozen read throughs to get any hints about Halo 4.

I haven't read the book and don't intend to so I will ask: what happens with the Arbiter?

If Traviss kills my favorite character in all of video gaming I will be.... slightly upset. Hopefully 343 keeps her reigned in on that aspect.
