Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Am I the only one that doesn't want this to happen? To me it'd be the prime definition of 343i selling out.

Making something the fans want is selling out? How did you even come to that conclusion.

If it was a blatant cash in on a bad game then I could understand but Halo 2 is the reason XBL is as successful as it is, Not only that but its the only game in the franchise that is still in SD.

I don't want it to happen unless they don't fix the glitches.

If they're going to remove things like super bounces, getting out of maps, button glitches, tank/ghost launching, etc etc, then leave it alone.

If we get a game that just looks better than, okay.

The french guys from HaloDestiny released a pretty good interview with Frankie. What are the topics? Ya know the 2nd disc, Spartan Ops etc. Some interesting stuff. Just watch it for yourself!

any spoilers?

just make it a "directors cut" of sorts with the addition of the infamous e3 demo added somewhere in the package.

Yeah honestly I would be fine with them just using the H4 engine to remake the campaign that way they wouldn't be tied down with the old Halo 2 engine like they were with CEA.

Agreed, honestly. I think as long as they kept the original geometry and tweaked stuff it'd be fine going that route.

Recreating the best Halo from the original trilogy is selling out?

Let me start by saying that, as a fan, it'd be neat to see and I'd definitely spend my money on it.

However, when I start to think about it, remaking Halo 2 Anniversary doesn't make any sense logistically. It'd make a ton of cash for Microsoft, naturally, but what would it give to the fans?

What I'm about to say some of you aren't going to like, however Halo 2's campaign isn't necessarily the most memorable, nor are any fans really clamoring for an HD remake of Halo 2's campaign. What we want is the multiplayer. Halo 2's multiplayer is what people remember most about Halo 2.

Not to say the campaign's bad by any means, however remastering Halo CE made logical sense. They had time before Halo 4, it built 343i's credibility, Microsoft had their yearly Halo release, it was the 10 year anniversary of Microsoft's largest franchise, it was the game that put the Xbox on the map, the campaign and multiplayer were both equally great, and fans wanted it. Halo 2 doesn't meet that same criteria in my opinion.

If 343i decides to pull the trigger on this, are they going to have to do a Halo 3 remake when the time comes? Probably not. Here's what I could see working for everyone: remaster Halo 2's multiplayer and release it as an Xbox Live title. The campaign was great, but fans aren't demanded an HD remake of the campaign. They want multiplayer. However, many of Halo 2's multiplayer maps have been recreated on the Xbox 360 in Halo 3, Reach, and possibly Halo 4.

However, when would this come out? 2013? Then 343i runs into the issue of dividing the Halo fanbase between Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 4, the same problem they ran into when deciding to do Halo CE Anniversary and Reach. Would Halo 2 Anniversary be the same thing, a clone of Halo CEA, just with Halo 2 and Halo 4, instead of Reach?

Another option would to release a "Halo 2 Anniversary" map pack for Halo 4 mid-2013. Recreate the Halo 2 maps that haven't been recreated for the modern generation of consoles in a large 5-7 map DLC. With the tools at hand, recreating the feel of Halo 2's multiplayer in Halo 4 seems way easier and possible than attempting to recreate Halo CE's in Reach.

That's my thoughts on the matter, anyways. If they do decide to make Halo 2 Anniversary, I'd feel as if it's more Microsoft Milking then a game for the fans. These are just my thoughts and opinions, but either way I'll be throwing my money at 343i solely because it says "Halo" on it.

Hard to describe. None specific ones. I'd say it is safe to watch.

As someone avoiding the Campaign BTS vids and all info regarding the Campaign, should I watch it? I mean, is there anything really I wouldn't know already from the other discussions separate from the Campaign (SpOps/MP)?

Question about The Thursday War:

Does Rtas Vadum make an appearance? He's the Arbiter's right-hand man...er...Sanghelli. Well, at the most he's the Arbiter's equal. His absence has been conspicuous.

I think Halo 2 Anniversary might be better suited for very late into next-gen's trilogy, to be honest. I have a feeling we'll get a formula like this:

Halo 4
Spartan Ops Season 2
Season 3
DLC, maybe a few missions in a sub-season to lead to Halo 5
Halo 5
Spartan Ops 2
DLC
Halo 6
Spartan Ops 3
Spin-Off
Spin-Off
Halo 2 Anniversary.

Even though we all want it sooner rather than later that would make way more sense in my opinion. I have a feeling remakes are going to be very late into the lifespan of each trilogy rather than just being filler between mainline games.

Nope.

Sadly.

Hell,
the Arbiter himself barely shows up.
(kind of a spoiler? Not really?)

The E3 level looks trash to be fair you get virtually every encounter from it playing Mombasa levels.

Huh? No you don't. You don't get any of the encounters and you don't get any of the areas. Some of the animation and lines from the introductory cutscene were kept, but everything else was tossed out. That demo showed off a different game then the one we got. The demo was close in design to Halo: CE than the final product was. A big open environment, with multiple paths of traversal through it, and the option of confronting the enemy on foot or on vehicle. And it layered in a great sense of the war for Earth going on around you. That demo is a major reason why I was so disappointed in the campaign in Halo 2. It promised so much more.

Wouldn't Halo 2 Anniversary come out in 2014 because Halo 2 came out in 2004.

Yeah, I wanted a huge war on earth. That level relied on a lot of scripts and the areas that were not traveled through in the demo were most likely empty with roads leading nowhere.

plz no original Halo 2 multiplayer. It'll be a ghost town after the first two weeks when all the oldbies have driven away the newer players from abusing glitches.

I'd rather have the campaign remade in the current engine of the time and the maps be a map pack code for the existing Halo game.

I'm not buying this game

Clearly the arbiter stayed behind with the chief but that's not what happens in halo 4

The whole game is just a lie they came up with to make some money

I'm conflicted; I love H2 but I would rather have a large community in one game.

I still think Halo 2 should be put onto XBLA but just in 1080p/60FPS. I mean you don't want it to take away the player base of a current Halo title and the best way to do that is XBLA or Map pack but it would MUCH prefer to have the Halo 2 gameplay intact.

A $20 XBLA download would be perfect.

EDIT: Actually have a retail version of Halo 2 Anniversary that comes with a fully remasted Campaign using the current Halo engine and have a download code for Halo 2 Arcade and price it at $40

So for those who want MP only they can just pay for the Arcade game.

I stopped using those things after I selected "Language" and "Good Connection" and got a team of fellas with gamertags in Spanish whose bios said they were all in Mexico City. A real quality product, those buttons.

Just clips to (most likely) next week's episode.

Any chance it showed the Covenant? Im dying to see what they look like.

Thursday War is pretty one-sided. It had so much potential...

Yup, its not a bad book, but it just doesn't flesh as many options out as I would like. Also, it doesn't really go anywhere. Still, it has some pretty cool teases, even if we saw em coming from a mile away.

I don't know about H2 anniversary but 343 clearly couldn't go wrong with a "Classics" map pack. It would sell really well.

It's just a question of figuring out what maps would still play well with Halo 4's sandbox.

I'm really hoping for a Terminal remake at some point.
