RESIDENT EVIL 6 |OT| No Trope Left

Can anyone tell me how long the Chapter 5's are?

I have to pack for a trip tomorrow. Me and my buddy have done chapters 1-4 for all campaigns. Just the three chapter 5's left. Trying to figure out when I can do it tomorrow so we can finish it up and he can still play Ada and whatnot while I'm gone throughout the week on business.

It's been taking us around an hour and a half per chapter (we like to break boxes and look for emblems...). Are the fifth chapters any shorter/longer than usual?

There's one in
Ada's scenario I believe. The fight where you have to get the key off the chainsaw monster. The area has it and a bunch of corpses.
Holy shit, that actually explains how zombies are there for that fight -- it must've released one last blast of gas before dying, turning some nearby humans into zombies.

Depending on how long it takes you to figure out the boss fights in Chris and Leon's chapters, I'd say about an hour for each chapter?

I just finished chapters 1-3 with everyone, and I can't believe the low ratings for this game. I'm constantly blown away by how cool it is. The catacombs (Leon/Helena) have some of the coolest water, and lighting I've seen on consoles this gen. Jake and Sherry's snow level blew me away. That whiteout effect is gorgeousssssssssssssssssss! Then the ice columns later on in that level, wow! Chris chapter 3 was the only one so far that I didn't love, and even then, it's not bad. There are lots of cool elements in it.

Ustanak seems like the most intimidating big man in horror games since Pyramid Head. He's much cooler than I first expected.

Also, am I the only one seeing some major similarities between the graphical/lighting styles of Resident Evil 6 and Dragon's Dogma? Both games had fantastic use of extreme darkness, and some really creative lighting. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see a snow level in Dragon's Dogma 2 after playing RE6.

felt like a Nemesis ripoff honestly. Full campaign spoilers, but
I was exhausted after seeing him survive being gored with a drill, dropped from an exploding helicopter, and knocked into lava. lol, after a certain point it was like, "Ok, I get it. Let's run/hide/shoot again. He was the worst part of Jake's scenario.

Man, when it comes to the different chapters/scenarios of RE6, one man's trash is another man's treasure: People here saying they love Jake's campaign best and Chris' the least when it's the opposite for me (though I still liked Jake's campaign), and now some guy not loving the Ustanak? And another guy said out of everyone's first three chapters, he liked Chris Ch. 3 the least -- that's like one of the best chapters! (Yes, I liked the Jeep, which is a polarizing part, admittedly, but damn the boss right before it is amazing, as well as the chopper encounters before that.)

HA, it's funny seeing how everyone is so different with what they like best about this game. Capcom made four campaigns to cater to everyone and just created even more wildly divergent opinions, lol. Hope they're ready to make 10 campaigns in RE7!

I separated your two statements for a little perspective. I don't feel the game is deserving of a friggin' 4.5, but cool looking water and lighting effects a good game do not make. As a game, it's kind of all over the place quality-wise. To me, the metascore it has (for PS3 anyway) seems quite fair, perhaps slightly too high, to be honest.

He just had this really boring generic design like every other monster the series has put out since RE4. He was always going to be compared Nemesis and honestly he had very little chance of matching up to him to begin with. It is a little unfair to call him ripoff since Jake's campaign actually seems to be conscious attempt to emulate RE3 to begin with. That's probably why I like it so much.

Looking at RE6 purely objectively, I'd dock points for no proper tutorial teaching the mechanics, some poorly telegraphed QTEs, and for some rough transitions where the camera is ripped away from you in real time ("HEY LOOK AT THIS PLANE CRASHING INTO THIS BUILDING, DO YOU SEE IT DO YOU SEE IT, WELL DO YA DO YA DO YA"). I originally said that objectively, it would be a 7/10, but really I feel 8/10 is more appropriate.

In terms of my personal enjoyment of RE6, though, it's a solid 12 out of 10. RE6 is awesome all around, as far as my tastes are concerned. But at the same time I could understand how it could've been tighter here or there.

I could write a huge essay on just that level if I had the time, to breakdown all the different elements that worked well: like the huge level design,
the enemies ambushing you all over the place, the interesting co-op moments when you split up and have to work together to get through traps, or the swimming part which was amazing. Swimming through the bodies was crazy, and coming up for air in those claustrophobic spaces was fun in co-op.
I was just mentioning something that I didn't see anyone really bring up. We already had that huge thread just about the controls, and I keep finding even more subtle moves that help you in combat, like being able to sprint directly into a wall and instantly change direction, or being able to cancel Jake's dashing attack with the backflip. So far, I think everything has been fantastic except the story, which is a little weak. But I'm not done yet so that might change. I would also like more puzzles, but it's not a deal-breaker.

I just don't see how anyone can score this game lower than an 8/10, personally. But whatever. It's clearly a polarizing game.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/xbox360/605604-resident-evil-6/faqs/65111

That guide has a bunch of details about the mercs mode.

RE5 had this weird system with the combo bonuses where they would actually give no extra points if your combo was already high. According to this guide, the system is similar. Meaning that if the combo is over 9, there's actually no point in ever getting combo bonuses.

I tested this ingame, and it seems to work that way. I never understood why they had this system, but oh well. It's something to keep in mind. If your combo is 10 or higher: never take combo bonuses.

So what you're saying is that you can get the combo bonus at the very beginning, and it'll count for the first 9 kills, but after that, don't bother (if you're going for a 150)?

You know who I really want in mercs and is already in RE6? The awesome looking BSAA soldiers.

Honestly, I kinda think Agent looks shitty... but the generic BSAA guys that roll with Chris and Piers during chapter 2 and 3 look cool as hell. Gimme.
The BSAA guys with flamethrowers would be an awesome addition to Mercs.

I like the look of the dudes decked out in full kit... I think they look cooler than Agent.

Agent bothers me because he looks too bulky round the middle... nothing on the shoulders and then this bulky gear around the middle, looks weird imo. But still, more mercs the merrier.

I have to say this is one of the most fun games I've played all year. It has it's problems that have all be rehashed at least 1000 times but Capcom's biggest fault was not instructing players how to play the damn game. Something the gaming media it seems needed BADLY.

Game is fantastic and it's a blast playing with friends and playing with a friend and having Agent Hunt mode is some of the most intense gaming I've ever had the pleasure and horror to experience. To those who play as the dog, I fucking hate you. ;)

RE: Agent Hunt: There's nothing quite like being a crypt zombie in Leon Ch. 3 and repeatedly throwing yourself into the abyss in the underground ruins, lol.

Though my level of enjoyment with the game Isn't as high as yours, I agree with your sentiment. There is plenty here that makes me feel it was money well spent buying this game, in spite of all the elements that frustrate and disappoint.

As an aside, manic stick-jiggling QTEs should be banned from all games. I hate that shit with a passion. Hate, hate, hate -- kill it with fucking fire!

I suck at mercs. I feel like I'm putting in about the same efforts as I did in RE5 mercs, but am recieving much worse scores. Tips?

Already watched several videos, looks like it's important to keep the combo up...

"Let's go free that guy trapped under the car."
"Let's free this panicking mom from the train."

I found it funny that in his later chapters, he and Helena pretty much step out of the main plot (though, I haven't finished the other campaigns) and say they're gonna stay in the city to "help out" with the survivors.

Then, they successfully help NO SURVIVORS :p

RE6 mercs is just a collection of worst elements from previous mercs.

Leon's campaign is really the most unfocused of the bunch. I mean it isn't a bad setup but so much of it just goes nowhere.

You motorboatin sonofabitch!
I try, but her tie gets in the way. She's so classy, wearing that tie!

Duo Mining the Depths is a blast. After awhile it gets really intense with bloodshots, dogs, BSAA soilders, and firemen all coming after you, I love it. Of the 3 default maps I think its the best one to play on with a partner.
Yeah, Duo Mining the Depths strikes a good difficulty curve -- starts out light enough, but really heats up by the end when they're throwing everything and the kitchen sink at you. Those BSAA zombies, in particular, can really drop your combos. AIM FOR THE CROTCH!

If they do Jill I'd love a throwback... REmake Mansion Jill and RE3 Jill. (none of that low poly stuff, I don't like those... waste of a costume imo)

Her weapons loadouts... um... idk.

Mercs 3D had a great RE3 Jill skin. It was probably downscaled from a higher-end render -- they should just port that to RE6. :)

Id buy(actual money, not RE points) every Chris & Jill costume if they released them,
STARS
Made in Heaven
Arrange
RE3
RE3 police uniform
STARS prototype(CV)
End of Umbrella
BSAA(5)
BSAA(LIN)
Revelations Wetsuits
Revelations Winter

Leon needs
RPD
RE4 coat
RE4 without coat

Not sure what else they can give Sherry, her alt costume is perfect already.

This is one of the only games where I'm really pretty excited about the DLC possibilities. Costumes, extra mercs characters (Sheva and Claire please), Mercs stages, and even story expansions. It's pretty hard to say that the game doesn't have enough content for $60, so it's hard to be bitter this time.
