Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure |OT| This Is Not Your Father's Spyro

Hey, Fernoca, why did they move the first topic to the community anyway? I thought it deserved its own place on the gaming forum. I'm just curious.

As for the portal, it is the same size, but its features are a bit different. The bottom of the portal now lights up the same color as the top. However, the symbols on the side of the portal do not light up anymore. I hear it also lights up much brighter now and the wire is very long.

I don't know if this is exclusive to the GITD portal, but here is how it lights up -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCfIXa6y6C0&feature=player_embedded

It seems like the light shines through the entire portal. Pretty cool.

So, we are 7 days out from the release here in the US. Believe me when I say, that when I post my day 1 haul, people are either gonna laugh at me and call me stupid or just think I am insanely insane.

I also have 3 Starters paid off with them (1 360, 2 3DS).

Plus I have to go to TRU and pickup my 2 preordered Legendary Triple Packs, plus 3 Legendary Bouncers (if he's available on day 1 in NA). Finally, I have to go to Target and get 2 Granite Crushers, followed by Gamestop to pick up my 2 preordered Golden Dragonfire Battle Packs.

My last stop on my Skylanders run, will be Sams, where I will pickup 6 more Starter Packs (2 Wii, 2 3DS, 1 PS3, 1 360, all with GITD Cynder and Portal of Power).

Total cost for my Skylanders run on day 1? Oh, it's nothing, just a mere $1369.84. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go tie my feet to a brick and jump into a lake.

Toys For Bob had to go and make a great game like this. THANKS TOYS FOR BOB! It's your fault. :p

Why are you buying so many copies of the game and also why are you buying doubles and triples of some figures. Seems like a waste.

I doubt he even responds to questions like this anymore.

To make a long story short, he has several children who each receive their own entire collection. He also buys himself three of every figure. One is kept sealed. The others are used to play each upgrade path in the game.

My wal-mart stocked up the Giants early. I tried to buy the game since it was on the shelves, but the register stopped it.
Did pick up two giants though.

It's almost like what Zing said.

But, if you're new here (and welcome if you are), I will explain.

I "USED" to buy 5 of each character. 3 for me (2 to open for each upgrade path, 1 to hang on my wall), and 2 for my son and oldest daughter. Well, that's changed. My son and daughter only use them long enough to beat the game and then the Skylanders collect dust. The first game simply didn't have enough for them to do, to hold their interest this long (TFB should hire me to help them come up with a game that is full of secrets and stuff to do for a great while as I have tons of ideas).

So, with this game, it is 3 of all things for certain reasons.

1: Incase each of the new characters can only have one upgrade path. I can have two to take each character down each upgrade path.

2: To have a complete card and sticker set, unused, while another set of cards and stickers can be used for a new Skylanders carrying case, as well as stapling a set of cards to my Skylanders wall.

So, even if new Skylanders and Giants can dynamically switch upgrade paths like Series 2 characters can, I would still want extra cards and stickers, so I still need at least 3 of everything.

I blame TFB for making a fun game. It's all their fault. :p

Is GitD Fright Rider exclusive to Australian retailers (JBHIFI specifically)? I just received email notification to confirm my PS3 Starter Set has shipped with the additional character and I was just curious...

Well, I hope everyone in the PAL regions are enjoying Giants and the hunt.

Two more days for us. Just wait until you see pics of my day 1 haul. It's insane.

Correction, it's now PAL specific territories, as I have one in my possession and another reserved for a certain someone. *looks up one post*

Just a couple weeks ago my Walmart had nothing but red Drill Sergeants. They must have come in their own case.

Today, while picking up my Giants stuff, I noticed a ton of old figures stuffed on a shelf. Poor Drobot.

I just picked up the original game + portal + a bunch of characters at the pawn shop for PS3. All mint condition and then I got it home and realized it was missing the little USB dongle that plugs into the PS3 to connect the portal of power.

I called up Activision and told them my plight, and they were like "not a big deal, I'll send you one out. should be there in 7-10 business days." No charge. That's pretty sweet considering I bought it 2nd hand, and was upfront about my situation (I called trying to purchase a replacement.)

I CAN NOT WAIT. I totally avoided this game for a long time thinking it would be junk .. then I played Giants @ Best Buy. I had to have it, and my gamestop sucks for used stuff, and our local pawn shop always has sweet deals on video game stuff and ALWAYS has tons of it.

So yea, I scored:

Terrafin (Earth) (/w his Pirate Seas Adventure Pack accessories)
Flameslinger (Fire)
Stump Smash (Life)
Spyro (Magic)
Trigger Happy (Tech)
Hex (Undead)
Gill Grunt (Water)
Whirlwind (Wind)

Original Game for PS3

Portal of Power (missing USB stick that Activision awesomely is replacing for free)

all for $26.99!!!

Whoever pawned that setup apparently knew what they were doing because the bundle contains one of each element.

Now I am trying to decide if I should buy Giants (Portal Owners Pack) for PS3, or if I should get the Wii U version (which I would prefer) ... I am really hype to start playing this game and I am not ashamed that I am WAY too old to be interested in it LOL.

I wanted to share my story/excitement after reading like the first 10 pages of this thread. Such a fun concept/game! Oh, they had a demo Pop Fizz character at the demo setup in Best Buy. He's so cool, that I am sure he will be my first official "new" character I buy.

HEY! You weren't supposed to tell anyone. Remember, we do business in a dark alley, while noire music plays, and we always - ALWAYS - wear our trenchcoats we got at Flasher-Con 2011.

I stuck to my original plan and managed to resist impulse buys today.

I grabbed:

3DS starter pack for Punch Pop Fizz and the game (from Amazon, so no GitD Cynder)
Crusher
Swarm
Bouncer

Fright Rider
Pop Fizz (this is the only new character I'm buying all variants I can of)

I saw Chill and the Dragonfire Cannon pack, but will wait for Lightcore Chill and Shroomboom. I was originally planning to get Lightcore Drobot, but after hearing that LCs act as series 1 characters and seeing how poorly implemented Drobot's LC is, I decided to pass.

I'll be waiting impatiently for the WiiU version before getting a console version of the game, and since the nearest Toys R Us is 50 miles away I'll be waiting on Wave 2 and any Legendaries I pick up until I'm out that far.

EDIT: didn't realize we had a new OT for Giants.

So is there a breakdown anywhere that has all the specific packs for Giants? I went to TRU yesterday and they have a HUGE display. I was disappointed that I couldn't find any three packs with at least two new figures except the one with the cannon. And they only had one single with a new figure, "Freight Rider" or something. Plus, in case anyone doesn't know, its Buy One Get One 40% off on everything.

Check the Giants thread for more info:

There are currently two triple-packs released, and both have only one "new" figure inside. Fright Rider is currently the only new single that is not also in a triple-pack.

I originally had all my Skylanders on a bookshelf. I moved earlier this year, and the bookshelf is in another room, so I simply put all the Skylanders in a plastic bin which I kept under the sofa. I've always wanted to put them back on display and have them easily accessible.

With the release of Giants, I decided to finally make this a reality. I initially wanted a small bookshelf. Then I started looking at night-tables, which may work well. After browsing Ikea, I found the perfect shelf.

It is labelled for use as a TV stand, but it is exactly what I was looking for in a shelf. I wanted it relatively low in height, but wide enough to hold all the figures and the portal. This photo is of the complete Spyro's Adventure set. I will be adding the Giants figures this weekend. I plan to place the eight Giants on the bottom shelf, and the eight new figures on the top shelf. I am not (currently) planning to buy any series 2 figures, so this will work well.

I am giving my daughter Giants this weekend, but I already opened and tested the new portal. The new, wired portal sits on top of the shelf, and is plugged in at all times. This has the weird effect of having the portal be lit while playing other Wii games, but I guess I can unplug the USB cable if it gets bothersome.

How do adventure packs work for this?

If I buy a loose figure like this: http://www.toywiz.com/looseempireice.html

will I be able to access the new world? Or do I have to buy the actual pack?

Bumping a really old thread.

But about your question: yes, you only need the adventure figure, with is that one. The other figures in the pack just give you extra powers. Keep in mind that those adventure packs only work with Spyro's Adventure and Giants, not Swap Force.

Thanks for this.

I recently picked up S:SA for 3DS and love it!

I also received Swap Force for PS4 (early VDay gift). I'm expecting Swap Force for 3DS (+ expansion sets for that game) as a Birthday gift. I just picked up Giants 3DS and am deciding between:

Giants on WiiU

S:SA on Wii (via WiiU)

Which game is better? I've heard mixed critiques about both and would like to know what the core Skylanders crowd has to say ^_^

Also, does S:SA work on the WiiU (via Wii mode)? I should find that out - as it's my only other home console system, besides PS4 (which only allows Swapforce).

It works exactly as on the Wii.

I prefer the first game overall. I loved it and felt it was one of the best games of the decade. Level design and writing is top notch.

The only thing the second game had over the first was difficulty, and even that is marginal. The writing and plot is inferior. The level design is not that interesting, especially since Skystones is forced upon you so early, and it feels like the tutorial extends all the way to chapter five, which is overly long considering the game is significantly shorter and we all know how to play already

Consider Giants to be an expansion pack. Go for the first game.
