Welcome to Wii U's BC for Wii: It's a console within a console! :(

So we all know that the Wii U will support Wii games. NCL has a bunch of details on the Japanese site for Wii U including BC info.

-Wii software (disc software, WiiWare, VC) must be accessed within the Wii mode and won't appear on the Wii U's menu.
-All software will run in 480p/480i and not in HD.
-Wii games (including VC) will not run on Game Pad.
-You must download all WiiWare/VC through the Wii Shop Channel, not to be confused with the Wii U's eShop. It's unclear whether or not you'll have to re-download all of your old downloadable games through the shop or if they'll come over in the Wii To Wii U transferring.
-WiiConnect24 will not work on Wii U.

May I be the first to say, welcome to your Nintendo-based DD hell.

DId this need another thread?

Seriously, every little thing about this system

I am excited for Wii-U too but really?

Do we know if we can play some games with the game pad even though we can't play them on the game pad?

No megathreads anymore so where would it go? Don't worry, next year GAF will be flooded with Xbox / Playstation topics.

Nintendo is not winning me.

I'm honestly not sure what you guys would expect from this. It would be nice to have the games run on the Wii U's infrastructure but it's pretty hard to have game pad support when so many games were developed with motion controls in mind. It's also a bit weird you have to download content from the Wii Store instead of the Wii U one. Does this mean they're going to slowly trickle VC content on the Wii U eShop all over again?

I'm not constantly checking Wii-U threads, so I appreciate the information. Why's it a big deal to you? You know about it, don't click the thread.

Personally, it gives me more hope that the Homebrew Channel can be installed. With Wii Mode in its own separate sandbox, I'm sure it'll be easier to maintain the Homebrew Channel there.

It was likely set up that way because the Wii's hacked to death, anyway.

I think it did need a thread. I am for new news for new threads, and I know there have been a good amount of positive Wii U threads. I was wondering when somebody would make the thread for this pretty big, but also negative Wii U news. lol

That right there is a huge missed opportunity. Putting all that stuff on the eShop could reinvigorate all that old software in terms of visibility.

I'm more disappointed at the implication I'll still need to use Wii Points on Wii Shop games, and I was kind of dreading that anyway. I'll just have to hope they eventually make it so at least the VC games can be bought and natively run on the Wii U (WHILE preserving my Wii purchases, otherwise the whole initiative will be eternally FUBAR'd), but I imagine that's going to be similar to the Vita with PS1 games and potentially leave several titles in limbo (like the TG16 titles).

Inconvenient, but not the biggest problem. The real issue is you're limited to Wii controllers and Classic controller for playing VC stuff and can't use the pad or new pro controller. (esp. since gamecube controllers aren't compatible now)

I was afraid of this.
Seems a bit lazy from nintendo. They really couldn'¨t be bothered to do any better than this?
Does this mean the virtual console service in basically dead?
I was really hoping the virtual console service would get a new boost for life with thw wii u.
At least I really hope they'll patch it so you can access the vc games from the wii u menu and play them on the gamepad.

So it was exactly what they said it was for the last two years?

How dastardly.
This information has been known since E3 2011 and E3 2012.

I believe the whole "Wii sandbox" is new. People assumed before that their virtual console games and WiiWare games would be integrated in Wii U and Wii U eShop, like DS and DSiWare games on 3DS.

Now, you have two separate shops (Wii and Wii U). It is not known whether you have two different points totals, but it is known that you can't transfer your Wii points to Wii U and buy Wii U games.

Don't even joke about that! D:

Seriously, not even supporting Virtual Console on Wii U's gamepad (or even the pro pad) is pretty bad. In fact, this whole setup looks really, well, shit.

I seriously hope this is just a temporary thing, and that a system update 6-12 months from now merges the two together.

now you'll be able to rebuy the games with smear filters you can't turn off.

Really only disappointed by VC not being natively emulated on Wii U (for GamePad support, mainly). Someone mentioned it would be difficult since each game would have to be individually supported, but I hope they get around to doing that over the coming months.

I don't really care about GC because I still have it and Wii but yea I'd love to play old games on the pad.

It's a good thing for me that there's no Wii games I'd ever want to play again. So non-issue for me. Yay!

Don't PS3 and 360 upscale PS2 and OG Xbox games? (I have no idea)

I don't know about 360, but I think my PS3 fat did.

I was afraid of this.

At least they're consistent. They've managed to get me to expect the worst and to be surprised when they do exceed my low expectations. That was beaten home for me when the 3DS launched without a store and without the ability to link me to my purchases instead of my hardware.

I still have my GC too, but I don't have a classic controller so unless I buy one, I can't play my SNES and N64 stuff. Not mention the classic controller isn't particularly comfortable and has to be tethered to a Wiimote.
