Sadly I emailed bsangel trying to get halo 4 audio, we tried that idea but the map atmosphere sound makes it weird.

It just seems like 2 steps backs for us..

Fuck it.

Let's go guys. Pack your shit. We're going over to CoD.

I think you are misinterpreting what I'm saying, I'm not asking for the current features that CoD has, I'm just asking for something that has been around since 2007 in Halo. Halo 4 is a GOOD game but their lack of small features (which make Halo what it is) and the lack of polish hurt the game a lot.

Kinda bummed out on episode 2 of Spartan Ops.

'Oh, so, all of those places you cleared out are overrun with enemies again. Mind fixing that?'

...'oh, and prometheans can just spawn wherever, so no matter how many times you clear out an area... scientists are more than likely going to die and you'll have to go check out wtf happened'

If i hear 'egg head' one more time i'm going to slap a bitch

love the first episode because it was new a fresh. Second is lackluster and repeat.

One thing I will never argue with team downer on is features and options. Halo 4 is a step sideways in that regard at best; a reluctant step backward at worst.

Nah I got you. I was making my own joke, not a hit at you or anything.

Edit: also, I just asked David Candland what he thinks about H4's UI. So damn interested. I would seriously listen to a podcast where all he did was talk about UI.

Sarah Palmer has to be the most irritating and annoying character to ever grace the Halo series. All I want is for someone to tell her to fuck off and kick her in the ovaries.

Sorry, it's pointless for me to post my disappointments anymore. Shouldn't be shittin up this place. Those of you who are enjoying Halo 4, keep enjoying it. I may see you again in a few months :) For now though, I take a break from Halo and let the dust settle.

Lurk status initiated.

none of you like me anyways
I like and own your shirt so I like and own you by association.

sadly I think they are priming her to be that "Sgt. Johnson" style character in the next games

so I decided to get Cryptum and the Halo 4 art book, now trying to decide if I should get building better worlds or the halo visual guide

Woah, BLOPS 2 really took it out of the Halo 4 population...

I mean I know it's night time for Americans, but the top playlist, Infinity Slayer had 14,000 people on. Other nights around this time it's been much higher.

I have like 6k XP to go to Wetworks-5, so I decided to do a Regicide game and get it out of the way.

It was only like 25k XP to from Wetworks-4 to 5, and now it's 39k XP from 5 to 6.

Uuughhh. Surprise! It's going to be a grind.

I've been amazed at how quick it is to get to the mid-30s where I am now. First few games it felt like I was going up multiple ranks at a time. I know you want to shower new players to make them feel loved, but I couldn't even keep track of all the bars being filled.

It was actually also that yesterday.

We see those bars fill up and we just know that we can repeat it with the next game. The next game just doesn't feel as good, but you know you can get back that first feeling. That first feeling is what you need. Just another game, it'll give you that feeling - you know it. Maybe this time will be different.

343i are pushing that bar-filling on us, knowing we'll get hooked.

It was actually also that yesterday.

Wait, really? I could have sworn it was at least double that. I don't remember seeing any playlists in the hundreds.

Without the ever-present possibility of completing challenges, unlocking new gear, and leveling up, league play feels detached from modern Call of Duty tradition. It's a strange sensation, but it feels liberating, allowing you to focus on the action at hand without the temptation to play in certain ways to target certain rewards. League play has the potential to shift the way that people play the game they've been enjoying for years, and that's an exciting prospect.
CoD successfully fakes-out Microsoft, jukes away from unlocks and toward competitive ranking system, leaves Halo 4 looking confused.

There's never been a mention or explanation on the removal of Red Xs, has there? Is it a bug?

They're on the motion tracker now, so 343i probably thought it added too much clutter to the screen (lol), much like the secondary weapon icon.

Is it impossible for more than 1 company to listen to a community?

343 done a good job in certain parts, just has to polish a lot.

Solution. Play Blops2 until Ranks come in and Halo 4 is out of beta :).

Lol I kid, I kid, just play what you guys all enjoy. There are things I love about H4 and things that leave me scratching my head, im going to go pick up CoD today at 9:30AM EST and I'll see what it's all about.

First Call of Duty game I'm not picking up since COD4 started it all. Black Ops was terrible, MW3 was equally terrible, I can't imagine this will be any less terrible; not to mention how cheesy the E3 trailer was. Bad graphics, mundane plotline and lame setting.

It is interesting to hear they have a ranked system though. Why oh why can't they just have ranked and social playlists; I hate that my K/D is all-encompassing, it means I can't just run around in Zombies (Sorry, Infection...sorry, flood) without worrying about my K/D.

I know I shouldn't care about it to begin with, but it's the one solid statistic that relays how well I am doing, so I concentrate on it.

P.S. I'm only a 28 and getting paired with 50s over and over, I feel like trueskill is trying to crush my K/D by giving me opponents who have way more time than me to play this game.

I like her. Sure she has some bad dialogue during gameplay, but it's not all that bad, IMO. Really needs to be fleshed out more in Halo 5 I think.

Anyone know what's with the aliasing on the armour previews?

Questions:

What don't you like about the UI? Be specific. What's confusing?
Which weapons are overpowered?
What are some big annoyances with maps or gametypes on certain maps? Are there parts of maps not utilized well?
What's missing in the custom games menu? What can't be removed or edited?
What don't you like about Spartan OPs?
What don't you like about campaign?
Is there anything thoroughly annoying, other than auto-pickups, in any of the gametypes right now?
Found any glitches? Where and when?
What's wrong with FORGE?

I don't know who these are for exactly, but because I'm bored I'm going to answer them anyway.

1. It's messy - Too complicated to do the simpliest of things. Player cards take too much space on screen and the whole horizontal layout is a complete step back from Reach / 3 / 2.
2. One shot kill weapons can suck my dick, namely the Promethean weapons in particular. I have no problem with the rail gun/laser/sword or whatever.
3. Don't really have a problem with the maps. Though Complex just seems random and the building overlooking red teams' flag seems like it was put there to piss the defenders off.
4. Haven't played customs so don't know.
5. Recycled environments seem so cheap, especially after 343i said numerous times how big of an undertaking the thing is. Was it unreasonable to expect new maps each week? Probably, but 343i as usual didn't expand on it and let our expectations get the better of us.
6. Campaign... The marines are so stupid looking. I can't stress this enough, some of the design changes in this game are so fucking stupid. How can we go from the badass looking marines in Reach to the random guys with green and orange track pants and buckteeth in 4? It doesn't make sense at all.
7. Pinging a sniper is impossible now. Any jackass can sit at the back of the map with a sniper and you're absolutely helpless to take him out. The whole flinching aspect is stupid and should be replaced with de-scoping.

Too many power weapons, not enough normal weapons and instant respawns are really bad. BTB is a complete clusterfuck because of it.

...

Probably sounds a bit more negative than I want to be. I still really like the game and overall 343i did a great job... It's just some things confuse and frustrate me.

-Too many things are hidden behind menus. As party leader, you can't easily see who's in your party. Plus the active roster is worse than the Reach version. People aren't ordered in alphabetical order and it gives less info now.
-AR feels like it is too powerful. The same goes for the boltshot, incineration cannon and binary rifle.
-I feel like there are too many big team maps and too few smaller maps for slayer and objective. Plus some map/gametype combos are weird. Like CTF on Complex and Abandon. Solace has some very weird sight lines and it feels you're being shot at from every direction. Abandon and Complex both have easily campable structures. Tank and Gauss hog shouldn't be on Excile.
-The UI overall should be more like classic Halo UI. Imo, they gave you more info without using more space.
-SpOps right now re-uses to many assets from campaign and previous missions. Objectives aren't that entertaining, the story right now is barely plays a role in the actual missions. Death doesn't have any weight to it.
-In campaign, I didn't like the Prometheans as an enemy. They took too many bullets to take down and the teleporting of the knight was very annoying. Some missions felt repetitive. Too many times, the chief had to press a butten/insert Cortana. Story was disappointing for me and some parts didn't really made sense/were't explained properly
-Auto pick up hasn't being annoying for me, thus far, but I haven't played much oddball/CTF yet.
-Haven't encountered any glitches yet luckily.
-Haven't used Forge yet so I won't comment about this.

My main problem with the UI is how much useful information it hides or even takes away for some reason. Some examples:
  • There is reason why COD and previous Halo had that specific lobby layout, it gave information fast, options were seen instantly and everything was on one page.
  • I get kind of understand why they changed it, they want you to instantly see the core tenants but they have just made it worse by simplifying things that never needed simplifying. Now everything is scattered.
  • Why are the usernames on the title card upside down? That doesn’t even make sense, I should see their names in an instant. I should not have to scroll to see the names.
  • The Spartan title card already feels cluttered for no reason. Why did they add “Spartan IV” on the bottom? Why does that even have to be there? Why not add the username there?
  • Your emblem now is super small that you can barely see it and even the bigger one behind your Spartan looks vague (more of nitpick but still).
  • When you vote for a map the tab goes to the forefront of the lobby. I can vaguely see what people are voting. I don’t see why it is important for me to see who is in the lobby at the moment of voting, even if I have cast my vote.
  • Why are the people in the lobby being added to my active roster? I really don’t see how this helps. Speaking of Active Roster, people should be listed alphabetically and people who are offline should not even show it.
  • During Spartan Ops I got a barrage of Challenge icons popping off for everything. Should only pop in when major mile stones have been completed.
  • Challenges and Commendations should not be buried in the Change Spartan and Settings menu, why undermine a core element your pushing by putting it there?

What don't you like about Spartan OPs?
Spartan Ops should really have a checkpoint system like campaign. Now there is no real challenge in it, instant respawn kind of undermines. I can understand it in matchmaking, but because I play solo most of the time I like to have a challenge. Other than that so far the objectives in it have all been the same, clear the room of enemies. Seeing as this is kind of spin-off, I wish they would explore more or change it up considerably. Do more stuff out of the box, this seems like the perfect place to experiment with changing up the sandbox.

Still it is too soon to write it off, but I hope it gets better because the concept itself sounds ace. The CGI stuff has been fantastic though and the voice acting in the levels is awesome.

I'll list some stuff I dislike about Forge:

  • Block objects now have rounded edges, which results in small gaps all over the place. Mind though, that bullets and grenades don't actually pass through these gaps but it still makes maps look messy and it's completely unnecessary.
  • Objects with railings on them are now incompatible with nearly all other objects. In Reach bridge objects with railings were 2 units wide, including the railings. In Halo 4 these pieces are now 2 units wide, excluding the railings. Including the railings they are 2.4 units wide. Similarly, the 4x4 corner object now is 4.2 units wide instead of 4 like in Reach.
  • The Coliseum Wall object is 9.8 units long. If it was 10 units long it would be much easier to fit with the rest of the objects.
  • I could go on and on about objects sizes and shapes not making sense but I haven't (and won't) looked at all the objects extensively. Most of the stuff that I mentioned in post still applies and a ton of other stuff could be added to a list like this for Halo 4.
  • No precision forging, apparently "overlooked" by Certain Affinity. Possibly patched in later on.
  • No flat natural terrain areas to Forge on.
  • Dynamic lighting makes most enclosed maps look very bland, more so than in Reach.
  • Category object limit is still in place.
  • The position and orientation of objects is still changed slightly after saving and reloading a map.
  • Still no option to create a picture of the map for in the menu.
  • Still no good way for Forgers to create truly unique looking maps.

Certain Affinity doesn't get Forge and has barely done anything to improve it in any significant way, in some aspects they even made it inferior to Reach's version. I tried forging maps and especially the way how they fucked up some of the objects completely took away any motivation I had to build something.

I'm gonna throw in my 2cents for the UI.
Halo 4 UI is by no means bad. But even Halo Wars did it's best to copy what was on offer in halo 3's UI.
Wars/3/odst/reach all built up a familiarity which should have been tweaked if not unchanged.
Not broke don't fix it.
Ah growing pains.

Mission 4 on Legendary. Something tells me I'm going to reeeeally dislike the
"Hold your position!" fight I'm about to do.

Here we go....

Which part is that again?
The bit in the jungle where you have to hold your position with the marines?

If you go right up the back near the turrets (away from the door), you've got a nice flanking position. I got through it without dying actually. Rail gun helps with the Knights a lot

What I did:
Kill the dogs as they come with headshots. Then kill the watchers then the Knight with the turret. Rinse repeat per wave.

I miss infection. It was so flexible...

(not really a spoiler)
I actually managed to hold them off with the Machine Gun Turret alone. I was surprised. Prometheans don't have plasma grenades! Take advantage of that.

Yeah it kinda sucked until I asked GAF for help too. Go to the farthest machine gun and shoot from there. When your shields are down, the path continues (I never noticed that) and you can hide there. Railgun+DMR/LR is a good combo

There's only one of that type of fight in the level, dear.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, all. I got through it after a couple of deaths. It's one of my least favorite
"Hold your position!" fights of any Halo game. Thankfully there's only one.
