wow vita: next year's 3ds release schedule makes it even harder, especially with dq vii and mh4. sony should do something with its "third parties"...

What can be done at this point? If you pitch something to a publisher, they'll just look at these sales and say no thanks. They need to do something big 1st party wise.

How are the 3DS and Vita faring in NA and Europe??

Does the 3DS dominate those markets as well? I'm really out of loop when it comes to HW numbers outside of Japan..

No. They posted some graphs during their financial report. Europe is showing signs of things getting better, but in no way killer like Japan. US seems to be struggling quite badly in comparison; didn't build on XL/NSMB2 as well as it should. But then maybe the holiday will bring better things there.

Its not a great outlook; but its not a terrible one either.

I don't even think Sony can even do anything the third parties in Japan at this point. Vita is pretty much 360 level. Barely anyone is going to want to develop for it money hats or not. It's only on Sony software to save this.

We have seen major discrepancies in the past, then not necessarily Media Create number for Animal Crossing doesn't includes download cards.

A poorly thought out product that learnt no lessons from the past? Can't say it does sadly.
Least Vita doing this bad should have some soul searching over PS4, if it were doing 'a poor mans decent' I could see Sony learning nothing.

But they surely must have noticed now...right?...

It has some of the best portable games ever, imo. I think it deserves a lot of success, not to mention Tearaway and Soul Sacrifice look great.

Even if they did it will take months, years maybe before these games see the light of day, that’s not going to help them right now

Too bad those games are getting sacrificed and torn to pieces when they release, I'd like SS to do well but if it releases alongside MH4 it's going to be in twouble..

Absolutely amazing debut for Animal Crossing (especially considering DD Cards, as Famitsu seems to do), and very solid week for 3DS hw numbers. Also other 3DS softwares are doing well (New Mario is holding, BDFF too)
Everything else is flat (PS3, maybe PSP) or very bad (everything else)

I would assume they meant Christmas in Europe/US where AC and CoD are sure to boost sales.

It'll boost sales, by how much is the question. If not by very much with these sales in Japan, I can't see much of a reason for Sony not to call it quits, unless they're somehow breaking even/ hoestly expecting to make a profit down the line from it.

Counting the weeks until 3DS LTD > PS3 LTD.

Estimated weeks?
Considering that this week 3DS numbers are due to AC debut and that AC is the biggest title of the entire holiday period (so I think that next week's numbers will be way lower than this), could we estimate if it will be able to catch PS3 LTD within the end of the year?
If I have to bet, I'd say no.

Question, the 3DS is a mammoth, it has what can be the best games JP can give it; MH4 and DQ7, SMT4 can count too, what other games could it get? I think anything is realistic at this point.

Persona? (regardless of the E3 list already claiming so), FF7? We know it's sure to get DQ11.

What do you think?

Your forgetting the Christmas bump, which should be quite substantial considering the 3Ds is probably the only console worth buying in japan right now. Should be able to clear fairly easily.

I said goddamn at those Animal Crossing and 3DS numbers. Can anyone dig up the numbers for some other major releases like Monster Hunter, Mario Kart 7 and SM3DL to compare?

Here's some other major 3DS software launches

Animal Crossing: New Leaf # <SLG> (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} (¥4.800) - 603.064
Monster Hunter 3G # <ACT> (Capcom) {2011.12.10} (¥5.800) - 521.959
Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D # <RPG> (Square Enix) {2012.05.31} (¥5.490) - 513.183
Mario Kart 7 <RCE> (Nintendo) {2011.12.01} (¥4.800) - 423.619
New Super Mario Bros. 2 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2012.07.28} (¥4.800) - 407.503
Super Mario 3D Land <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.11.03} (¥4.800) - 343.492

Is possible to get a list of the highest YTDs of all time? Would be interesting to see how the 3DS stacks up so far.

I'm too lazy to look up older consoles, but you can see LTDs of PS2 and DS in the OP.

Next week will be pretty huge too a big second week for AC and the limited edition Mario 3ds, it'll catch ps3 bythe ssecond week of December (slight possibility of the first)

90% is a huge drop off. I wonder how many times there has been a drop that big without shortages?

Tales games tend to have a pretty sharp second week drop off, though the Xillia titles seem to have it worse than most.

Tales of Xillia - 47.297 / 572.902 (-91%)
Tales of Graces F - 39.640 / 254.828 (-82%)
Tales of Vesperia (PS3) - 48,642 / 265,000 (-78%)

You are right, I wasn't forgetting it but considering a smaller gap between 3DS and PS3 weekly based (the holiday bump will affect also PS3, I think, also if way less than 3DS, I bet).
3DS has to regain 500K over PS3 LTD to catch it: do you think that's doable within December 3qst 2012?

BTW, it's obviously just a "game": if it will not be able to surpass PS3's LTD numbers within end of December, it will probably be able to do this in few more weeks, and nothing changes in terms of 3DS success.

500,000 behind with 6 (or 7?) weeks to go? with the typical end of year Nintendo sales bump? i'd say it was a lock.
