Media Create Sales: Week 45, 2012 (Nov 05 - Nov 11)

You are right, I wasn't forgetting it but considering a smaller gap between 3DS and PS3 weekly based (the holiday bump will affect also PS3, I think, also if way less than 3DS, I bet).
3DS has to regain 500K over PS3 LTD to catch it: do you think that's doable within December 3qst 2012?

BTW, it's obviously just a "game": if it will not be able to surpass PS3's LTD numbers within end of December, it will probably be able to do this in few more weeks, and nothing changes in terms of 3DS success.

Seriously just look up last years December weeks

I would assume they meant Christmas in Europe/US where AC and CoD are sure to boost sales.

Well we have already saw AC release in the UK and it sold a grand total of 10K copies! Will have to wait and see how it goes in other markets but i get the feeling both COD and AC are just going to get buried by the home console versions getting released (and the complete lack of interest in the vita).

Tales games tend to have a pretty sharp second week drop off, though the Xillia titles seem to have it worse than most.

Tales of Xillia - 47.297 / 572.902 (-91%)
Tales of Graces F - 39.640 / 254.828 (-82%)
Tales of Vesperia (PS3) - 48,642 / 265,000 (-78%)

Wow so the first Xillia actually had a bigger drop. Still a 90% drop can't be too common.

I wonder if the new Vita colors will give it a boost next week.

yes, they will.
I don't know how big, but there will be a bump.

500,000 behind with 6 (or 7?) weeks to go? with the typical end of year Nintendo sales bump? i'd say it was a lock.

You ar probably right. Let's wait and see!

But wasn't Gaf sure that 2011 December 3DS numbers were "special", with 2012 December less strong?

Hokuto Mosou 2 too, right? The first one did very well.

3ds could do half the numbers this December than last and it would still beat ps3 Ltd

those animal crossing figures don't include the download cards, correct? are those cheaper than just buying the game? i should hope so, though you never know with nintendo.

Question, the 3DS is a mammoth, it has what can be the best games JP can give it; MH4 and DQ7, SMT4 can count too, what other games could it get? I think anything is realistic at this point.

Persona? (regardless of the E3 list already claiming so), FF7? We know it's sure to get DQ11.

What do you think?

Its essentially a PS2 situation, where the clearcut winner takes all.

Dat Animal Crossing sales/3DS effect. In line with what Iwata said earlier in the week.

Looks like Xillia 2 won't have better legs than even Xillia :\ so it'll probably end up significantly lower, but still good, I guess.

At least next week should be better for Vita.

Sony should just abandon Vita in Japan altogether and put that money towards NA and Europe where 3DS isn't selling nearly as well so they could have a chance to at least be competitive. I saw a lot of commercials for Vita during this past Monday's WWE Raw, so they're at least trying.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

What we have:

MC: 602
Famitsu: 721
Iwata: 800 (600 shipped + 200 downloaded)

We can assume that Nintendo shipped 600K physical copies to the store: sold out. Nintendo shipped also hundreds thousands DD Card to retailers, and was able to sell more or less 120K of those cards to consumers. MC doesn't track them, while Famitsu does. Almost 80k people downloaded the game directly from the eshop without the DD cards.

More or less.

Ironic that the west is seen as the savour of the Vita when the opposite was true of the psp.

I wonder if that is something 3rd party publishers are actually okay with. In light of strong competition from other mobile devices it seems smart to build one really strong ecosystem on just one dedicated portable game machine instead of supporting two.

Holiday bump for PS3 would be minimum comparing to 3DS.

Last year 3DS outsold PS3 by over 1 million units in Dec alone. (and about 300K in Nov) For 3DS to gain 500K over PS3 in the next 7 weeks is a given.

most handheld sw is produced in japan... do you really think japanese software houses will make games for a portable that doesn't even exist anymore in their country?

if sony will abandon japan will be because the killed the vita

The thing with the 3DS is that it's probably going to have a stronger line-up next year. Possibly a mainline pokemon, MH and DQ spin-off just to start. I don't think this train is stopping any time soon.

The vita isn't doing any better in the US or Europe really. Also with the attitude western 3rd parties have towards handhelds that would make things very difficult for the vita to get any support.

Well the point is the 3DS isn't selling nearly as well in those territories, meaning there could be some market share to gain.

3DS isn't selling as well as in Japan, compared to the market leader (360 in the US, PS3 in EU) but it's very near to them (especially after the launch of the XLL version: it was second in the last NPD numbers not so far away from the Xbox, and the best selling console in Europe in August-September), but in terms of direct competition with Vita honestly it's not that Vita's situation is healthier for Sony's portable device.

Btw, I agree that Vita could gain some small market share over the 3DS in the West. But we are slighlty OT, so I'll drop the discussion

:)

Vita already had its first Xmas in Japan last year, we knew it was pretty dead after it

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=495363 :p

Sony's PR teams are living in La La land at this point. It's fine that the higher ups want to stay optimistic about the success of the Vita, but optimism means nothing when they aren't making any aggressive attempts to appeal more to the Japanese consumers.

The 8 year old PSP has sold three times more units than the Vita this week. Nobody in Japan cares about blingy high tech hardware if there's nothing in the software library that makes it worth owning.

Nintendo went into panic mode before the release of Vita and all their attempts to circumvent Vita sales have paid of in dividends.

Well the point is the 3DS isn't selling nearly as well in those territories, meaning there could be some market share to gain.

That's assuming that the 3DS is the reason for the vita selling badly. If anything smartphones and tablets are what is killing the vita. The lack of marketing, quality software and the high price aren't helping either.

Basically:

2011: Kart, Land and MH3G
2012: New Mario, AC, DQM, PokeRanger
2013: MH4, DQ7 + Tomodatchi (already announced but without a date, right?) and possibly Pokemon main?

It's a shame we'll never know if 3DS would have reached these heights without the price drop. These kinds of numbers for AC suggest it would've. And it also cements that Monster Hunter was really just icing on the cake, all these Nintendo games were gonna carry the system regardless.

Personally i consider pokemon and MH to be far bigger system sellers than all those games. It's just insane to think they could both release the same year for one platform (if pokemon comes out next year which there is a decent chance it won't).

I think we will see many more big games announced for next year though.

Um. Isn't that Best Price MH3... not actually doing very well? I thought the cheaper rereleases usually shot up the charts with the PSP titles?

In cheerier news: Has there been a more successful new Square IP since Kingdom Hearts?
