Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Am I the only one here who doesn't want a Halo 2: Anniversary? I'm all for a nostalgic map pack though.

I too would be against it. I think the resources would be better spent in furthering the series rather than providing nostalgia. The first game of a series is a novelty, but the second... not really. From a marketing standpoint it makes sense to do it, but from a franchise standpoint, the resources could be better utilized elsewhere.

Let the install base build? How about releasing a killer game that forces people to buy the system?

Microsoft had the luxury of waiting to release Halo 3 in 2007, because Sony launched the PS3 a year later than the 360 and sold it for an outrageous amount. They likely won't have that luxury this time around.

And let's be honest, the gaming world has changed. Outside of sports titles, how many serialized, annual games did you see back in the mid 2000s? These days we have Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and likely Halo, to name a few.

A lot of sports titles where seeing annual releases Back then, FIFA and pro in the uk and I know the American sport titles where doing the same.

I really hope halo 5 gets a 3 year Dev cycle at least. I hope they spend time assessing the state of what works and what didn't work and start from scratch on some of the things that didn't work rather than just rush out another similar game to hit a 2 year cycle.

I'm still hoping they release halo 2 anniversary complete with multiplayer in the interim lol

I also want them to spend time retooling the engine to favour gameplay over graphics - but that would take significantly longer than a 2 year cycle would allow for.

Light Rifle > DMR>BR that is all.

I tried the LR for several days... after a while I noticed that my skillset just didn't really lend to the LRs style so I switched back to DMR and I'm happy with it. :)

Also just unlocked Stealth last night and did some testing with it. It renders PV practically useless. lol... I am using this and mobility right now and it is amazing. Crouched + Stealth means that even users with PV will not know you are chilling around the corner next to your teammate and many people walk into a 2v1 because of it. :)

Also faster assassinations has allowed me to come out with double kills thanks to the split second faster assassinations. :) The silent sprinting is nice, but it seems a bit situational to running up behind someone in scope or not looking at their radar without awareness.

And the new final level of Halo 2 would be what? Master Chief killing shit aboard the Dreadnought on the way to earth?

I'm torn on it. Would it be nice? Yes. But it'd almost feel that after all the shit Bungie and it's employees went through with that game, the way they feel about Halo 2... it'd feel like it would almost be re-opening old wounds and insulting to the sacrifices made to re-release an unfinished game with a new coat of paint. "Remember this game you had to lop the entire third act off of? Well, here it is again!".

I admit that I'm the only one that thinks this way.

If Halo 2 is remade, I'd want to see an actual remake. Keep the good parts, rework the parts that fell through or were a result of having to ship, and reinstate a couple of the levels that they wanted to do. Interview the Bungie employees that worked on the game and pay tribute to the intended vision. It's the one Halo game out there that they can add a new final level to and still be 100% fine in the canon.

Hmm good points. That could be pretty cool.

Light Rifle is especially devastating in team shot. You get worked so fast when two people are shooting you and one has a scoped light rifle

Forerunner Ship, so yeah. They actually talked about it a bit, it was cut because they literally just ran out of time to set up the encounters. The level itself was apparently done geometry-wise. It was supposed to contain the 'hog run' of the game, driving a Hog through mancannons on the ship were mentioned.

Of course, the rest of Halo 2 after that point was integrated into Halo 3, so just a single level.

I'm also against it. What made Halo 2 immortal was the multiplayer. While the campaign was still great (although it's not nearly my favorite), not that many people are clamoring for a remaster of the campaign (not saying there aren't people who are, they're just the majority).

If 343i does decide to pull the trigger on Halo 2 Anniversay, I'd imagine it'd be similar to what 343i did with Halo: CEA, and it would be incorporated into Halo 4 to avoid splitting the player base into multiple games. Many of Halo 2's maps have been remade in later Halo's as well, so that slightly brings down the quality of a remake.

If anything, I'd like to see a remaster of only the multiplayer and have it released as an Xbox Live Arcade title. While this is completely unlikely to happen, it'd be totally sweet.

Yeah a Halo game is never being released into the XBLA ghetto. They will always be retail titles. And the majority of H2A purchasers would be campaign players, just like the original Halo 2. :x

I think this is a great idea. I would love to see an H2A only if this is how they went about it. I don't believe simply applying new visuals to the game would suffice in this (or possibly next) generation.

Ok. Few questions:
Do you play reach?
Where did you pre order halo 4?
Which iteration of cortana is the best?
Halo wars- canon or cannon fodder
ODST -better than all the rest?

This is hilarious, on the first phase of Dominion, let the enemy team reclaim the base at 50% or more, kill them and reclaim the base, their reclaim time adds to your reclaim time and instant win the match. and in BTB why the hell the enemy team gets binaries rifles and rocket launchers and my teams gets needlers and grenades?

I've been trying to think of unique video ideas to make for Halo 4 (like my Weekly Montages) but I don't know what I wanna do. I have some ideas, montage and non montage but I wanna do something really cool. If anyone has some cool ideas, shout them out at me.

Would love for 343 to make a mainline Halo game, spinoff, then again mainline and then spinoff again.
May as well just keep going with Spartan Ops (but make it more fun for solo players PLEASE).

Edit : Yeah, good games, Satchel. You held your own well. It was a rough night for me, too. I barely won a game last night.

I like the one in blue!
Canned.
When played while listening to eye of the tiger and karate kid theme song, yes.

After I left you mean? Because when it was the 3 of us (Roche?) I don't think we lost one.

Playing with you guys made me better though, I came back on again and joined an in progress match with a friend of mine in big team, and despite starting from behind, I almost literally single handedly won us the match. We pulled in front with a few minutes to go, and ended up losing by 2 kills. I had 23 for the match which was the highest from both sides, but the next highest on my team was like 12 or something. Couldn't quite make it.

Need to play with you guys more and get better.

You don't get how money works in the industry.

Software is where the money is. They actually LOSE money on hardware. The point of hardware is to increase the install base for software. They would make MORE money hyping a Halo during console launch then launching a halo with the console.

No, I totally understand that. What you fail to understand is that one of the main reasons people pick one platform over the other is exclusive titles. That's why Halo remains exclusive to Microsoft's platforms, they can use it to sell hardware, which then sells more money-making software. For sales of Halo 5 on its own, or whatever prior or future iteration of the franchise, they'd be much better served releasing it to every platform possible to maximize sales, but they don't do that because there is serious value in keeping it exclusive to their platform. Do you think the Xbox itself and Xbox Live would have been successful if not for Halo 1 and Halo 2? I don't.

No, you don't.
Huh, weird. Welp, back to me thinking the lobby UI is poorly done.

How much time do you want to spend on it? I really enjoyed those Halo 3 vids that were just 3rd person action with an epic soundtrack behind it. Well directed stuff always engages me more than just watching clips of multikills being stitched together.

You could do a Spartan Ops run through or a montage with sweet non-multikill things.

Also: are there any HaloGAFfers going to be in North Carolina next week?

Make them fun, think Reid18/Kampy. Ultra serious MLG stuff gets boring after the first few times.

So has the halo waypoint app been Abandonded? Will it ever update to support Halo 4. Would be nice.

if only there was a way the community could make their own apps so 343 didn't have to spend money continually updating their own from requests

say, with an application programming interface related to stats

What? Why would you leave something like that to the community? It makes for a far less involved application. Waypoint had awesome reach integration, I'd love to see that on Halo 4.
