Holy crap at Wii U Game Update size.

When I first updated each game, I assumed that Nintendo's server are just slow at uploading and that the Wii U was just slow at installing. Turns out the files was just big. I was just browsing through the System memory and found out that the Update Data for each game is kinda large.

Update data size for each game:
Nintendoland 221MB
ZombiU 18MB
NSMBU 29MB

XBOX360 title updates are a few MB in sizes, while PS3 game updates are usually under 10MB right?

edit: The video streaming apps are also fairly large, they are between 35-45MB each.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified (Vita) had a 396 MB patch. Probably the biggest I can think of right now. To be fair, it added ad-hoc multiplayer and probably changed a bunch of netcode.

I've had updates like that on my PS3. Nothing new. Only problem is the Wii U servers are slow as ass.

PS3 updates are regularly around 20-30 MB, which is acceptable, but since there are no limits, the may sometimes be several hundred MBs, which is pretty much unacceptable. Thankfully, this is fixed on Vita.

I remember coordinating some friends for some multiplayer UC2 and waiting 30 minutes for my PS3 to update, then launching Uncharted 2 and having to wait another 30 minutes for the game to update.

No OP, as it has been said PS3 title updates can be quite enormous, sometimes even a couple of gigs like Grand Turismo V. I remember that the KOF XII patch downloaded the whole game again, which was like about 600 MB or so.

Can't wait to get a WiiU. I look forward to spending 8 hours updating before I get to enjoy anything WIiU related.

These are "holy crap" file sizes for people in 2012? Seriously? Where in the world is dial up still used?

It seems weird how Nintendo have always seemed against patching and 'the box we ship is the game' kind of thing, and then day one WiiU there are patches for both of their games.

It's hard to judge as we don't know what the patches were for. I wonder if they're fixes based on the Day 1 system patch changes or actual issues with the games themselves.

I forgotten about GT5, but I haven't encountered many PS3 games that required large patches though. I am so used to small title update on the xbox.

I've had multiple PS3 game updates over 1.5 Gb. Payday had one that was 3.5 Gb. More often than not, they're huge.

Once you go past 20 MB, you're typically altering content and not code
